Yay!

Thanks for the thread, Fizzy Grin

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 10:31

Thanks Fizzy Grin

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 11:07

Poor Anna Blinkova twisted her ankle and had to retire

Raahh · 10/05/2024 11:13

That's a shame- I only saw the start, but she seemed to be doing well.

Maria is looking good- I had almost forgotten about her, not seen much of her lately.

And Rybakina has withdrawn.

magimedi · 10/05/2024 12:07

Bonjour!

Talking of allthe retirments & injuries I had my cousin staying last w/e. He's a big football fan & was saying that there have been a huge ammount of injuries lately & had been reading that some doctors are wondering if it is a knock on effect post covid. Wonder if this is the same in tennis?

Fizzywinegum · 10/05/2024 13:24

Thiem has officially announced his retirement Sad - at least he managed to win a slam but it’s a bit of a sad end for him

Your cousin might have a point magi - Matteo hasn’t been the same since he had covid just before Wimbledon and Rybakina hasn’t really been the same since she withdrew from the French open last year with illness

I think it's probably just a combination of so much match play and the level they play at these days plus they never leave the gym.

Mac probably didn't even know where the gym was unless it was next door to a nightclub!

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 13:27

That's sad for Domi. He could have achieved so much.

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 13:34

The fridge is banjaxed Grin

Fizzywinegum · 10/05/2024 13:39

I’ve not managed to watch any tennis yet - it will probably be raining again when I do get chance! I’m having a bit of a stressful day so could do with some good tennis to watch - wonder what time Rafa is on tomorrow?

The tour is relentless - they never seem to get a break and usually play through injuries especially if they have to defend points - yes Mac probably spent more time in Studio 54 than the gym Grin

Garbine Muguruza has also retired - they’ve not really made a big thing of that (apart from some journalists telling her she’d put weight on since she stopped training Hmm)

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 13:42

I don't think I'll get to see Rafa tomorrow Sad

Raahh · 10/05/2024 13:52

It really is a shame about Domi- he's had such a lot of bad luck, is retiring at an age when (these days) a lot of the male players are actually seeing their careers take off. 30 is young to consider retiring. But I can appreciate that he will feel there is no point dragging things out - as others have gone- for another few years, for mediocre results and more injuries. It's a brave decision.

Garbine is the same age- I knew she was retiring (is she engaged as well, or did i dream that?) . I think she should have done a lot better than she did- but , again, injuries got in the way.

I hope to see Rafa tomorrow- depends on the time. If they schedule him at a daft time of the night (unlikely but the weather may not play ball) - it could clash with Eurovision ShockGrin

kazzaD66 · 10/05/2024 13:55

Thanks for the new thread fizzy

Just watched Domi's retirement video. Sad he's had to call time due to his injuries. Lots of retirements this year (apart from beelzebub Angry)

Raahh · 10/05/2024 13:56

I saw you were on the naughty step on the last thread Jane Grin.

i think it's such a daft rule!(I know it's probably to deter scammers or something, but even so).

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 14:06

MN treating me like a spammer. What a fucking liberty!

Raahh · 10/05/2024 14:08

Grin tut tut

Oh- Kenin has pulled back in her match against Jabeur.

Fizzywinegum · 10/05/2024 14:08

Grin I’ve never seen that before! We’ll all be having a MN cooldown when Rafa’s match is on ( especially if it clashes with Eurovision) - lots of cross posting opportunities

Hello all and thanks for new thread Fizzy. It is a shame about Dom, another case of potential not fully realised due to injuries. I’m sure I read that Garbine wanted to start a family and that was a factor in her decision - maybe she’ll return in future, who knows. She had taken quite a while off before formally retiring though, I think, so maybe she’s just had enough.

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 14:19

Not looking good for Ons now. I wonder if she managed to get the fridge open at least.

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 14:24

The seagulls are very loud

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 14:26

Well done Sofia. I read she had a major barney with the umpire the other day.

Raahh · 10/05/2024 14:28

Well done to Sofia- she is connected to a Thiem memory for me, he was the one that Serena demanded leave the press conference room, so she could use it (after she lost to Kenin at RG).

I do feel for Ons. She is putting a lot of pressure on herself to do well, and I think (from interviews she has given)if she could chuck it all in an start a family tomorrow- she would. But she wants the big results first.

JamieFraserBackAgain · 10/05/2024 15:12

Just parking.

The seagull yelling may just be me JaneJeffer

I love a big squawk. Especially about Serena.

JaneJeffer · 10/05/2024 15:25

Grin Serena is busy fashioning dresses from tinfoil these days

Raahh · 10/05/2024 15:28

Sascha safely through. Bagel first set.

And nice to see that Grigor won as well.

Casper due to play soon- but they probably won't be showing it on Sky.
