I'm just watching this and wonder how in earth these couples can afford these mortgages. £450k the guy is an electrician not sure about the girl though.

I'm thinking the exact same thing.

And it makes you realise how expensive the SE! The houses are nothing special

The female in the country couple is annoying me

Yes, she is annoying me too. In fact both couples are to some extent.

I think, what it is, is that they all seem to want perfection regarding location, house, flat itself when they are first time buyers.

Back in the day they would be looking at things at the bottom of the ladder, but now they aspire to the forever, perfect home that others would take years and multiple house moves to get.

It could be that homes at the bottom of the ladder are snapped up by buy to let investors and they have no choice to look at more expensive homes.

However, they always seem nowadays to be so ungrateful and have snide comments about some really lovely homes. Saying that a brand new modern looking kitchen diner is "totally not to my taste and needs ripping out immediately" was infuriating to hear.

I know they are spending a lot of money, but their expectations are ridiculously high and it spoils what used to be a good programme.

Electricians can earn a lot - I regret going to uni and wish I'd learnt a trade instead tbh.

The country couple were living at home with parents, which allows for a fair amount to be saved. I think the real shock for them will be the true cost of running a home and all the unexpected expenses you incur. Although if you are in the building trade, that's going to save lots.

I think if I was spending the best part of half a million pounds I'd be quite picky too, but I did see the 'wanting perfection now' attitude in the kids DS was sharing with as a student. They fully expected to live in houses that were as nice as their parents ones!

It is mad though how expensive even quite ordinary houses are in the south.

CrushingOnRubies · 16/10/2024 22:02

Yes! I agree with the want it now attitude. The fact she owned a dog but still lived at home, was an example of that.

Found it quite interesting that both couples wants the bedrooms because of wfh not because of having people to stay / starting a family

ABirdsEyeView · 17/10/2024 10:17

Yes, companies have somehow managed to offload the costs of running an office onto the employee.

Yes I always think this when I see threads on the property board about how they need an extra bedroom due to wfh but then people say wfh saves money. But does it if you need to buy/ rent a bigger house to accommodate it, plus need to have your heating on more in winter etc.?

CoastalCalm · 17/10/2024 10:24

I thought they were both great , had obviously focussed on saving using the LISA scheme and one couple had stayed living at home to achieve it - good luck to them all

purpleme12 · 21/10/2024 00:06

That garden was massive!

And the dog was adorable 😍 😍

purpleme12 · 23/10/2024 20:46

Bump

Meredusoleil · 23/10/2024 20:50

Missed this last week, so will watch on catch up when I get a chance. But tonight's episode sounds quite similar wrt the older couple expecting the earth but not wanting to pay the high price for it 🤦‍♀️

Meredusoleil · 23/10/2024 21:01

Wtaf? Both managed to find a property to buy by themselves by cutting a bedroom! Talk about wasting Phil and Kirstie's time or what!

I'm really starting to think there are no serious buyers out there wanting to go on this show anymore and they are scraping the barrel with the participants they are getting 🙄

Meredusoleil · 23/10/2024 21:15

Bump for Blondes to see.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/10/2024 21:19

Ah thanks

HaroldMeaker · 23/10/2024 21:27

That older pair where very glum. Poor Phil trying boost them along.

Oh they were weren't they? Totally joyless.
What was the reason they'd not been looking at houses (except online) ?

You’re not working. You’re checking Rightmove four times a day and yet you do not actually go and look at any of these houses. Foxed me too

and she had a face like a slapped arse all the way through

ssd · 23/10/2024 22:08

We said that too. What a miserable pair.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/10/2024 22:16

Ha ha. I thought the same

Prices last week are insane. I'm in the se

But I did love the house with views

Only thing that bugs me is

Offers over

Just say what you want

ABirdsEyeView · 24/10/2024 10:58

Older couple pissed me right off - whining about how small that first house was and 'claustrophobic'! That house was enormous and they are so lucky to be able to afford such a nice house. Ungrateful fools!

hopeishere · 24/10/2024 11:02

Yes they were very picky! The house they went for didn't look that nice. The one the other woman bought is on a super busy road!!

MissyB1 · 24/10/2024 11:09

Really strange people last night - that older couple bloody hell! 🤦‍♀️
And the young woman, I was really surprised at the cottage she bought, all I could think was "money pit!"

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 24/10/2024 17:42

When Kirsty said 'This number is unavailable' at the end when Phil suggested they don't call him and call Kirsty instead.

They are normally very good at concealing their impatience so they must have been awful

ssd · 24/10/2024 20:38

I noticed kirsty said that too

Meredusoleil · 24/10/2024 21:45

ssd · 24/10/2024 20:38

So did I. Thought it was quite pointed and a clear message to them to not bother contacting LLL again!

Silverjellybean71 · 24/10/2024 21:51

That older couple were miserable as sin. If their London house was so amazing they must have got a packet for it, so throw a bit more money in the pot! The fact that they were renting away down in Dundrum (while it’s a lovely wee spot) suggests they’re tightwads imo
