Has anyone watch the new series on Prime?

I’ve just binge watched it and loved it. I’m a big fan of the Alex Cross books and found the casting for this series perfect.

I watched Along Came a Spider and Kiss the girls long before I started reading the books. I enjoyed them and like Morgan Freeman as an actor but after reading the books couldn’t get past the fact he was nothing like the books character. The Tyler Perry movie was awful and terrible casting.

I also enjoyed the fact Alex’s family were far more inclusive in the series too, they were just how I imagined them.

Anyone else a fan of the books watched the new series?

I’ve got it on my ‘to watch’ list! I noticed that Ryan Eggold from New Amsterdam is in it! Loved him in that! I haven’t read any of the books though!

I binge watched it this week and was quite impressed. Took a little while for it to hook me but I thought it was well done.

tinytemper66 · 16/11/2024 17:16

I am on episode 3 and loving it.

Awrite · 16/11/2024 17:19

I read the books in the late 90's/early naughties.

Just started the series. Agree that the casting is great. Enjoyed episode 1 and looking forward to continuing.

I am up to 4 and enjoy it

But it's annoyingly dark on prime. Criminal minds is the same. Nothing makes it brighter. Quite a lot of cast members fade into the background In scenes. A bad visual choice.

AliceMcK · 16/11/2024 21:47

I really like the fact it’s not based on one of the books so I’m not comparing them.

I've watched 3 episodes and struggling, is it worth sticking with? I loved all of the books. I feel it's a bit slow and I'm the opposite @AliceMcK I'm finding all the family stuff a bit too schmaltzy.

Oreyt · 18/11/2024 07:07

Up to episode 4.

Oreyt · 18/11/2024 07:07

I thought the woman living with him was his mum not nan!!!!

Onetimeonly2024 · 18/11/2024 07:18

I’ve watched it all. I enjoyed it but found it a bit drawn out and a little bit predictable. I spotted the bad guy straight away! It could have been a couple of episodes shorter.

I think it’s worth sticking to the end.

I think I like the family connection as in the books they are quite prominent and are regularly targeted.

O yeah I figured it was him the second I saw him 😂 But I liked the other bad guy twist.

No he was raised by his Nan after his mom died of a drug overdose. She’s his Nanna Momma,

And seemingly immortal, in every sense.

Oreyt · 18/11/2024 09:46

Ahh I must have fallen asleep at that point. Wow she does well if she's a nan.

FiftynFooked · 18/11/2024 16:59

I’m watching it and really enjoying it. He and Sampson are definitely well casted. I read some of the books years ago but stopped at I think book 12. It’s made me want to re-read the entire set again.

Itoldyousoo · 19/11/2024 10:54

Watching this now. Years ago I read all the books and loved them. I thought that the woman he was seeing in the books was a school headmistress or teacher? I can't get him and the woman in this series matching. I don't know how to say this but the books were less stereotypical whereas this series seems to have turned it all into the usual rap/ loud music type thing. It's lightweight compared to the books and can't seem to make up its mind which way it wants to go.

ellebelli · 20/11/2024 08:35

Watched half of episode one last night.
I agree it seems quite corny in some ways!
(All the rap music,family banter)
Plus I could be wrong but I reckon I've spotted the bad guy already!
However I have loads of Patterson books upstairs so I think I will give them a read(some a reread)

CherryogDog · 20/11/2024 08:55

@burnoutbabe I've also found it really dark, spent ages messing with my tv settings.
I gave up halfway through E1 as I couldn't see what was happening.

burnoutbabe · 20/11/2024 08:57

Thanks! So few people seem affected by it. I may try watching on laptop to see if that improves it, assuming it's tv specific.

In the books he does date a head teacher in early books. But this series isn't following the books beyond the back story of killed wife.

burnoutbabe · 20/11/2024 09:15

tried on laptop. Still very dark.very annoying filming style!

He dose in the earlier books. They haven’t followed the books storyline in the series, although do mention characters from the books.

Agree there’s more of a rap/loud music element where as in the books he was very jazz, gospel. I thinks they have modernised it which isn’t a bad thing to capture a new audience.

I really enjoyed in the end and binged last 4 this evening

No spoilers!

U only realised when looking at a cast list that the fbi agent lady is Kayla Craig. Who in the books is Kyle Craig! Who definitely does not sleep with Sampson in the books. I actually thought she was a private detective for most of the shows run.

I did not like the "next time on cross" at the end of each episode. As they were all available right away!

GretchenWienersHair · 21/11/2024 22:30

I haven’t read the books or seen any of the films, but something about it feels off. It should be a really good show as the plot is interesting and the cast seem ok, but something about it feels flat. Also, I can’t stand Elle’s character. Could have done without her!

Agree with your points.
