A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I'm really enjoying No Love No Gain! Although ML's hair is awful and the wedding dress was pretty hideous too.

It was deliberately hideous. She didn’t want her guests to notice or remember the groom.

I have two theories about ML in No Love No Gain.

1. He is illegitimate child of chaebol dad and half brother to CEO (this is pretty obvious)
2. He was fostered by FL's mum when young.

Morning all! I'm shattered by the first week back to school and have been dozing off regularly through Lawless Lawyer. DH is loving it. Its ok, maybe I would enjoy it more if I was awake! DD2 and I have finished When I Fly Towards You. Cute but not as good as Hidden Love though DD2 feels the opposite. I watched the first episode of something and I can't for the life of me remember the name or what it was about or even which platform it was on so I guess I won't be carrying on with that. I'm loving Love Next Door, tonight's episode might have to wait until tomorrow though. Both DDs and I are off to Harry Potter Studio Tours today, everyone is fast asleep and I was planning to catch up with my book club read but now I think I'll be heading downstairs to start No Gain No Love (or is it the other way around?) I love a contract marriage plot and this has been all over my tiktok

In other news, my teacher bae-poo and I had a fun meeting to plan our extracurricular KClub we are starting in 2 weeks and my list has grown even longer. We have made a list of topics we want to cover and will show episodes of dramas that reflect it before getting into some practical stuff like writing names, making gimbap and learning some dance moves etc. Hoping the kids will lead and have some ideas of what they want to do. Either way, my list of dramas to watch won't be getting any shorter

I'm finally caught with LND - I was annoyed because I saw a pretty spoiler on Instagram.

Now, am I misremembering or did we not see the ex-fiancé snogging another woman at a party in a flashback from the US in an early episode? But they said that nobody cheated ...? I'm confused.

There was deffo a pool scene - but it was ambiguous if there was a kiss or it was her perspective.

I thought there was cheaty-McCheater snogging by the fiancé at the pool party too. Is this like that video of the basketball players where a man in a gorilla suit walks through the middle of the players and you don’t notice? i.e. We all thought there was cheating because we filled in the blanks & something else was actually happening?

I agree boaty - felt like we didn't need this additional plot line - would have been enough to explore parents expectations / burnout / racism in the US - that alone is enough to be getting on with. Could have got to some snogging earlier too

I also saw the spoiler and so have paused for a while and working through NGNL, which I am enjoying immensely! Romance in the House is also keeping me happy but not liking the new plot line developing there either. Have to say am impressed with Minho, he is playing it very understated and not flashy/idoly, which must have bene a temptation with marital arts element. Also got My Sassy Girl, the sageuk on the go! Think I am distracting myself of the impending move to Uni of the 2 x DDs.

It's def become my favourite of currently airing shows. I am also watching Cinderella at 2am which is fine but nothing to write home about. I will enjoy it and probably never think about it again once it finishes 😅
