A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

Lee Do Hyun is excellent in everything! The first pic with the man-bun and tattoos is from the film Exhuma which is fantastic.

I still haven't seen The Good Bad Mother, although I'll probably get around to it eventually as it seemed well liked.

Today's fun fact: the dog that they were walking in the last episode of WTPR when she was imagining them happy is actually YYS's real dog! She's a rescue called Rita.

I think I mentioned before that I’m watching Blood Free on Disney+ in between for a midweek JJH top-up. That's also batshit plot-wise, but shiny high concept tech-oriented batshit nonsense. JJH mostly in bodyguard-mode black suits, Navy uniform or fatigues and no hideous knitwear in sight. 🥳

I went to see Exhuma at the cinema with DS2, a late screening. It was sufficiently terrifying that we were huddled together by the finale. We both enjoyed it. Worth catching if you can.

DH and I started Signal tonight because we enjoyed Lee JeHoon in Chief Detective 1958. We had watched a few things in English recently and DH actually suggested that we watch a kdrama! He's fully converted. My work here is done.

We were at Christmas drinks this afternoon and he was telling friends that they should watch Culinary Class Wars too!!

Oh man - speaking of watching shows with my husband, we are 10 episodes into Be Melodramatic and good lord it is so good. I know it is highly rated around here. I watched the first episode ages ago and then stopped because I wanted to watch it together. Weirdly it was Chicken Nugget that convinced husband to give it a go 😅 and you can definitely see the same creator behind them both.
