Just got back from a week’s annual leave where I had time to read the weekend papers properly and make notes of all the new TV series that look good. There is so much to get through.

Anyone got any comments on / reviews of the following?

Mary & George - started watching… Okay so far. Suspect I may be a bit of a prude.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - love it. Will be v sad when series ends.

Passenger - ?

The Regime - new Kate Winslet drama.

A Gentleman in Moscow - the book is one of my favourites.

Shogun - currently watching, slow burn but now really enjoying it.

3 Body Problem - from makers of Game of Thrones.

Renegade Nell - new Sally Wainwright drama. Thinking of watching with kids (12 yo DD and DS)

The Artful Dodger - started watching a few weeks ago and forgot about it. May pick it back up again…

Traces - ?

Under the Banner of Heaven - ?

Dare I ask…am I missing any? We don’t have Apple TV.

I feel the same. I got rid of Netflix and just have Amazon prime but to be honest haven't looked at it in weeks as I can't even get through all the programmes on terrestrial TV!

purpleme12 · 05/04/2024 17:43

Passenger is good so far. Watched 4 episodes.

Traces is good. Only watched the first episode. But the first series was good as well of course

namechange1986 · 05/04/2024 21:25

This is the thread I need tonight!

Can't decide what to watch. Have started Under the Banner of Heaven, but think it might be a bit dark for a Friday night.

PuppyMonkey · 05/04/2024 21:33

Renegade Nell a bit too family fare for me but if I had younger kids would watch with them.

Mary & George - I thought that was Apple?

Under Banner of Heaven - saw it on Paramount last year, it’s ok, but slow.

3 Body Problem - loved it, amazing.

Shogun - amazing.

Next on my list is Ripley on Netflix (new version of Talented Mr …)

spiderlight · 05/04/2024 21:42

I've just finished Traces. The last four episodes were better than the first two.

MissyB1 · 05/04/2024 21:46

Loved under the banner of heaven. Gave up on passenger because it was a bit too silly. Currently watching The Twelve on ITVx, love it! It’s about a jury on a missing girl case, the aunt is accused of murder.

Mumteedum · 05/04/2024 21:47

@PuppyMonkey I'm on episode 5 of Ripley. It's slow but intense. It's very cinematic. Deserves a thread of it's own I think!

DonQ · 05/04/2024 21:52

Mary & George is available on Now.

Think I will try 3 Body Problem next and Renegade Nell with the kids!

Ripley sounds good too.

@Mumteedum ooh, I’m saving it til next week. Start your own thread! I’ll join in…

Honestly OP, I’m a bit a cross that there’s only one season of 3 Body Problem so far - I need more! Grin

Jewelanemone · 05/04/2024 22:07

Cross Passengers off your list. Utter tripe. Shame, as it had so much promise.

The problem I'm having is that I've watched so many of them that have turned out to be utter shite - Love Rat and The Gone being the most recent. They're either full of plot holes or stuff that just isn't resolved or have totally underwhelming reveals at the end.

I'm fed up investing hours of my life thinking they'll get better then they don't.
I know watch a lot of true crime instead.

Felt the same about 3 Body Problem. About half way in, I realised that it was complete nonsense and couldn’t wait for it to finish.

Anyway…looking forward to Wisting and series 2 of Blue Lights…

The Cleaning Lady is good

nebulae · 15/04/2024 20:42

I thought Traces was dreadful. Some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time. My other half really enjoyed it though so I bit my tongue.

TheChosenTwo · 15/04/2024 20:46

Most of the stuff I’ve watched recently has been so shit I gave up after two episodes but I’m hard to please!
Having said that, none of the things I’ve seen feature in your original list so I can’t comment on those. Just merely bleating on about how crap telly is at the moment 😂

Tinybigtanya · 15/04/2024 20:59

Ripley for arty depth, Curb for light relief.

Blythe1973 · 15/04/2024 21:02

Has anyone seen 'blue lights' it's in IPlayer I think. My mother is saying it's absolutely brilliant. I've not watched any of the series though..

RaraRachael · 15/04/2024 21:07

We watched the first series of Traces but it was so long ago that I'd have to rewatch the first series to remind myself what it was all about,

I thought the Cleaning Lady had about 6 episodes then found it that series 1 has 10, then there are 2 more series of 9 episodes. Don't know how they're going to spin it out that long.

Also looking forward to Wisting.

Ellerby83 · 15/04/2024 21:10

I've just finished watching the The Dropout on iPlayer. Was very good it's about the rise and and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her medical company. A bit like Inventing Anna.

MissyB1 · 15/04/2024 21:28

Just finished the second series of Traces, it was good, better than the first.

Yes I've seen Blue Lights. I wouldn't say it was brilliant but it was good, definitely worth a watch.

burnoutbabe · 15/04/2024 21:34

I enjoyed traces 1&2.
M
Passengers was rubbish. Gave up after episode 2

Fallout I love but I live the games. I also don't feel an urge to binge it.

3 body problems was okay. Just felt lacking at the end and a bit "is that it"

RaraRachael · 15/04/2024 22:02

Is the new series of Traces the third one as I seem to only remember seeing one prior to this?
