Watched the first episode of this tonight and enjoyed it, though it had the usual annoying Channel 4 repetition of key points after each advert break. Interesting that Keith is with someone who cries as much as he does! Though I suspect the producers were milking this a bit as it’s now so much his ‘trademark’. What a daunting project though. DH and I are doing a renovation at the moment and it was quite therapeutic to watch, as it’s a massive task compared to ours.
Anyone else watch?

Yes really enjoyed it but what a mammoth project. marj reminded me of dawn French.

WhatDaPoint · 06/05/2024 01:38

I think it looks like it will be good. I love the building. The crying is terrible though. I hope it's not too much. I don't mind a bit of crying but it's the cameras lingering on the crying that's annoying.
I'd also love it if there were more facts and figures.

I'll watch all the shows though.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 06/05/2024 09:12

We were laughing at the cursory cleaning of the toilets and the pulling up of a few weeds. But I guess they had to show them doing something and nothing major can be done without permission. Next week's looks good when they tackle the alien fungus!

I forgot this was on, I'll have to watch on catch up. I love renovation programmes and I love Keith so it should be a winner for me!

Gettingbysomehow · 06/05/2024 09:23

I'm watching avidly. I did a renovation once and never ever again. The useless workmen, the mess, the horror. During this upheaval DS decided he was coming home to live with me again and needed to follow a special diet when we had no kitchen, H spent the entire renovation in a massive sulk because he couldn't go off with his hobbies 24/7, we had to live amongst the mess because we had nowhere else to go and I was the only one working.
To top it all there was a recession and our loan was withdrawn.
We ended up divorced and I'm never doing it again. My current home is a fully renovated modern house.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 06/05/2024 12:02

Luckily we don't have to live in the property we're renovating - sounds horrendous!

Just watched this and really enjoyed it. What a mess it is!

marj reminded me of dawn French.

yes! Looks, voice and mannerisms! I had to keep reminding myself she wasn't Dawn.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 08/05/2024 17:16

I like her dry sense of humour. And they're obviously crazy about each other.

The only interesting thing was the fact that pigeon poo rots timber.

Dottiethekangaroo · 11/05/2024 15:34

I love this, Keith seems such a genuine person

Sunshinedahlias · 12/05/2024 20:49

Such an interesting building but quite slow paced ! Quite a lot of bunting in this episode...

FlickDrink · 12/05/2024 21:50

That episode was a bit dull. I like them and I love the building but nothing interesting happened.

BESTAUNTB · 02/06/2024 20:46

I like a Renovation programme so I’m glad I spotted this thread.

SoupDragon · 03/06/2024 08:38

It only seems to have been 4 episodes

Churchview · 03/06/2024 08:50

Loved the show and totally agree that Marj is Dawn French's double.

If you like Keith his autobiography 'Boy in a China Shop' is a great read.

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 03/06/2024 21:18

I've just finished the 4th episode, I know my heart is icy but I found all the cutesy supportive neighbours and stuff a bit contrived.
I suppose there's a formula to follow to warm our cockles.
And the shipping container mini do up felt like a bit of a panic from the producers to give us some progress.
Seems a bit chaotic but no doubt it'll be spectacular.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/06/2024 16:24

I’ve just watched the 4th episode too. DH and I reckon they made a mistake putting a series on so quickly - they should have waited until more progress had been made, then squashed together the early pootling around stuff into one or two episodes. I found it so frustrating watching Marj especially scraping a bit of paint here, cleaning a patch of something there and never actually finishing anything. We were also a bit underwhelmed by the pillar transformation! I do love them both though and the squeezing sideways along the wall into bed in the container made me laugh. Surely they aren’t really going to lug 50 kettles of water in to fill that bath?

Ugh, I agree. It's too slow and contrived. It comes across as very amateurish 🫤

DontThinkJustDo · 15/06/2024 17:32

What happened to it? It suddenly finished. Is the project finished?

LaBelleSauvage123 · 15/06/2024 19:19

God no - it’s hardly started! They’ve cleaned the pigeon poo out of the roof space, moved the pulpit a few feet and taken out a couple of pews, cleaned the roof ventilation thingies, sandblasted the pillars and taken half a dresser off the wall. Oh and a bit of cleaning and paint scraping. Well presumably it’s further forward now, but that’s all they’d done by the end of the series.

I wondered where it had gone, it was way too slow so maybe the viewing figures were too low

KnickerlessParsons · 16/06/2024 12:48

We, all of a sudden, can't get the channel 4 catchup app thingy on our TV. When you click on it, it just says "oops something's gone wrong", so I can't watch the 4th episode 😩

mydogisthebest · 16/06/2024 15:06

As much as I like Keith this programme annoyed me. They did a little bit of one job then a little bit of another job, never seeming to finish anything.

I thought painting the container was a waste of time when they have so much work to do in the chapel. Also having that bath which they will need to keep carrying water to seems ridiculous.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2024 15:41

Why didn't they just pitch a tent in the chapel rather than do the shipping container?

SoupDragon · 16/06/2024 15:42

I enjoyed it regardless. They are lovely and the chapel is an interesting building. Odd to have 4 episodes though.
