I've spent the last few evenings binge watching P&P and then S&S. I'm still in the mood for more.

I recently rewatched Brideshead revisited so that's out. Not keen on upstairs downstairs or Downton. What else is there?

Aintnobodygottime · 11/01/2025 17:52

I loved at the time the 1980s Mansfield Park with Sylvestra Le Touzel as Fanny. I watched it again years later and imo it stands up - still looks fresh to me and incredibly well cast.

ElizabethVonArnim · 11/01/2025 18:10

North and South with Richard Armitage - brilliant.
90s Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root
90s Middlemarch with Juliet Aubrey

WashableVelvet · 11/01/2025 18:11

What channel(s) are all of these on - any on iPlayer?

soupsong · 11/01/2025 18:19

Ooh yes Vanity Fair! Which channel?

Dolamroth · 11/01/2025 18:31

Middlemarch is good, gorgeous, young Rufus Sewell-on iplayer now.
Persuasion from 1995 is sublime and is on YouTube.
North and South
Poldark (Aidan Turner) much more faithful to the novels than the previous version on iplayer.

Overtheatlantic · 11/01/2025 18:33

Valmont with Colin Firth

moonlight1705 · 11/01/2025 18:36

Wives and Daughters with Keeley Hawes is great too.

Aintnobodygottime · 11/01/2025 19:51

98 Vanity Fair is on BritBox/ITV. Probably worth a look through there as they’ve got so much back catalogue stuff.

PermanentTemporary · 11/01/2025 21:21

The 1983 Mansfield Park is on YouTube in tem minute chunks. Tbh I bought the dvd off Ebay.

FSGirl · 11/01/2025 21:23

BBC adaptation of War & Peace from a few years back? Watched it recently in bed while I had a virus and forgot how great it was and so many fantastic actors!

fairytailcat · 11/01/2025 21:29

Forsyte saga?

MissMarplesNiece · 11/01/2025 21:43

For something a bit different to the suggestions made so far, I enjoyed A Suitable Boy, an adaptation of the Vikram Seth novel. It's on BBC iplayer.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 11/01/2025 21:47

Againstreason · 11/01/2025 21:58

ITV did several TV adaptations - I liked Northanger Abbey
Persuasion (except the dreadful modern one)- Amanda Roots is the definitive one,but the ITV adaptation ⬆️ is a good watch.
Emma
Wuthering heights - None are perfect, but there is a Ralph Fiennes version. I liked the recent film 'Emily'.
Jane Eyre BBC mini series
Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Wives and Daughters
North and South
Far from the Madding Crowd
B&W Rebecca

Lots of suggestions.. in watching middlemarch right. Now and remembering why I am not so keen on this book. I could not find Vanity fair without having to pay.
