More utterly stunning scenery. We now know who Mel’s dad is. Anyone else watching?

Yes, love this show & don't care how cheesy it is!
Have watched the first couple of this series. They are doing a back story of Mel's mum and her bio dad. I am a bit confused by the time line though. Is Joey older or younger than Mel? Did Mel's mum have an affair? Do we know that? Can't remember last series well enough

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/12/2024 18:27

Also love it. Yes Mel’s sister is older and their mum had an affair.

Haggia · 21/12/2024 23:28

Just watched the last episode but no spoilers from me.

General observation - I never feel the actors playing Mel and Jack have good chemistry, so their kissing scenes are always a bit cringe for me. Is that just me?

I think Martin Henderson is a great actor though, he was so good in Everest too.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 21/12/2024 23:32

Ooh is it out now? I don't really know why I keep watching it, other than the incredible scenery. I do like MH even though this is not his finest hour, but the whole thing is just oddly compelling (or I'm suffering sunk cost fallacy).

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 22/12/2024 07:02

I got half way through episode 2 yesterday before taking DS to work, unexpectedly popping into see my sister, getting a bit pissed on Prosecco and eating my body weight in party food! I’ll watch more today.

I don’t think it’s as good as it was. I’m mildly irritated by the them talking everything through calmly. 🤣

Colourfulduvets · 22/12/2024 07:33

When you realise that most of the previous series took place within the space of Charmaine's pregnancy (i.e. nine months) is a bit of a head f"*k but I still find it oddly compelling too.
I absolutely can't stand Hope. I don't know if actress is over acting or Hope is meant to be that irritating but she almost sets my teeth on edge.
Also don't like the younger pregnant girl or Doc's grandson. And Doc can be pretty sanctimonious too!
Mel & Jack are very cringe & think long term irl they would split up...😂

RedRiverShore5 · 22/12/2024 08:34

I have finished it, thought it was good but had to rush through it as Christmas is coming and I don't feel I can inflict it on visiting DS, DH yawned as I was watching it as he thinks it is so bad. Looking forward to next series.

Colourfulduvets · 22/12/2024 09:48

One question I have - I remember Joey's marriage ending but she turned up in the Christmas episode with her kids and a man.

Did they reconcile or is the man another man who just looks like the first one?

AlexCabot · 22/12/2024 11:49

So, lizzie will have her baby during what, season 10? Or 11?!

AlexCabot · 22/12/2024 13:24

Ok, I've watched episode one and have a question. Where is the dog? Jack bought Mel a puppy at Christmas (tut tut Jack) but there's no sign of it.

It does make an appearance in the second episode

😂 They do love to string it out!

witchycat2 · 22/12/2024 16:32

I can't believe this show is still going considering there are (better) series that get cancelled.

I had the latest series on in the background as it's one of those programmes you don't need to concentrate too hard. Stunning scenery though.

Lovewine1975 · 23/12/2024 10:20

I love this but it is so cheesy and I couldn't live in Virgin River with everyone knowing each others business, have to say Brady is looking mighty fine this season in his fireman's uniform😀

InkHeart2024 · 23/12/2024 10:25

I quit watching it when Mel lost her baby. I thought it was a horrible storyline and really unnecessary and I just lost any investment in it after that. I was also annoyed when the woman who killed her husband left preacher and left virgin river uprooting her poor traumatised kid and leaving her whole support network because she was too triggered being there or whatever the reason was. I think the whole show got more annoying than entertaining for me!

blackheartsgirl · 24/12/2024 04:53

I’ve watched all ten now and it’s really not as good as it was. Jack and Mel are even cringier than normal, the wedding is played out over ten episodes, and I was so over it by episode ten.

Mel really irritated me this season,

Do none of the characters have emotional blazing rows? Everyone is so calm and sweet.

having said that I still binge watched it 😂 the scenery is stunning

Mel & Jack are incredibly irritating and sickly!
If you look at the timeline they've only known each other just over a year!
And as for Preacher & Kaia, that's just plain daft! He was obsessed with Paige, then the karate woman & now seems to live with her.

And the story about Mel's mum & Everett is a bit hard to swallow - he never moved on?? He still loves her after all this time?? And they had an affair which Mel doesn't seem bothered about. It's all so ridiculous.

But I keep on watching! 😂

RedRiverShore5 · 24/12/2024 07:09

I love it, DH recognised it as soon as it come on and starting faux yawning and said does anything ever happen in this.

MrsWhites · 24/12/2024 07:14

I’ve finished it now, I thought the sex scenes were a bit cringe this season and don’t get me started on the scene when Mel got back from her hen party!

At this point I’m more invested in Bree she and Brady!

blackheartsgirl · 24/12/2024 12:22

Don’t get me started on her dad having a heart attack on the morning of the wedding, has a stent fitted, then gets let out to perform a song at her wedding that same evening 🤣

I had to skip past the sex scenes tbh, not because I’m a prude but it’s because they seem to be shagging each other every five seconds and I got bored 😂

I am curious about the very ending though with Jack. I reckon the producers knew they had to end on a cliffhanger because of how predictable and boring the entire series was and they need people to come back for season 6.

i did enjoy it, it’s easy watching, I got loads of crochet done at the same time though. It’s just you definitely have suspend belief this time!

Baconking · 30/12/2024 16:03

I bloody hate this programme and yet still keep watching it.
I have never known a show with such boring characters. Not one has a personality and really nothing happens.
I watch it, complaining all the way through 😂

cheapskatemum · 30/12/2024 20:40

I just so happened to be in USA in the summer of 1972, which I reckon is around the time Mel's Mum & Dad met. Every young man had long hair. Everett would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Also there would have been smiley faces everywhere, but particularly on the peace protestors' T shirts.

EasterIssland · 31/12/2024 22:28

I wanna know more about bree and Brady story as well and less about annoying hope 😂

doneandone · 01/01/2025 22:53

Cannot stand Hope! She's just deeply unpleasant, no redeeming features at all. Found this season more cringy and agree that there is no on screen chemistry between Jack and Mel
