Anyone watching??

I seem to have momentarily forgotten everything that's happened and what they remember from previous versions and what's going on 😂.
It did get odder and odder.... I do like it though!

Ooh I've read a review and I think I'm catching up! On episode 2 now.

OP posts:
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/08/2024 09:53

Finished it..mixed feelings. It's a shame it only had 6 episodes because some parts felt rushed and a few characters definitely wasted!

Samcro · 11/08/2024 10:03

only on episode 4. enjoying it , but keep wondering about stuff.

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 16:36

I'm properly binging. Episode 5 now!

There's only 6 episodes so got a feeling lots of ends won't be tied up.

OP posts:
HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 17:46

Oooh episode 6.

OP posts:
ObsidianTree · 11/08/2024 17:56

I finished it. Won't give spoilers. Will wait for others to catch up before discussing it!

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 18:06

I'm nearly there! Bit random episode 6.... 🤔

OP posts:
CatamaranViper · 11/08/2024 18:09

It feels unfinished. I know it is but it doesn't feel satisfactory, which I understand why they've done it.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 11/08/2024 18:18

I found this series to have much more humour than the others.

The ending made sense (sadly) and I’m gutted that’s it. Wish there had been 10 episodes.

ObsidianTree · 11/08/2024 18:23

Question ... I hope everyone has got this far...

Why didn't they age when trapped on the underground? Did they explain that?

I guess I accept the ending. But felt sad that it ended like that. Wish there was a little nugget of hope at the end though.

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 18:35

Oh 😔. Finished now.

I thought they did? She said she found her first grey hair which I assumed was her aging, though I suppose it could have been stress?

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 11/08/2024 19:50

We watched it in 2 sittings.
I was struck by how deep Elliott Page's voice is now.

I'm not sure how I felt about the ending. It tied it all up. It was a definite ending. But felt like a bit of a cop out.

Oh yes I noticed that. I guess I assumed that 5 would have aged noticably in 7 years. So found it strange they didn't look different after that time.

I thought maybe being it was a fixed moment in time in all timelines they didn't age. But I don't remember them saying so so wasn't sure. Also, when 5 met the rest of the 5s, they were all the same age, so thought maybe time was paused?

HarrytheHobbit · 11/08/2024 23:49

@DumbassHamsterSitterPerson

I noticed that about Page's voice as well.

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 23:50

Yes elliot Page is quite different now. I did find myself fascinated by the change.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 12/08/2024 15:20

Elliot now has vocal and physical mannerisms that are stereotypically "manly".
Do I think Elliot has "passing privilege"? No, I don't. It's the eyes.
I do think they are talented though. It will be interesting what roles they're offered in the future.

5's body was stuck in time and couldn't age on his first return from 45 years in the apocalypse, even though he'd aged there. He returned to his 13 year old body. That he's aged in real life (20 now) has been glazed over or I missed it and it was accepted he'd age in the new timelines. A good thing too given the Lila storyline.

Subway Timeline Travel Explained In 'The Umbrella Academy' Season 4: Why Didn't Five And Lila Get Old? (dmtalkies.com)

Time-freeze tube according to this.
Makes no sense given Lila mentioned finding a grey pube at one point.
Aidan Gallagher looks like Judd Nelson with that hair.

Subway Timeline Travel Explained In 'The Umbrella Academy' Season 4: Why Didn't Five And Lila Get Old?

Hell no - doesn't explain it at all within that article. Time-freezing zone, my arse then (summary of article wrong).

Nugget of hope could have been your blooming gold flowers in the end credits

After the fate of the Hargreeves’ siblings is revealed – that they are gone for good and that no one in the world remembers who they are – a post-credits scene for the finale drops a major tease.
The camera zooms in on some flowers in that are growing… before they bloom into eight marigolds.
Some fans might take this to mean that there could be a new Umbrella Academy or something similar in future, perhaps setting off a chain of events similar to what has already transpired.

But TV creator Blackman said:
‘You can assume many things from that. We can assume that some essence of Marigold still exists somewhere in the world. It may do nothing ever again. And it could just be flowers, or it could be what’s left of them because there happens to be eight flowers. And a couple of them kind of turn into each other.
‘But I’m leaving it to the audience to decide what it really means. Does that mean there could be more of the Umbrella Academy or is it just that a tiny bit of their essence does go on?’
When asked if some fans might find ‘comfort’ in that image, he added: ‘I hope so. I also think some fans might be offended by it. I think it’s the right ending — the right coda, I should say — for the end of the show.’

Screenrant insists they mean nothing in terms of a sequel/marigold dust. They represent the family.

Edited

Lol you're right. It doesn't explain it at all!

As a few hours had passed, maybe only a few hours of real time had passed? And therefore they didn't age.

I find it hard to believe that 5 ages 7 years. He still looked too young to be like 27 Ish! So can only assume time was frozen for them. They also didn't seem too concerned while losing 7 years. So maybe they themselves believed they weren't aging.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 12/08/2024 16:48

Yeah, I'm not going to look at it too closely.
It's timey-wimey stuff.

1989 they're all born
2019 reunited (all meant to be thirty at that point) 5 reverts to a 13 year old body then ages normally.
1963 JFK timeline
2019 Sparrows timeline
2024 five years after losing powers (all now meant to be thirty-five years old except for 5 who is now 18 years old)

Cast in real life isn't that far off:
Elliot is now 37
Tom is 39
David is 34
Emmy is 35
Robert is 36
Ritu is 35
Aidan is 20

In fairness, because Aidan plays mature old man so well, the love element between him and Ritu (18/35 in this, 20/35 in real life) worked - especially as we'd seen Five survive with the mannequin and it was all about survival for Ritu: in the couple of hours they were away from the 2024 timeline, he'd have ended up 25/her 42). She definitely complains about finding a grey hair "not there either". She was also concerned her children wouldn't "love her so much" - it is Five who reminds her that for them, she hasn't been gone, it's only been a couple of hours.
But I don't know why they didn't age them up in the sequences then revert them on the return.

MollyRover · 12/08/2024 17:15

@BehindTheSequinsandStilettos wouldn't their ages be different because they were dropped at different points in the 1960s?

Loved the Lila/Five storyline, Aidan Gallagher is a fantastic actor. Couldn't stand Vanya/Viktor from the beginning, any scenes he had in this season were fast forward-able. Think they could have done more with Klaus and Alison. Just wish it was 10 episodes long!!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 12/08/2024 17:59

That's it feel Klaus was very much wasted. Allison glad they fixed her but still..

Viktor was a bit shouty. Just found it watchable but like season 3 had lost its charm a little.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 12/08/2024 18:53

TIL that Gene and Jean are married in real life.
I knew Offerman from Parks + Rec and Mullally from Will + Grace but I had no idea they have been together two decades!
