I don't know if it's the angle of the stairs at arenas or just their steepness Jane but I'm the same - I hate it when I have to stand up to let someone pass - I always feel that I'm going to topple over the seat in front

Raahh · 13/09/2024 18:01

I am not mates with Depeche Mode Grin, but on the afternoon of the day I was due to go, one of my workmates (very convoluted story this, sorry!Grin) said her daughter had VIP tickets from work, and she knew I was a fan and was already going, so would I like them. Much better seats than the ones I had (my Bil and sister went instead) - and me and my friend ended up sitting next to Andy Fletcher's brother and his mum.

It was a great concert Grin. The after party was a bit of a let down- only Martin Gore was there, and it was bottles of coke in an ice box- but we can say we were there Grin.

Raahh · 13/09/2024 18:04

I made the same ticket mistake when booking to take Ds to Cbeebies liveGrin in about 2005- I ended up not being able to take him , and Dh was stuck , way up in the roof with 3 year old ds , and a very poor view of the stage Grin.

I don't go to many gigs these days. I am not allowed to order tickets . Grin.

Maybe the rest were at a more exciting party Raahh with stronger stuff than Diet Coke Grin

Well done Argentina - maybe the commentators can shed some light on what the hell is happening (although I'm not sure that anyone really understands the format)

Raahh · 13/09/2024 18:06

Naomi is a big City fan, as is Liam Grin

It may have been coke, Fizzy, but not of the bottled variety Wink.

I always get confused by the dead rubbers and stuff.

The last time I remember GB playing Argentina, I'm sure it was still 5 set matches because Andy lost to Delpo in a very long match. It was a brilliant match.

It was actually 8 years ago! Blimey.

We went to see U2 a few years ago at the Millenium Stadium and the friends we were with missed half the concert because the seats were too high up for them.

DH and I were ok but U2 looked so tiny we may as well not have bothered! Atmosphere was good though.

Raahh · 13/09/2024 18:50

I do think some stadiums are just so big, that paying just to watch a screen seems silly- but it is about the atmosphere too.

kazzaD66 · 13/09/2024 20:12

Well done Neal and Dan.
Wish you could have done that 2 days ago aswell!!

We're home! Despite losing over all we had the best time especially as we got a selfie with Neal at the end! The 2 10yr olds with me played it cool while I lost all ability to speak and then nearly fainted from excitement Blush he was super lovely and signed their tickets too (as we got moved they'd given us paper tickets as replacements).

Fizzy (and anyone else going Sunday) I'll share my tips and findings tomorrow.....I'm too giddy at the moment to say anything coherent Grin

Fizzywinegum · 13/09/2024 22:29

Glad that you had a good time Stop and good that Neal came up trumps - the matches looked good on the telly although not really the right results for GB

Any tips gratefully received Smile

JaneJeffer · 13/09/2024 22:54

Naomi Osaka has hired Patrick Mouratoglou as her new coach apparently

Is Neal as perfectly groomed in real life as he looks on the tv? He never seems to have a hair out of place Grin

Yes perfect hair and teeth Grin totally lovely, not in any rush to get off court.

Really? Patrick only really cares about Patrick, imo, so I'm not sure how Naomi will deal with that.

Fizzywinegum · 14/09/2024 11:38

Hmm I'm not sure what it is but I'm not really a fan of Patrick Moratoglou - bit of a surprise from Naomi

I'm just trying to work out how to get there tomorrow, train from by us seem to have loads cancelled, DH not keen on driving in but think it might be the easiest option. No space left to park at arena either, might see if we can park near a tram stop somewhere at get tram in.

The arena was much better organised used this year that last year, think they've learnt from last year. Depending on which block you're in I did notice there were big queues for food vendors, toilets etc and near to the entrances but on the other side there was generally no queues. They didn't seem to be being too strict about what you take in this time either, I did get bag search at one point and when he saw my water bottle he just told me not to take it out in front of him as its not allowed but then let me take it in. A few people had managed to get food in that wasn't sold inside so tomorrow I'm going to risk putting some sweets in the girls bags and if they take them off them I'm not bothered. Think it just depends on the staff on the day but just don't take anything in that you'd be upset about if they take it off you.

Fan village is behind urbis, it's not as good this year with hardly any vendors just sponsors really, but it's got a screen and deckchairs so after first match we went and got snacks from coop and sat there for 10 mins while we had them. Then we went to wagamamas for tea after second match but that meant we missed the 1st set of last match.

Hope you have a fab time tomorrow, I'm thinking I might switch allegiances and support Canada so that at least we're on the winning side Grin

Grin I found Mancunians to be very good at pretending to be stern but being big softies really. Am I right Raahh? Grin

Just read this:

"If Rafa is truly saying goodbye to professional tennis, many fans are already eager to buy tickets for the Davis Cup Final in Malaga, Spain, this November. It could be the perfect stage for a final farewell, in front of a home crowd and fans from around the world."

Rafa is costing people a fortune Grin
