Looks like we need a new thread.

Poor Mac

Really need Jimmi to go back to The Mill.

It's a shame one of the older Mill patients isn't in. I'm sure someone would remember him as their GP

OpalGoose · 03/09/2024 14:29

Just found this thread, thank you to whoever started it. I am watching today's episode on the iPlayer and was pleased to see Mac back but such a sad storyline.

doctorsnoddy · 03/09/2024 14:31

I've just remembered it was exactly 34 years since I started as a GP partner. Thankfully I have not yet wandered back into work having forgotten my name!

Allthehorsesintheworld · 03/09/2024 14:32

Did no one think to ask him to go through his pockets for ID? No one looked for a medi alert bracelet or necklace. Look in the car park for an unknown car and get Rob to trace reg number? Google Riverside med practice?

Raahh · 03/09/2024 14:42

I had a phone call (bad timing) so had this on in the back ground and missed most of it- poor Mac. It's nice they have brought him back, but it is sad.

Mac was the main GP at the practice called Riverside. He was married to Kate who was the practice manager and they had a son called Ciaran. That was quite a big storyline as he didn’t really want to be a Dad again as he had three adult children with his ex wife.

Kate had an affair with a priest and they divorced. He then remarried his ex wife Julia, who we saw a few years ago when she came to see Jimmi when he was released from jail (she was played by Diane Keen). She then became practice manager.

Some of his storylines showed him as an alcoholic, he also had a heart attack and was seen as being quite stubborn and stuck in his ways which led to the break up of the Riverside partnership.

Thank you!

Yes, thank you for the back story, which was before my time. It's nice to have an actual relevant story rather than a stand alone episode.

Ah you see, Doctors first started just before my youngest son was born in 2000 and it always coincided with nap time for him over the next few years, and then just before school pick up for him and his brother as time went on 😂

I’ve been watching all the old ones was too young and hip the first time on U drama. They are all available on catch up, I’ve really really enjoyed them.

i also get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing my beloved late grandmother would settle down with a tea after lunch to watch it.

Thenewbohemians · 03/09/2024 19:49

I've been watching the old ones too. The storylines were a bit more realistic then, I think, and the settings too - everything a bit dark and grubby, rather than the show homes everyone seems to live in regardless of social status in the recent series.

Hoping Diane Keen pops up to take Mac home.

Cattyisbatty · 03/09/2024 20:09

That was a sad episode today - poor Mac. I just about remember him from when my DC were little 😆
He had that little book - maybe that details where he lives etc.

CHRISTOPHER TIMOTHY is nearly 84 years old!!!!

Also, his IMDb does not mention tomorrow Doctors episode or whether he is coming back as Mac or another character

I’m an old bugger and remember him from All Creatures Great and Small - the original version!

OCaledonia · 03/09/2024 20:24

@Cattyisbatty old bugger here, too. I loved him in All Creatures Great and Small. I devoured all the books when I was a teen and in this case the TV show was a credit to the author's work.
I liked the refreshed series but dislike the new Helen, doesn't fit with my idea.

OCaledonia · 03/09/2024 20:27

Anyway, back to Mac. Why they didn't ask to see his wallet is beyond me.
I found an elderly lady wandering by my house a few years ago, I brought her inside and asked her permission to look through her bag for clues. Bless her heart, she was clearly suffering severe memory loss. I managed to get her home and contacted her son, she had his phone number written by her landline.

Yes definitely more realistic. I’ve found the difference ways story lines are approached really interesting, like racism and trans ones. It’s been interesting also seeing the decline of service, with home visits and doctors having the time to cover more than one thing.

Kirsty looked murderous- I think she should put in a complaint.
