Tonight gold and white are the ‘In’ colours. There's the obligatory wind machines and pyro. Watch out for dancing surprises cos there's No Rules and a distinct issue with the wardrobe department!

Housekeeping: Out of the other 15 entries, only 10 will go through to the final. The semi-final is TELEVOTE ONLY. The UK, Germany and Sweden will all perform tonight as part of the main show in a change to previous years although they have already automatically qualified for the final.

I didn’t watch much of it live except for the UK (which I wished I hadn’t as it was shite) so missed Ireland. Well, have just watched it on YouTube and oh dear God, what on earth was that? I feel like Phoebe: My eyes! MY EYES!

I’m of the age which remembers Johnny Logan winning with a song I can still hum; I can’t remember a single note of her song five minutes after listening to it. The ‘look’, on the other hand, is burned on my brain.

It's not an argument. It's facts (after being mocked for lack of geographical knowledge, ironically).

First time I watched it in a while, teenage DD was so excited. I don't think Rylan and Scott brought what Graham Norton and Terry Wogan did in terms of wit, but maybe that was because there were two of them so they were jostling for air time a bit.

Not a fan of the UK song, it feels like it's had the kitchen sink thrown at it and it's less than the sum of its parts. The staging was weird too, I read today it was supposed to be in a space ship, but it felt more like a changing room at a boxing gym. Why all the cross faces?

Semi Final 2 thread

I find it pathetic how overly sexualised some of the performances are. Olly’s performance was basically blokes on all fours humping each other. Load of partial nudity in the other performances. I’m still having nightmares about last years entry for Germany.

It’s pathetic and more like Eurotrash now. We used to have Eurovision parties but no way I’d let my kids watch the sexualised shit show that this has turned into.

That’s an interesting point @Footzok . I didn’t take much notice of the pre-watershed acts. What time was Olly Alexander on? Because he really was humping men in dirty clothes in a grimy public lav. No wonder we didn’t get any points.

Agree, the song was weak and instantly forgettable, his voice so low I could hardly hear it. The set and dancing was crude, grubby and vulgar, totally inappropriate for Eurovision! The public made their view known by giving no points. How embarrassing.
