Just got back from a week’s annual leave where I had time to read the weekend papers properly and make notes of all the new TV series that look good. There is so much to get through.

Anyone got any comments on / reviews of the following?

Mary & George - started watching… Okay so far. Suspect I may be a bit of a prude.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - love it. Will be v sad when series ends.

Passenger - ?

The Regime - new Kate Winslet drama.

A Gentleman in Moscow - the book is one of my favourites.

Shogun - currently watching, slow burn but now really enjoying it.

3 Body Problem - from makers of Game of Thrones.

Renegade Nell - new Sally Wainwright drama. Thinking of watching with kids (12 yo DD and DS)

The Artful Dodger - started watching a few weeks ago and forgot about it. May pick it back up again…

Traces - ?

Under the Banner of Heaven - ?

Dare I ask…am I missing any? We don’t have Apple TV.

Has anyone seen 'blue lights' it's in IPlayer I think. My mother is saying it's absolutely brilliant. I've not watched any of the series though..

Just started the second series last night, so far so good. You should watch the first series though.

Is the new series of Traces the third one as I seem to only remember seeing one prior to this?

No, it's the second.

OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart · 16/04/2024 12:33

What's going on with Traces? I gave up after the 2nd episode but DP is still watching and he says it's got much better. Is it worth going back?

spiderlight · 16/04/2024 14:24

The last four episodes of Traces are much better than the first two. I nearly gave up, but there's a distinct switch in focus and it gets a lot more interesting.

Massive switch in focus! Yes definitely gets better.

Is anyone else watching Tree on a Hill?

Willmafrockfit · 22/04/2024 05:29

i agree there is so much
havent finished Passengers
or our Town
but have watched two episodes of Ripley, which is beautiful
seen a couple of Drop Out which is good
was side tracked by Baby Reindeer, which i found fantastic.
I am not sure about Blue Lights, series 1 was good though

leafybrew · 22/04/2024 05:44

Loved Ripley - I'd enjoyed the book and the Matt Damon film before, but this put a different spin on it. Best thing Netflix has done IMHO

Baby Reindeer was good, but quite harrowing. Not easy viewing.

I liked the Cleaning Lady.

Looks like I've got some watching to catch up with from this thread though!

DonQ · 22/04/2024 12:09

Right, definitely adding Ripley and Baby Reindeer to my list!

Finished watching Fallout. Really enjoyed it; it’s something a bit different; inventive and fun. Not as good as The Last of Us though.

Still really enjoying Shogun; think there is only one episode left??

Am binging Blue Lights Series 2 which I think is absolutely excellent. Brilliant characters; fantastic writing and acting.

Favourite series this year? One Day.

Biggest disappointment? The latest True Detective. I don’t think the weekly release date did it any favours; it disrupted the flow and build up of atmosphere.

Currently watching latest Wisting for a dose of Scandi noir (along with Shogun and Blue Lights…and reading Soldier Sailor so there is a lot of drama in my head at the moment).

I don't know what I think of Baby Reindeer. I think there's a lot of genre bending lately and it doesn't always sit right with me. It comes across as if it's going to be funny. But it's really not. It's really dark and full on. It's been compared to I may destroy you but I think that was much cleverer.

My feeling is Baby Reindeer probably works well as a book or even a stage show ( not sure what the original format was) but I don't think it's quite right somehow as TV. The tone is off. But I find this frequently now. I think it's the difference between my gen and the next perhaps.

My son loves this.

Willmafrockfit · 22/04/2024 14:06

also loved one Day @DonQ

spiderlight · 22/04/2024 17:06

I watched the first three eps of Baby Reindeer yesterday - found it much darker and more disturbing than I'd anticipated, and am now kicking myself because this thread has reminded me that I should have watched Ripley instead! I'm going to have to finish it though because it was very very good....just very harrowing as well.
