DH had epic Pearl barley and smoked haddock in Scran and Scallie in Edinburgh. Made me love Tom Kitchin even more than before.

Just caught up.

So matey there was talking about making custard with egg yolk and sugar, and then everyone was amazed that he knew how to make custard. You could plainly see the custard powder in the bowl.

My ds noticed very much when he moved out in with his gf and their dog free home that the food dropped just stayed there! He was so used to it being snaffled up, sometimes before it even hit the floor! 🤣

Is H having cooking lessons behind the scenes? You don't just suddenly know how to cook these things because you are on Masterchef!

I loved the look of Vitos spinach dish. That raviolo looked gorgeous. I really hope he gets into the final.

Harry doesn't seem to even like any foods!

Tamars beef wellington did look delicious. The lengths he went to not touch or smell the truffle though😆

Rochendas cake looked really nice too. Not sure why it needed the spun sugar.

I hate liver. Too many meals of it as a child, all over cooked and grainy. I cooked it now for my dh and my dd (and ds when he was home). My other dd and I have baked salmon when they have it.

It is such a shame Jake went. He was a lovely contestant and clearly had some skills. I would rather dry meatballs and undercooked aubergine went.

The weather at the Saxon village looked horrendous.

I am fairly certain most mass catering people will reach straight for the custard powder, rather than faffing with separating multiple eggs. You waste all the whites as well, if you haven't planned it well. (And I don't know if it's just me, but I much prefer custard made with Bird's custard powder to over-eggy, over sweet "proper" custard. It is possible to make it nicely, but not everybody does!)

I'm going to watch last night's now, ds and Dil and grandkids arrived for dinner and I completely forgot about it.

I hate liver. In the 70s weight watchers had compulsory liver once a week. To make it more palatable it was cooked in the oven in tomato juice. It tasted as bad as it sounds 🤑

I’m liking Vito’s cooks very much. Apart from H (who has suddenly become Jamie Oliver) I quite like the other people. It does mean that all these contestants could turn up in future series as judges, saying how they remember how the new contestants are feeling and suddenly become experts on technique, flavours and what they would have added to improve the meals. I can’t stand it if they say they are afraid of the combination of ingredients or they don’t understand the plate. I’ve never been confused by food, I either like it or dislike it!

I've caught up now after my holiday. I'm delighted to see Vito doing well. See you all soon.

One of my dearest friends is 95 and in a care home. She gives people "Fred's" as she calls the ladybirds to put on their glasses.

The standard of the semi-finalists this year is really good. There's no Swash figure who seems to be winging it.
