Think it's, time for strictly to finish - not just because of the reports of the pro dancers alleged behaviour but the whole idea has become so stale most of the time you've probably never heard of some of the contestants. I haven't watched it for at least 2 years.

What do other mumsnetters think

There are already 2 threads running about Strictly at the moment.

this one in chat

and

this one.

Personally, I've been saying for a while that it's becoming more and more like a pantomime every year, and it all feels heavily manipulated some how. More about the drama rather than the dancing and with the exception of Craig, I really can't stand the current judges. Motsi is too shrill, and Shirley is inconsistent.

So sad about Strictly. | Mumsnet

It's been part of our family life since it started. I really wanted to think it was as wholesome and joyous and life affirming as it looked, even...

I don't really take it very seriously. It's just easy watching on a Saturday night.I'm not really interested in all the back stage dramas.

Grazianoscubanheel · 20/07/2024 20:59

Its as strong as HRT for some viewers. Be a shame to ban it.

Gowlett · 20/07/2024 21:01

I’ve never seen it. But I know people love it.
Imagine that some women like the Italian stallion thing…

I mostly watch it for the swishy sparkly dresses.

Lincoln24 · 20/07/2024 21:37

I wouldn't be too heartbroken if it took a break. For quite a few years now it's been trying to outdo itself year on year sometimes to the point of ridiculousness, and now with the recent issues it feels very deflated and tired.

LlynTegid · 20/07/2024 22:01

I think it should be several weekly shows, each one chooses a winner, and then the weekly winners meet in semi-finals and finals.

Or just finish. The BBC have form for continuing shows far too long, such as Last of the Summer Wine, My Family, and Not Going Out, for example.

2inthestink · 20/07/2024 22:06

Its the enforced jollity thats unnerving. The fake smiles, the praying gesture with hands by way of begging for praise, Tess and Claudia like some ugly sisters double act of terribly unfunny quips and gurning. Never been the same since Len and Brucie left. It's a shit pantomime now with Shirley having her favourites week on week and now all this abuse scandal. Time to call it a day.

WGACA · 20/07/2024 22:17

I hope I have the resolve to boycott it from now on. I’ve been an avid watcher for 20 years and go to the live shows but we’ve got to hit the BBC where it hurts and that’s ratings sadly.

Wantitalltogoaway · 23/07/2024 07:47

It got us through the second lockdown, such a joy to watch in all that gloom.

I’ll be gutted if it’s axed but I think this will be the last series sadly.

dbryan · 26/07/2024 17:59

Well I disagree. I think that strictly come dancing should continue. Everyone loves strictly and there are fans in up North of Blackpool who will agree with me. Halloween, Movie Musical week are brilliant and specially Blackpool Special. Bruce forsyth and Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli will be behind strictly 100 percent and so will I

devildeepbluesea · 26/07/2024 18:02

Agree. It’s been a bit old hat for ages, Motsi is a pain in the arse and the recent revelations just leave a bad taste in the mouth. Time to retire it, then drag it back out of the closet in 15 years for that retro experience.

pingpongding · 26/07/2024 18:04

Love it. Cant wait for the new series

Runnerinthenight · 26/07/2024 18:07

It helps get me through the autumn! Yeah a lot of it is cringey, but they could take that out. (They won't).

RightOnTheEdge · 26/07/2024 18:07

I think they should do what Bake Off did and cut back on the silly themes and gimmicks.
I used to love watching it, but I haven't for years now because it all got too over the top and it spoiled it.

Dearg · 26/07/2024 18:08

The Beeb are hiring extra staff to observe training, intimacy coaches to ensure partners do not experience inappropriate touching and will be spending £££ on lawyers to sort out previous years claims . What a waste of licence fee. Time for the chop

CP1978 · 26/07/2024 19:27

Absolutely not! I'd be gutted if it ended..it is an integral part of Autumn and Winter for me. Wish people would stop calling for it to end, it's a huge joy for so many people. Obviously things needed to be dealt with and change but I don't think its a reason to end at all.

Bobbybobbins · 26/07/2024 19:53

I think if you don't want to watch it then don't. It still provides entertainment for many so why deprive people of that.

Exactly this! If you don't like it, don't watch, simple as that, don't try and spoil it for others that do enjoy it! I'll never understand people calling for programmes to end! There are numerous other channels, just watch something else instead, why try and spoil it for other people?!

I don’t watch, and I would not want to spoil it for you. But I, along with everyone else that watches terrestrial tv, pays for this drivel through my tv licence. And paying for machismo bullies to prance about in sequins is a waste of my cash .

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 26/07/2024 21:21

I am late to the party - only started watching 5 years ago so would be sad if it stopped now

So if you don't watch it you are just going on what you've read in the media then and tarring all the pro dancers with the same brush! So every pro dancer on the show is a bully then are they?

Beth216 · 26/07/2024 21:43

I love it, it's easy to watch nonsense. I agree with a PP though that I'd like them to cut back on the silly theme weeks or change them up. Get's me through from the end of summer to Christmas though.

Dearg · 26/07/2024 21:44

Don’t be daft. I have watched it in the past. And indeed enjoyed it. Grown very bored with it. But yes, Amanda, Zara, , even Rose, telling tales of bullying, even injury. Do you think it’s all lies?
And I am fairly certain, at no point in my posts did I tar all the pro dancers with the same brush. But the fact that the BBC now have to layer in safeguarding suggests that they think they may have an issue, or at least they are open to being sued.
Either way, I object to my licence fee having to cover the chaperones, and legal fees. And no, I won’t be watching it.

Don't be daft? OK then!!
The 'bullies' have left so you wouldn't be paying to watch bullies prancing about in sequins!
There's plenty of programs I pay my licence for that I don't watch or am interested in but I don't object about having to pay my licence fee for them, it's just the way it goes.
