I wonder if you could help me. We are doing a family quiz at Christmas this year and everyone has been given a round to take charge of. I've been allocated Film/TV. I have done an Only Connect style connecting wall containing 16 films (four groups of four connected films) and wanted some guinea pigs to test it on. Could you have a go at solving it and working out the connections and let me know if it's too hard/too easy? I'll reveal the answers in due course. Thank you!

quite challenging…

units of measurement? But then I can on,y find three with numbers in the title.

penguins?

jajhgyt · 02/12/2024 10:47

Is a group of 4 ABCD or 1234?

FlatShoesOnly · 02/12/2024 10:47

@imokithink I am enjoying your connecting wall! And relieved it’s not about Only Fans as I first thought.

I think there is a measurements one and a Tom Hanks one. I thought there was a numbers one but nine yards is used on measurements. How am I doing so far?

if there are connections like same directors rather than the words connecting with meanings or hidden things etc I’m probably out of ideas.

Chemenger · 02/12/2024 11:00

Trains? Matt Damon? Cowboys?

LondonSpaPool · 02/12/2024 11:00

Mainly just came on to say do you know puzzgrid? You can create your own walls, so a good way to implement it. I find it hard to reason on a wall when you can’t try the options out for yourself.

Can’t help much on content as not a big film person, would go through the numbers and measurements first and see what I was left with.

If you put it on puzzgrid and make it public, people can rate for difficulty, which would give you some idea. Not sure how used it is though…

Are the people you’re doing it for familiar with the format? If not you’ve got to go for super easy.

Units of measurement
Tom Hanks

Im usually okay at the wall but this one has me stumped, I think it confused me that they’re all films. I thought numbers were a theme but there’s not enough…. IMO it’s hard but films aren’t my favourite topic!

Great idea for a quiz though!

Edit- I should add I’ve only seen 2 of those films so have no idea what most are about, which skews my answer!

Trains, Matt Damon, Units of measurement, Cowboys

How did I do?

FuckItItsFine · 02/12/2024 11:06

Love it! I solved it. Thought it was good level. 😊

LardyCakeLover · 02/12/2024 11:07

Units of measure - feet, inch, yards, mile
Matt Damon films
Tom Hanks films?

Dazedandconfusedma · 02/12/2024 11:09

Measurements
matt damon
trains
cowboys?

love it!!

TeenToTwenties · 02/12/2024 11:10

That was fun, but I could only do 1 group as I hadn't even heard of some of the films.

Lincoln24 · 02/12/2024 11:11

I'd say it's on the harder side! Will you be in teams or are people solving as individuals? If the former I think it's fine, if the latter I'd probably make it a little easier unless everyone is a committed quizzer & film fan.

Great wall though!

Trains, Matt Damon, Units of measurement, Cowboys

How did I do?

I got this too. The cowboys stumped me. Matt Damon and units of measurement ok then once I'd figured out trains it resolved. That website for creating a connecting wall is ace. Can anyone do another?

Noodlesnotstrudels · 02/12/2024 11:12

I got Matt Damon films, cowboy films, and imperial measurements. Didn't figure out the trains link in time. But I liked it!

FlatShoesOnly · 02/12/2024 11:12

I think it’s good if they know films - I realised it was Matt Damon not Tom hanks but wasn’t sure of all his films. Not sure I would have got trains. But it works well as you have red herrings with numbers and Tom hanks and (in my case) thinking Matt Damon was in brokeback mountain!

EveryoneKnowsJuanita · 02/12/2024 11:13

I liked it (and love OC) I got the categories it not all the trains; the Tom Hanks red herring was good too 👍🏼

Gunnersforthecup · 02/12/2024 11:13

Mike yards feet inch?

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 02/12/2024 11:16

Matt Damon
Trains
Measurements
Cowboys

I thought it was too easy but that's because I religiously watch Only Connect and you instinctively pick up on certain things after watching so much. I'd add a word one such as where the measurements are inside a word in the title, like The Grinch would be inch.

I got it once it was on the wall, otherwise it was hard to keep track. On paper with a pencil it would be fine. I did have to google some films I hadn’t seen.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 02/12/2024 11:47

Oh I loved that! Thank you!

Liquorish · 02/12/2024 11:48

Good one. You got me with the Tom Hanks ones.

TeenToTwenties · 02/12/2024 11:51

That was fun. Easier than the films one, but I didn't get one of the connections.
