A thread to discuss Sweetpea. I loved the books, so interested to see how the series compares

I really hope they do the books justice, I’m looking forward to watching.

TennisWithDeborah · 11/10/2024 00:25

I found it compelling. Great acting from all concerned. I haven’t read the book so can’t compare them.

GroundControlToMajorTomCat · 11/10/2024 12:06

Having watched it all, it's different from the books but I still enjoyed it. The Rhiannon in the book is a true psychopath with not much emotion, where the TV Rhiannon isn't portrayed the same way.

Have to say, it's weird watching a show and almost wanting her to kill people! Grin

I found the show way better than the books. The books feel to me like they are badly written. Like teen fan-fiction levels of bad writing. I can see that the writer was going for Sex & The City/The Secret Life of a Call Girl styles of writing but it felt honestly quite amateurish. It drives home how books getting turned into shows is more about luck than the book having any actual quality.

The show storyline made FAR more sense and was SO much better. The only thing I am disappointed about is how they changed a certain characters story when they had an opportunity to explore the way they were when they were younger. Unfortunately the lack of spoiler tags on MN mean I can't be more descriptive 😉

Ended up bingeing it, halfway through episode 4. Loved it!!
Theres another book out this month.

TossedSaladandSE · 13/10/2024 00:01

I've just started watching this

Up to episode 3

Quite intense which is a good thing

Everythingaches · 13/10/2024 08:10

I’m disappointed that there are no Sylvannian families though.

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2024 20:52

Oh my, I've only watched episode 1, but I LOVE it!! Thanks for the recommendation!

Everythingaches · 13/10/2024 21:39

I’ve binged the whole series in 2 days!

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2024 21:56

Just finished episode 2 now, it's incredible, not really like anything I've seen before!

Itsmeamandaberry · 13/10/2024 22:09

On episode four and loving it. Going to finish it tomorrow night

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 13/10/2024 23:09

Yes, watched 2 episodes tonight.

Not convinced by the first one but definitely roped in by the second.

And know exactly what you mean OP, wishing/hoping she will kill people!

Everythingaches · 14/10/2024 14:46

It gets better, first episode had terrible reviews but it improves a lot. My 16 year old daughter loved it.

Flossiecotton · 14/10/2024 16:37

We don’t have sky Atlantic but I have seen some episodes. I thought it was prime. Does any one know where I might find it

RebeccaDecember · 14/10/2024 16:44

I’m enjoying this. Rhiannon gives me Sissy Spacek as Carrie vibes.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 15/10/2024 10:17

I’m really enjoying this, have one more episode to go. It is different to the books but still good, I haven’t seen the end but I hope it’s left open for a second season.

TokyoSushi · 18/10/2024 22:13

Just watched to the end 😲

I'm watching it on NOW tv.

The actress playing Rhiannon has the biggest eyes I have ever seen.

I enjoyed the books but read them a while back, have just started episode 2, enjoying it so far.

AnnieSnap · 24/10/2024 00:07

I tried the first book a couple of years ago and couldn’t get on with it. I may give it another try though because I’m absolutely loving the TV series! It got slated in the Guardian, but us ‘normal’ viewers seem to love it.

stonkytonk11 · 24/10/2024 11:34

I'm enjoying it but some of the acting is not the best...started off quite gripping but getting a bit silly now...on episode 5

Scorchio84 · 24/10/2024 11:43

Oh cool now that "Rivals" is finished I'm in need of something to fill the gap, thanks!

Flossiecotton · 24/10/2024 12:20

I agree, once she kidnapped her nemesis it really went downhill. I would love a new series though, where the two of them become contract revengers.

Hoppinggreen · 24/10/2024 12:23

Loved the books but the series has changed her character a lot, I suppose they wanted to make her more likeable and relatable.
In the books Rhiannon is a psycopath/sociopath from day 1 but in on TV she is develping into one due to extreme provocation "falling down" style

Autumnleaveswhenthegrassisjewelled · 24/10/2024 12:26

İ'm wanting to watch this but the woman who plays the school bully really was the school bully at my primary school, so I'm not wanting to get triggered!

Oh wow! You might enjoy her being tied up and left though, even if it’s only acting.
