I'm not saying I'm keen but I could see a thread for this year so thought I'd get one started.

Anyone watch the Xmas special? I found it too hard to guess who was under the mask just based on one or two songs...

Had never actually watched an episode before this thread. My God that was the cringiest thing I've watched in a while...it's like they're talking to 6 year olds?! Is it aimed more at children?

Edited

It's very very silly and cheesy and frankly ridiculous but that's part of the appeal.

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 04/01/2025 21:34

Just catching up. Had on pause.
100% kingfisher is Grayson Perry! I would recognise that voice anywhere!

I'm a huge fan!

youngestisapsycho · 04/01/2025 21:38

I record and fast forward thru most of it 😆

Dressed crab, only from the Rivals clue, David tenant?

He's on it every year like Shane and Sheridan.

You're not really getting into the spirit of it.

Who is forcing you to watch it?

JewelleryCat · 04/01/2025 22:03

Then I’m a child because I like Masked Singer. It’s a bit of silly escapism on a Saturday night and everyone who likes watching it likes sharing who might be under the mask. I also like Gladiators

Dd shouted Simon Farnaby as soon as kingfisher started singing

My DDs both said his name too as soon as he started singing.
Given they're 19 & 24 and had him as the sound track to their early years I'm inclined to go with that!!

No I'm not am I? 🤣 sorry, I just couldn't figure it out..it was...weird..

My kids aren’t interested as they never know who the celebrities are even after they get revealed. My youngest used to enjoy shouting “take it off” but it was such an anti climax when some 50 something bloke she didn’t recognise was stood there grinning.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 04/01/2025 22:50

I was so annoyed by the non reveal! So annoyed. I also somehow managed to block out that Giant Joel sang in the Christmas special. I loved that though, Joel's face was just brilliant every time he looked at himself.

Simon Farnaby was my guess for Kingfisher, but Harry Hill is probably more likely and the voice is similar. I think Paul Whitehouse/Bob Mortimer is too obvious with the fishing clues and we know the clues are never obvious. I heard Jonathan say that Paul sings too well to be him in the background at one point.

No idea for anyone else.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 04/01/2025 22:51

I could also have sworn that Harry Hill had already been on. I can almost picture him taking his mask off. Weird.

Twonewcats · 05/01/2025 01:29

Rainbow Connection was v emotional for me. One of my best friends was a huge Kermit fan, and passed away last year 😭

I find this programme so fascinating. I thought of Whitehouse and Mortimer when the clues were on, but didn't think it sounded like either of them, yet other posters are saying it sounds exactly like them - it's bizarre how we all hear different things.

Twonewcats · 05/01/2025 01:31

Also, I say this every year - the clues are designed brilliantly, as they almost always match multiple people.

You say brilliant, I say completely pointless for pretty much the same reason.

TerryWogansWig · 05/01/2025 07:25

The tagline literally is "Bring on the Bonkers".

OneBadKitty · 05/01/2025 09:07

I love the masked singer- it's so unapologetically daft and I like how nothing is taken seriously!

Auburngal · 05/01/2025 09:22

TMS starts with a double helping on first week. Then the 5 from each week have a themed week. Then the remaining 8 compete against each other from then on.

wriggleigglepiggle · 05/01/2025 09:24

The whole point is that it's completely daft and bonkers !!!

That’s fair enough Notime.

I think we can all agree that it’s absolute nonsense. 😄

I like it because it’s bonkers, entertaining nonsense that cheers up my Saturday evenings post Christmas after Strictly has finished.

But I can understand other people wanting to watch something less daft! 😅

I wish they’d bring the masked dancer back, I loved that.

ThePoshUns · 05/01/2025 09:46

I love it as it's so silly.
This, SCD and the Traitors get me through the winter.
I'm always bereft when Strictly finishes so TMS really gives me something to look forward to.

It's good for kids up until the actual reveal, when they are inevitably someone kids have never heard of. My dd is perpetually disappointed when they turn out to be some old snooker player or Lulu.

Yeah, we loved The Masked Dancer in our house too.
