Someone has uploaded the entire program series on YouTube. And the quality is fantastic. A friend also told me they are shown on Sky too, but I've never come across them.

I haven't watched since I was around 8 or 9 and those episodes I remember scared the living daylights out of me. Now enjoying a blast from the past afternoon.

What I never appreciated at the time, were the well known actors and actresses. Currently watching Susan George and Brian Blessed. 😁

First episode had Pamela Stephenson who was breathtakingly good looking.

Also so many women in house coats! 🤣👌

It might have been called unnatural causes

My dad met Telly Savalas when he was filming one of these. Mum doubted him until seeing the episode.

Was it the twilight zone?

Or was there something called armchair thrillers?

ArmChair Thriller (blast from the past there Grin )

There was one where a girl is kidnapped and held to random ( rich parents posssibly Diplomats ) she manages to escape .

A young woman with a Police Officer boyfriend , she is stalked by an elderly man and there's a dog who is dognapped ( not a good ending for the dog you see it floating in the river )

And "Quiet As a Nun" ( which was an Armchair Thriller introducing Jemina Shore )

I have found my people!

My faves are...

Brian blessed and the leg of lamb
And....
The woman whose controlling husband is trapped as an eyeball in a jar

hangsangwitch · 09/06/2024 17:58

the one with the chap who had a work of art by now priceless artist tattooed on his back was my favourite - he was seduced by the idea of living at a beach resort and walking around with his shirt off so everyone could see it, but he was duped!

I'm going to watch Back for Christmas from Season 2 tonight.

At the moment I'm revisiting my childhood again by watching an old horror film called "Horror Express" with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Telly Savalas. It scared the bejezus out of me as a kid. It's so bad though. 🤣🤣🤣

Although Telly Savalas in a fur trimmed red coat is kind of...... dashing.... 😳

My most memorable favourite was the guy who was digging a hole in his house and his two mates who he overheard, badmouthing his wife. They assumed he had killed her and was burying her in the hole so he had to dig the hole to prove she wasn't.
Best twist!

MaitreKarlsson · 09/06/2024 20:56

The lift one with the late husband. I read that story in the book first before i saw the episode and it stayed with me. Now and every time DH is irritating me by taking his time getting ready while I sit in the car, I think about it again ...just drive off without him and leave the body for 2 weeks😂
Just read this back and I sound unhinged 😬

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/06/2024 21:03

I terrified my little sister by making her watch ‘Royal Jelly’ with Timothy West.

There was also this series, if anyone remembers it - ‘Thriller’.

Royal jelly! Still plays on my mind.

I don’t think I could watch them again.

Same for hammer house of horror. The house that bled to death.

Nor the twilight zone. With the gremlin tearing apart an airplane’s wing.

Omg that is horrifying, when I moved in here last year the broadband wasn't connected, so watched vanilla normal TV and royal jelly was on, I wanted to scream on behalf of the mum! Also that twilight zone movie is absolutely chilling even if a bit naff, the airplane segment terrified me of flying, I got over it, but I guarantee if you watch it, you'll never look at airplane wing the same again

Whatineed · 09/06/2024 21:14

@70isaLimitNotaTarget the kidnapped dog story from Armchair Thriller still has my 60 yo friend freaked and she watched it when she was 17 😅

If I’m sitting near the wing I watch it carefully because of the twilight zone 😱

I don’t think it was TOTU but I watched something once where a young woman got on a train with some strange characters and it’s transpired that she would never be able to get off ? It really scared me but I can’t remember what it was ? Does anyone know ?

Could that have been the Hammer House of Horror version of The Lady Vanishes?

I've just watched Royal Jelly but am really confused by the end - does he want to eat her at the end? Apparently the book description of the baby is really graphic but I couldn't see anything?

Alwaysgothiccups · 11/06/2024 01:26

Oh I love them! Have them all on dvd.
Bzzzzz

newfriend05 · 11/06/2024 01:33

The episode about the baby being given fresh honey has never left me ..

The baby is turning into a pupae ..

ColdGirlWinter · 14/06/2024 14:07

I've never seen any of these or the thriller one that someone posted upthread but I have just looked up the Royal Jelly one 🙀🐝

CellophaneFlower · 15/06/2024 15:07

Isn't there one when Joan Collins attempts suicide but thinks her husband will find her in time but he doesn't? Just remember her arranging herself fully made up in a silk dressing gown on her bed.

Also remember one where they hide diamonds in ice cubes and a box of chocs being injected with poison.

Loved the leg of lamb.... must have been about 8 when I used to watch them.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 15/06/2024 15:12

I remember Joan Collins in one where, as the cheating wife of a very rich man, she got her head stuck in the hole of a Henry Moore style sculpture. Iirc, it ended with her husband lopping her head off.

Edited

🤣 I mean I don't know if actresses appeared in more than one episode but it's quite likely I might have got them mixed up after almost 40 years 🙈

ImDuranDuran · 15/06/2024 15:18

The one with the paranoid wife (The Eavesdropper) is brilliant.

Spoiler Alert

There's one with Derek Jacobi where he murders poor old Clive Swift while in disguise as a joker or something, then vanishes back home as his normal self...

I was able to watch it on YouTube but I'm pretty sure they cut part of the ending because the one time I saw it, I thought something happened which meant that he could have potentially been identified as the murderer? Like a child recognises him? Anyone remember this?

@mikado1 I think that one is Richard Briers and Patricia Routledge, called 'The Verger'.
