A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I'm fairly recent to K-drama too but now an addict. It started with Crash Landing On You, then Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Hometown Cha Cha Cha and still discovering the rest. I also loved Physical 100.....

Lovely Runner is just brilliant, I think I may need to rewatch it. It's on Viki. I started Nevertheless this week and gave up partway through episode 2. It was too slow and just didn't grab me. Not sure what to watch instead. Watching Shogun with DH and just finished Alchemy of Souls last week, so I don't want another action one

peanutcookie I'm currently binge-watching Namib.I started it on a whim, not expecting much, but by the end of the 2nd ep I was totally hooked. It's not a romance but it's also not slow and it's not action, so it might suit you.

Funny, I just started this as a random Viki pick while I wait for weekend episodes to drop and I'm enjoying it too.

Although I'm finding FL's dodgy lip filler very distracting

Is it very violent?

It's an 18 MrsF so there are some violent themes, but it is very satisfying when the "revenge" is happening.

We finished Namib which we enjoyed, and we’ve watched one episode of Atypical Family which is ….well, interesting.
Has anyone else seen it?

@Andante57 I really enjoyed Atypical Family!! It is definitely a little odd / different but all the characters really grow on you. And the way they play with time etc is really cool.

I liked Atypical Family. The daughter is a fabulous actress.

MrPunks and I both liked Atypical Family (watched it at different times) and, as @mrsfeatherbottom says, the daughter is brilliant.

I'm off work with Norovirus 🤢 so have started the nuttiness that is The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. I'm only on the first episode and there is already waaaay too much testosterone in that operating theatre! 😄

Still watching Namib but as well as the FL plastic surgery, also finding her clothes distracting - I guess they are trying to look edgy because she works in the music industry but she looks like she got dressed in the dark.

Dear me. The PPL in Motel California today is so flagrant. I shouldn’t be surprised but the yoghurt scene was awful.

I'm thinking about dropping MC as it's decidedly meh, especially when I'm finding the donkey more interesting than the characters. Also the yoghurt ppl has a serious rival in the "so tight!" face cream, serum and gadget use. BTW, what happened to the rest of the strawberry after only two thin slices were used for the yoghurt?

I endured Namib to the end, but found it mediocre (not helped by FL's distracting over use of lip filler).

I also dropped When the Stars Gossip and Unmasked (Disney+) and now starting to be concerned at the imbalance of quantity over quality. 😐

I should also add that I've lost interest in both Singles Inferno 4 and Rented in Finland. Instead I watched a couple of movies on Netflix and found watching faces without jaw surgery, mouth surgery, botox and fillers, surprisingly refreshing.

I feel like Motel California has squandered it's interesting and slightly off beat start by basically having no good reason for the two leads not to be together from ... Halfway through episode one. Like... A good conversation could have solved this all weeks ago lads. I haven't watched the latest episode yet but I was growing frustrated with the false obstacles that kept getting in the couples way.

Migs I think enjoying Namib depends on whether you enjoy the music or not as there were several full numbers in the show. I liked it for an undemanding watch, it didn't require much attention.
Unlike Rented in Finland, which is frenetic with so much to read, it's starting to feel like work catching up with it so I'm also giving it a break. Therefore, tempted by reports of our boiled egg dancer upgrading from small town vet to junior doctor, I've also started Trauma Code. I think it's going to be another undemanding one...
