A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

In the meantime I Picked Up a Celebrity on the Street is providing a surprisingly funny if all sorts of wrong stop gap.

Having finished A Shop for Killers (really good, Lee Dong-wook at his finest) we've started the second season of Missing: the other side that has finally shown up on Netflix, which we're enjoying so far.

Meanwhile I've continued to fall down the rabbit hole of figure skating on Youtube and have discovered, not to be outdone by the Japanese, South Korea has their own world class skater and he's an absolute cutie. Here he is coming 2nd in the world championships in 2023:

I'm also enjoying it, after a dodgy start.

I'm watching Where the Stars Land (picked from the starred shows on the list at the top of the thread) and it's good but I have one issue: I can believe the space sex in WtSG, I can believe the surprisingly bulletproof ambulance in South Sudan in Trauma Code, I can even believe that those people in Motel California really liked the Sriracha but what I'm having trouble with is the notion that anyone would choose Lee Je Hoon when Rowoon was right there for the taking ...

Um, 3.5 episodes under my belt already. I’m going to say YES.

Episode 5… I’m liking Kim Jae Wook with a few strands of grey in his shoulder length hair. I can’t work out if they’re fake for this show or he’s letting his own grey show. Either way, it’s great to have him back on our screens.

Sidebar: I’m trying to spot someone, anyone, in Melo Movie who hasn’t had a lip lift. 🤔 Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. 😭

I'm an episode in to Melo Movie and loving it already - twists and turns abound!

Well, MrPunks and I have watched two episodes of When the Stars Gossip and so far we're really enjoying it. We love a bit of dark humour and bat-shittery (the mouse CPR was a particular highlight) so it's our sort of thing so far. 🤞 that it keeps ticking our boxes.

2ML in Melo Movie is boiling my piss. What a big whiny baby.

Watched first episode of Melo Movie this morning and liking it so far.

I actually found last night's WTSG a bit emotional. 🥲

Looking forward to Melo Movie but in meantime binged through Taiwanese I am Married...But with excellent big nosed Alice Ko and gorgeous dimpled Jasper Liu and it was just brilliant.
May even score it a 10 which I basically never do. So funny and warm and truthful.

The actress Kim Sae Ron has passed away at the age of 24yrs old. Bloodhounds and The Man from Nowhere are some of the films she starred in. So, so sad. May she rest in peace.

I’m watching ep 9 & I agree. He’s really irritating. I also think Choi Woo Shik’s character could have gone the same way, except extreme childishness. Luckily episode 2 saved him.

I need to get started on Melo Movie. I watched Love Rest last night and had some genuine LOL moments. Finished up Love Scout and am dipping in and out of Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung and think I will need to watch in on FF. Such a shame about Kim Sae Ron, I recall the incident when it all played out, it was very harsh.

I finished Melo Movie earlier. It wasn’t groundbreaking but I really enjoyed it. I need to sleep on it to decide whether it’s an 8 or 9.

Ep 14 of WtSG is bonkers for conkers again. I’m pausing about 60% through to ponder why the chairman can’t spend some of his billions on a suit that fits. His buttoned double-breasted jacket is straining across his belly & I’m waiting to see if the buttons pop. 🙈

I’ve started this and it’s making me laugh loads.

We've (finally) finished watching Be Melodramatic - what a gem of a show. Husband just said it was not just the best kdrama he's watched, but one of the best shows ever. Laughed, cried, love them all.

Wasn't it wonderful? I feel like it's not talked about much. So, so funny in places.
