Me too!

Therealmetherealme · 01/01/2025 17:29

Currently watching it, final series I think. Only 2, 2 hour long episodes. Do we think there will be a spin off?

DustyLee123 · 01/01/2025 17:33

I liked Aiden in it, and Kenny, so would love a spin off.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 01/01/2025 18:58

I'm looking forward to this too, agree a spin-off would be great!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/01/2025 20:35

Watching now. I will miss Vera. Sad

Cocolapew · 01/01/2025 22:34

Poor Kenny, thought he was a goner.

LegoTherapy · 01/01/2025 22:36

So many characters and confusion not helped by watching with 16 yo Dd. She called it though. She often does 🙄 Where's Aidan? I enjoyed it. Always good to see Vera. I enjoy things at face value and don't look too deep or pick holes.

Bit complicated but enjoyed it.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 02/01/2025 12:05

I loved it and it even featured one of my favourite songs, the magpie one!

So did I 😀

Aiden was written out 3 episodes ago when Joe came back , they said he moved to Australia . I much prefer Aiden to Joe . I reckon a spin off would work , like they did with Taggart or indeed Lewis .

Ficklemind · 02/01/2025 15:46

Nearly in tears thinking Kenny had gone while the Magpie song was playing!
Really enjoyed it.
Come on Joe, get some therapy.

RightOnTheEdge · 02/01/2025 21:02

I found last night's hard to get into, I think I was too tired.
I miss Aiden, Joe has always been a bit grumpy and serious.

I am surprised that tonight's is the newest book. It was only out in August. I hope Anne Cleeves writes more books.

LegoTherapy · 02/01/2025 21:24

The grandparents's cottage-what's it been in before?

OP posts:
Cocolapew · 02/01/2025 22:02

At least they didn't kill anyone off. I'll miss Vera☹️

LegoTherapy · 02/01/2025 22:10

I'm sure that cottage appeared in an earlier episode or another show. It's so familiar.

I love Vera so much and feel sad but pps might be right about a spin off. The door has certainly been left open for that.

I liked that she just went with no great drama.

Never had her down as a dog person!

Cocolapew · 02/01/2025 22:11

Has Joe always been an insufferable moan? I'm sure I liked him in it before.

Clawdy · 02/01/2025 22:43

I knew she would end up with that dog!
And yes, I liked that low-key but happy ending.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/01/2025 12:54

Aww, that was a nice ending. Just slipped away without any fuss.

Going to miss Vera. Bloody love her. 🥲

DontStopMe · 03/01/2025 15:41

I'd love to see a spin off or two: Vera brought back in as a consultant, or a young Vera as WPC Stanhope. But as I understand it, it was Brenda Blethyn who didn't want to do any more. And it was Brenda Blethyn who had a very strong influence on the series: if she could guess who did it from too early in the script, it went back for a re-write.

IwantToRetire · 03/01/2025 16:52

I think this last episode was filmed very differently from previous ones. Maybe to create the atmosphere for the moment when it became clear she was leaving. Although it was obvious she wouldn't take a promotion.

Who was the actress playing her boss. I just cant remember her name.

I thought it was a nice touch having Kevin Whately turn up as an unprincipled police man in contrast to Lewis.

Not sure as a crime plot line it worked that well, but as others have said far too many characters!

I think early Joe was more respectful and understanding of Vera, but when he re-appeared he just seemed to be rude and sullen all the time. Not sure if that wasn't done more for Vera to pull off yet another clever intervention and get him back on the straight and narrow or ... !

I think overall the series has survived well for however many years it is.

And glad Brenda Blethyn got to decide how and when it would stop.

When I get to her age if I can still haul myself in and out of the landrover or whatever it is, I will be thrilled.

Did Anne Cleves write the book in anticipation of it being the end of the tv series?

I thought I would be really cheesy and watch the documentary to night about Vera. I expect it will be rubbish, but might be a nice escape down memory lane.

TheHillsIsLonely · 03/01/2025 18:55

I'm surprised this thread isn't busier.

I've really enjoyed Vera over the years - like an old friend - and I'll miss it. I understand though why it was time for Brenda to hang up the mac, hat and Land Rover keys.

I like the idea of Vera enjoying her well-earned retirement under those big Northumberland skies with all the wildlife and that characterful hound for company.

Thanks to Brenda, Ann and all the Vera team.

Rictasmorticia · 03/01/2025 18:56

The woman plating her boss used to be in Coronation street or Eastenders . She starred beside Dev

Shobna Gulati - dinnerladies, Coronation Street.
