IwantToRetire · 18/03/2024 17:03

Has anyone else been watching via iPlayer rather than waiting for week by week broad cast.

I was goint to do this, but was so bored halfway through episode 3 I sort of gave up.

Maybe it picks up towards the end?!

Not helped but what seems very muffled recording of voices. Dont they check before broadcasting? Cant be that difficult to get cast back in to over dub.

It was on RTE1 ( an Irish tv channel ) a couple of months back.
We use subtitles because so many actors mumble or the background music is too loud and intrusive Angry

Optimist1 · 18/03/2024 19:03

I engaged with this quickly and binged all 6 episodes. I enjoyed the plot, scenery and characters but am somewhat bemused by the ending. In case you don't want spoilers on this thread I won't say more, but hope to discuss soon!

Optimist1 · 18/03/2024 19:06

Doh! Just saw this is a spoilers thread... in which case who did Aileen encounter in the cabin in the mountains? What actually happened to Diana's mother?

Do you reckon there'll be a second series?

IwantToRetire · 18/03/2024 19:51

I did put spoilers in the title, but wasn't even sure anyone would have watched all 6 episodes.

But I think if anyone has got through all and wants to talk about plot please do. There is a week by week thread.

Could always head your post Spolier!

I just wasn't sure why I found it so boring and was interested if others had thought it worth persevering.

PS Most endings seem out of step with the main plot / characters. Maybe it is because it is all about leaving it open to another series.

Ooh this looks right up my street, tempted to give this a go! I prefer spoiler threads personally, tv paced ones are too slow for me, I lose interest 😂

Jenesaisquoiii · 18/03/2024 23:10

Hiya IWantToRetire, what does "Could always head your post Spolier" mean?
Are you saying the heading should be spolier? How come lol?
possible blonde moment

Have just googled and there is a season 2 in filming. Yay!
I'm thinking it is Buster. The blurry person looked tattooed and the way they moved was like they were a big person waddling.
He was obsessed with birds right...
He kills the foreign kids but tries to save the Maori ones and look like the wholesome good guy?
Or was it Wiki and she left Diana's Mother's corpse (with the Maori necklace) on the floor indoors, never to have a proper funeral parade etc, to be with the ancestors?
Did the prison guy know anything for real?
The car Aileen used looked familiar. In another scene maybe.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/03/2024 23:51

I have only seen the first episode, I don't think I could be arsed watching another episode. I kept shouting at the TV the Irish copper was just so annoying

This comes from other threads for those that cant be bothered to wait for week by week, everyone is watching at different speed ie some have finished, some half way through.

So at the top of you posting something just started saying

Spoiler for anyone who has only watched first 2 (or 3).

Just being polite. Not compulsory. Halo

Ok I want to know who it is now, what an annoying ending.

I had my suspicions about the Doctor for some reason.

And why did the guy who killed himself have a box with bones in as well? Is it some sort of cult?

Optimist1 · 19/03/2024 08:05

@Jenesaisquoiii that's good news about a second series.

I do hope it wasn't Wiki or Buster! Of the two, it would make sense for it to be Wiki, but I think Aileen's reaction when she recognised the person would have been different (more puzzled than anything - she had been pally with Wiki).

LadyEloise1 · 19/03/2024 09:50

To be honest @Jenesaisquoiii I don't know who it is at the end.
Looking forward to Series 2 to find out.
I just hope it won't be a damp squib.

The Tourist Series 2 on BBC1 was awful. Not a patch on Series1

tennissquare · 19/03/2024 21:36

Just finished episode 6 on iPlayer. I really enjoyed it and also look forward to series 2.

Starlamo · 20/03/2024 11:26

Spoiler !!!
Confused by episode 6 .Dead goat with necklace ,who was Pastors Uncle ? And is it the Irish connection as Fallon said he was buying up property ,does he own the shack and did he send the message? Doesn’t answer the chicken bones though.
Roll on series 2.

dancerdog · 20/03/2024 21:04

Can anyone please explain what Buster's secret was re Diane's mother? Couldn't hear it. Oh and maybe add 'spoiler alert' to your response just in case!

clarrylove · 20/03/2024 21:07

Really struggling with hearing the dialogue. I don't get what happened with Diana's mum and Buster either. Were they incestuous?

Starlamo · 20/03/2024 22:10

Spoiler!!
re Buster and Diana’s mother - they had an affair ,that’s why he told her he wasn’t her father. I had to watch with subtitles.

dancerdog · 20/03/2024 23:44

Thanks!

IwantToRetire · 21/03/2024 17:34

Ok have now at last watched all.

Was not really engaged by it and had real difficulty with dialogue being at different levels etc..

So obviously for anyone who hasn't finished this will be a spoiler post!

So I think I understood most of it by the end, ie sister and brother just copy catted earlier murders to try and cover up what had happened.

But the original murders then seem to be some sort of group effort ie the man who hanged himself had "trophies" and some were found right at the end in the abandoned house.

Or did I misunderstand.

And in a number of scenes we saw a car usually filmed from low down, and always with music playing which I assume is the person who appeared in the abandoned house.

Was there ever any hint who that was? It cant be the man of the boy who died from heart failure because he was in jail, but he handed the photo to the journalist. So if it was a gang it seems there must have been quite a few of them. (At one time I started to think the Sargeant was part of it!)

Is a second series confirmed? Really good ploy to end on such a cliff hanger, because unless the first series had been a total washout, of course viewers and can ask for more!

I thought Acushla-Tara Kupe was really good as Diana. (I had to look up her name and its says she is one of a triplet!)

I thought the Richter character really boring and the added "drama" of a newly discovered health problem just silly.

Why cant detective just be ordinary people having to do difficult jobs?

I wonder what the Maori community thought of this.

Have just binged watched this. I still think it is the quiet, unassuming police officer.

musthorse · 22/03/2024 21:07

@Jenesaisquoiii I agree with you about Buster.

Onedayatatime22 · 23/03/2024 20:08

Binged this today - such an annoying ending.

Taylor60 · 24/03/2024 14:12

Just watched all of The gone and loved it but the ending? Whose the killer and what happened to her mum? Does series 2carry this on? I’m confused I need too know !

Jenesaisquoiii · 24/03/2024 15:47

I'm all confused... whilst internet and one youtube video mention that the season 2 is in the works... my Mum's just said she saw in a tele book today a mention of season 2's first episode.
Sometimes she gets stuff wrong, I thought she'd just read something talking about the scheduled bbc tv installments of season 1, but she said it talks about Aileen being missing and Richter enlisting Irish guys to help...
Intrigued!!! I'll be checking this out when I'm next in the supermarket magazine aisle.
