A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

Study Group, Viki, started today, but it's only one ep per week.😢Rated 18 and chock full of swearing, smoking teens and bullyinjg/physical abuse, but the fight scenes are 🙌and the main characters immediately engaging.

On an LG tv, I had to go through the faff of creating a PIN before I was allowed to watch it, but it was straight in on a laptop. Rated 9.82 so far, on Viki.

I find the Viki ratings a bit dubious. I suspect that only the seriously motivated bother to vote and inflate scores, whereas the people who find something meh ditch the show. However I am fully prepared to trust your endorsement. 😄

I'm thoroughly enjoying my daily dose of Flourished Peony , even the mild cliffhangers, and so much sparkiness between Li Xian and Yang Zi

For today's Draw January we are back to CEO's and office romance PLUS shared childhood trauma, mystery of chaebol's parents' death, liver transplants, evil ex-boyf etc etc you know the drill! I didn't read this one at first as I thought it might be grim with a revenge theme but the ML is actually very sweet with the FL and the revenge theme has a twist in the tale so it's not as heavy as it sounds.
Someone (you know who you are!) commented that I had been very restrained with the abs so here you go!

After a car crash means that crime boss Hajin dies but wakes up in the body of idol Sihyeon, he must navigate his new life within a pop group while honouring Sihyeon's last request to look after his sister, and work out just what dark happenings had occurred to make Sihyeon so unhappy with his life.
It's very slow, and there are some dark themes, but intriguing characters.

The Remarried Empress is a romantic fantasy about Empress Navier who is betrayed by her husband Emperor Sovieshu and enters a political marriage with King Heinrey. So there's a 'bad' oppa and a 'good' oppa today, but nothing is as clear cut as it seems as the story evolves (although Sovieshit is pretty unredeemable) I've mainly included it as it's a good read if you like rofan plus there are talks to make it into a drama (see last pic) - thanks for the info on that @FedUpWithBriiiiick

Hello everyone! I had a manic start to January due to work so didn't have the energy to read subtitles. DH and I watched some Harlan Coben thing on Netflix instead and I kept thinking how much better it would have been if made by Koreans. Nobody fell and was luckily caught by the ML for a start. Traitors also took a lot of our tv time. We watched 2 episodes of Bad and Crazy but DH thought it was too manic and insisted we stop. I might go back to it on my own. He then Googled legal kdramas (he is a sucker for them) and chose Law School. We have watched the first couple of episodes and it does require a lot of concentration.

On my own I have also started and stopped a few. Only watched half an episode of When the Stars Gossip, a CDrama I think the title is something about a snowstorm. I'm now 2/3 through Alchemy of Souls P1. Quite enjoying it so far though might take a break before heading to P2.

DD1 and I are off to Ateez tomorrow night. I'm just waiting for her to be free now so we can decorate our lightsticks
