It may just be me being an old fart but I find a lot of the commentators cringey and twee with their jokey comments, especially when there's 4 of them chatting. There was one I'd hear that I thought was a man spouting really annoying irrelevant stuff and all this "courtside whispering" place shite is really silly,

Well done to Aryna- I hope she wins now, she will be battling the crowds, and has already criticised the organisation of the start times and the wandering about. Of course, she has been accused of moaning. I think the US players have been told to keep schtum about whether they like the new rules and wandering about - but they must see it is affecting play.

(Fritz in particular is a hypocrite- he certainly didn't like the partisan French crowds at RG when playing Rinderknech- but he is happy to have the crowds on his side in the US, whether they disturb his opponent or not).

I see the GB Davis Cup team has been announced. Jack, Dan, Billy Harris, Neal and Henry Patten. Joe has withdrawn. Apparently he's taking a break after receiving a lot of abuse on SM after losing in the US Open! People are shite Is it not enough that he has won the title for the past 3 years? And he's such a humble, quiet bloke

kazza I am very sad on Joe's behalf about all the grief he's been getting. It just shows how crap so called 'fans' of the sport are, really. Where were they when he was winning 3 titles on the trot, and the ATP finals? Because the British media really hasn't paid him much attention, to be honest. The last year has been up and down one for Joe and Rajeev, but it would be sad to end things over this (though doubles pairings split all the time). Joe is pretty young is doubles playing terms - so I hope it doesn't discourage him too much.

I was thinking of getting tickets next week for the Davis Cup, but can't make the dates work.

I think a lot of the abuse players are experiencing on socials is coming from people who bet on tennis, Caro Garcia spoke out about it recently and shared some of the (horrific) messages she received after she lost unexpectedly. People lose money and then they abuse the players.

I'm watching Alfie and Gordon at the Paralympics- hopefully they can get the Gold medal ,which is the only thing they haven't won together.

Diede De Groot lost her gold medal match, and was pretty gutted- she has won so many titles though (and has 2 gold medals from Tokyo) - it's amazing to think she is still only 27.

What's the "wandering about"

There are new rules this year, that mean that spectators can move about whenever they like, even during play. They don't have to wait to come back to their seats until a change of ends.

Sounds like a pretty silly idea to me and very offputting to the players.

I think it is distracting- I hate faffing about looking for seats- and I'm just watching at home. .

Spectators who claim to like it are the type with no attention span, who go to baseball/football/basketball (where being quiet isn't necessary) and it's just a trip out where the sport interrupts the eating, imo. .

That's a shame about Joe - the online abuse is horrible - after I went to the Rafa tournament last week I checked out the tournament's Instagram page and some of the comments about the losing player were awful - he's only 21 but people were saying that he had the lowest IQ in tennis and calling him autistic as an insult - it really shocked me so dread to think how the players being abused feel

I would have like to have gone to the Davis Cup but not sure if I'll be able to - might have to do some work when I get back from my holiday

Just going out for dinner but will hopefully be back to see some of Jack's match
