Better Call Saul - when does it get more interesting?!

I’ve just binged Breaking Bad for the 4th time 🫣 have tried and failed to get into Better Call Saul every time I’ve finished BB and always got bored after episode 2!

I’m determined to watch it this time, but when can I expect the storyline to become as gripping as BB is from the outset?!

It doesn’t get better. It’s so boring. We’ve given up a few times now. Ozark is good if you like Breaking Bad.

Awrite · 02/08/2024 23:29

I gave up after a few episodes. Then returned as I was told it gets better. Stuck it out for at least 2 seasons (felt longer) and it remained crap.

chattyness · 02/08/2024 23:32

I think it does, we loved it except for the last season which really bored me

DTisawazzock · 02/08/2024 23:39

We loved it. Don't give up.

PurpleMat · 02/08/2024 23:39

It's totally different to breaking bad, so you can't expect the same thing. But I loved learning the back stories of all the characters from breaking bad. Mike and Gus especially, two of the most interesting characters I've seen on a TV show and so well played by the actors.

Neveranynamesleft · 02/08/2024 23:48

Absolutely stick with it......

Helplessandheartbroke · 03/08/2024 00:15

I tried for 3 seasons and all I got was his weird brother in tin foil.... I sacked it off

Blackcats7 · 03/08/2024 00:18

I found both dire. I have tried as so many people rave about them but not for me at all.

TheMithrasDirective · 03/08/2024 00:32

Surprised by the replies, I thought it was brilliant. I felt quite bereft when it was over. Like a really meaty novel in televisual form.

TheMithrasDirective · 03/08/2024 00:36

I just saw you liked Breaking Bad. Yeah, they're not really that similar, although BB becomes more and more prominent in BCS as it goes on. I think they're like two different contrasting colours that look perfect together, rather than two shades of the same colour.

NCrent · 03/08/2024 00:36

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I much preferred Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad! Slightly slow in the first season, but it’s so worth it and one of my favourite shows.

AutumnColours9 · 03/08/2024 00:49

I love BB but just cannot get into BCS and have stuck it out till S2.

SnowmanInTheSun · 03/08/2024 00:58

It's completely different to Breaking Bad. We found it slow. Watched it all and it's good to see the character development but you won't get the excitement of BB.

SnowmanInTheSun · 03/08/2024 01:00

I'd recommend El Camino if you want an extra BB type fix.

BESTAUNTB · 03/08/2024 01:03

I disliked the first few eps of BCS but on the whole I loved it. The brother was tedious at times but I appreciated all the other characters and enjoyed spotting the BB alumni like Hector, the camp chemist, and the vacuum cleaner guy who made the fake IDs.

Ozark is brilliant too. Again, the first ep left me cold though.

MarjorieStuartBaxter · 03/08/2024 01:21

I'm on season 4...trued watching it a while back gave up on episode 1.....gave it another chance abd it's good cleverly done to set the scene for what happened in bb, while giving smaller charecters thier own stories.
It is slow at times but it was never meant to be braking bad......but even some episodes of that were slow.
Agree ozark is amazing or queen of he south of you want that bb action

Chitasaurus · 03/08/2024 01:38

I hated/was bored with a lot of season 1 and 2 of Better Call Saul, but sticking it out is very much worth it in the end. I particularly loved Kim Wexler's and Nacho's stories'. In many ways it is better, but more subtle than BB.

I'd recommend El Camino if you want an extra BB type fix.

I loved El Camino!

I’ll give BCS a chance (at least until the end of S1) and then decide if I can finish it! Mike is my favourite BB character so I’m interested to see what brought him to where he is in BB.

It's a better and more thoughtful show than breaking bad. Stick with it.

FredaFox · 03/08/2024 08:22

Loved BB
Loved BCS
Hated Ozark, gave up during series 1
Saul is slow but as it develops there are so many links to BB and the character development is great. I definitely think it's worth preserving (do hate Saul's brother though)

pasta · 03/08/2024 08:45

You need to stick it out for the first season and then it gets really good. But the first season is so bad I am amazed it got re-commissioned

Dbank · 03/08/2024 08:54

I thought BB was excellent, BCS okay but dragged at times and El Camino a disappointment.

If you have the energy I would still try and bing out BCS, just for the backstory to BB.

Portakalkedi · 03/08/2024 09:17

If you're not finding it interesting then seems it's not for you.

Rollergirl11 · 03/08/2024 10:04

Really try and stick with BCS as the later seasons and character development are immense. It’s deffo a slow burn and very self indulgent at times. But the later series have episodes that have that same intense, heart in your throat, stressful as fuck moments where you can’t breathe, just like BB.

There are so many great great characters in BCS, more than BB I think. Kim, Nacho, Howard, Lalo all have amazing back stories. And then you have the BB favourites of Mike, Gus, Hectar and of course Saul. When you start getting overlap it really is genius.

mondaytosunday · 03/08/2024 13:41

I thought it was brilliant. But may not be your thing - try another couple episodes but if still doesn't grab you leave it.
