Well I'm surprised that this thread isn't a mile long. This programme was very disturbing. I was thinking what others have said about it not being any different to the case where parents were prosecuted for getting their toddlers to fight. I suppose the argument would be that this type of boxing is 'organised.' Organised bollox. Yes, the parents reminded me too of those sickos who organise those awful dog fights.

My DS (9) has recently started Judo. I haven't got a problem with that at all. I used to do karate as a teenager, it was only semi contact, the contact was only like light kicks or punches, very controlled. Karate is very disciplined and very good for self esteem etc. I hope my DS gets out of the judo what I did out of karate.

The parents on that programme were just awful. That Thai's Mum with her horrible wheedling voice and the way she was going on about what a good fighter she is. I can only assume these lot have had a few kicks and punches to the head themselves.

I've just come on mumsnet to see what was being said about this programme and am surprised the thread is not longer.

All i saw was the trailer and it made my stomach turn. Didn't watch the programme but am going to file an official complaint.

I think it is tantamount to child abuse and the parents need to be seriously invesigated by SS.

I totally see the logic in teaching children some sort of martial art and will be sending my dd (8mo) to learn something when she is older. Something that teaches discipline nd respect as well as self respect.

From what I saw from the trailer, that child boxing was just about mindless violence and encouraging children to beat the crap out of each other in the name of sport.

Anyone want to join me in complaining - feel absolutely sickened and disgusted that this was condoned enough to make a tv programme on it.

I will complain with you it was sick I can't belive people let there kids do this.

judo, karate ect are all fine and teach respect to children but this is just stupid.

The parents were simpletons tho you could just tell how thick they were.

boobiestoosaggy · 25/04/2008 11:40

it made me feel sick, surely as parents you want to keep them from harm as much as possible, thats wht we instinctivly catch them if they fall.
these parents had pound signs in thier eyes, they were just thinking about the money they will make out of thier kids in the future.
awful awful programme

noddyholder · 25/04/2008 11:55

It was shocking. At one time or another during the programme each of them seemed upset and unhappy about the fighting.their parents were cruel beyond belief.

I have complained to the NSPCC and OFCOM. Have had a reply from NSPCC already:

Thank you for your email to us here at the NSPCC Child Protection Helpline regarding the concerns you have for the children appearing on Strictly Baby Fight Club.

The NSPCC have formally complained to OFCOM (Office of Communications) about the content of this programme and have voiced concerns over the safety and emotional wellbeing of the children who appear in the programme.

OFCOM are the regulatory body and have set rules, guidelines and standards of acceptability that all broadcasters have to adhere to. OFCOM have reassured the NSPCC that they will be monitoring the programme in light of our concerns.

Alternatively you may wish to refer to OFCOM yourself via their on-line complaints procedure. They can be found on:-www.ofcom.org.uk

with regards
