A thread to discuss Sweetpea. I loved the books, so interested to see how the series compares

Oh wow! You might enjoy her being tied up and left though, even if it’s only acting.

hahahahaha....tbf i bumped into her when she was older and she had mellowed out by then...but even my mum said it was ironic she was playing the school bully as she was notorious when we were young.

Watched about 3 episodes so far and really enjoying it. It has early dexter vibes for me.
Also like the whole set design of it, her house, the office have that 80s vibe.

Not read the books. Wonder where its set?

I found the show way better than the books. The books feel to me like they are badly written. Like teen fan-fiction levels of bad writing. I can see that the writer was going for Sex & The City/The Secret Life of a Call Girl styles of writing but it felt honestly quite amateurish. It drives home how books getting turned into shows is more about luck than the book having any actual quality.

The show storyline made FAR more sense and was SO much better. The only thing I am disappointed about is how they changed a certain characters story when they had an opportunity to explore the way they were when they were younger. Unfortunately the lack of spoiler tags on MN mean I can't be more descriptive 😉

I thought the same about the book, found it quite badly written and repetitive so I didn’t finish it but maybe I’ll give it a couple of episodes if it’s better done.

But silly really.

Plus her eyes and hair districted me.

Where did Julia go?

AnnieSnap · 12/11/2024 13:38

As I said above, I tried the first book, but didn’t get very far before giving up on it. Then I watched the TV series, loved it and gave the book another go. I really enjoyed it this time and I have now just started the fifth and latest! I also now understand the character better. She sustained a nasty head injury in early childhood, so has frontal lobe syndrome. This is the cause of her psychopathic behaviour.

What books are the series up to?

It’s not entirely true to the book. I’d say the first series is based on book one.

Ohh really so could be a few more series?
