Anyone interested in the build up this year? I have been more aware this year as the songs are announced. I like Croatia, Ireland and Finland. Dizzy is hopefully going to do well which makes it exciting - Olli Alexander should be good performing live and he is well known in Europe.

Just reading about the controversy with Israel’s entry and I see that Iceland might send a Palastinian singer.

Ukraine have been the favourites for a while but Croatia is just ahead of them now.

I can't say a bad word against King Johnny, sorry 😅It would have been great if Loreen had joined him though.

Does everyone think that Israel is certain to go though on televoting alone on Thursday? The song and performance is OK (though not my cup of tea) if the singer Eden Golan sticks to the agreed words, but I think the vocal range is going to be tricky live and the dance choreography is jarring, as is Golan's bandage dress.

Amusing(ish) snippet this morning: the Jerusalem Post (ex-pat fave in the region) is reporting that Olly Alexander didn't get through to the final. I don't think the reporter who watched last night's semifinal understands the rules and how the voting works! Hopefully it'll be corrected soon.

I'm not convinced Israel will go through tbh. The rehearsal was a bit meh and I think there will be a backlash. Tbh I think it probably will be good for everyone if that's the case.

Douzepoints · 08/05/2024 09:49

I agree, Israel are unlikely to make it. It's a shame for Eden on an individual level but failure to qualify would be for the best.

I also wanted to say that I love the Rylan/Scott presenting combo and hope that when Graham Norton hangs up his technicolour eurovision coat, the BBC are brave enough to give the gig to them as a double act. They both clearly love it and bounce off each other brilliantly. It would be a shame for one to lose out on the main gig. I do get the impression that Graham's heart isn't in it so much these days.

I thought Olly did so well last night. Visually I think the only thing I saw last night with a similarity is Sweden. I really do think he will do well although judging on the comments I have seen online it is very devisive.

Croatia absolutely smashed it, and I really do think they will win. Also thought Ireland was great, so atmospheric and Bambie nailed the vocal and performance. I wouldn't be surprised to see this finishing top 5. Also really enjoyed by Portugal, Lithuania and Slovenia.

Sad that Moldova didn't go through! I thought she sang so beautifully and the staging was also a nice contrast to some of the really dark staging favoured by other artists.

Looking forward to the next semi - I think Norway will be the ones to watch there. I like the Swiss song but its just not one of my favourites (even though it's extremely popular).

#Eurovision 2024: Käärijä Revealed as Semi-Final Two Interval Act

Omg! I'm HAPPY.

Excellent news. I know he's been pictured I Malmo and there were rumours about him appearing with Joost. Better as an interval act though. I'd love to see him and Loreen do a song swap but it's unlikely to happen 😂

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2024 14:35

Fuck Johnny Logan!

Douzepoints · 08/05/2024 14:41

😂😂

We really need Loreen to start songwriting so she can get behind at least two future winning song and truly be crowned as the very best of eurovision!

My mum is Irish so I can get away with my JL hate 😜

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2024 14:51

Saw this. Thought of you.

That BBC says that Eden Golan's confined to quarters i.e. the assigned hotel room (suite?) due to the 'heightened security' situation so I doubt it's a bundle of laughs all round for the Israeli contingent or indeed for the Swedish organisers.

Also I read that Israel issued a travel advisory a week ago (I think) advising Israelis to be cautious about attending Eurovision, so the Israeli fan base will probably be smaller than usual?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 08/05/2024 17:39

If Eden Golan (she should probably have changed her surname as well as the title and lyrics) goes out, they can always support Luxembourg.

Did anyone see the BBC account this morning?

Says Olly’s battery detached - I hadn’t even noticed!

He’s hurt himself as well, so he couldn’t do some of the routine as he intended. He’s really upset about his performance as it didn’t go well.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 08/05/2024 18:52

Looks like your theory about NL was right @RedToothBrush

I would make the worst crime witness ever. I didn't even notice Luxembourg's (rather superfluous imho) graphics until I watched it again the morning!

That's a bit of a relief tbh. I was disappointed to think that that was the best he could do. But it wasn't the dancing I was disappointed in.

Cross fingers he absolutely nails it on Friday and Saturday.

You can’t hear yourself very well when both your ear pieces have been partially pulled out, he normally wears a belly band based pack, not a trouser clip one as they aren’t as good at staying on.

Phew. Good reason to hope for him to shine later.

The Press Poll results for the first dress rehearsal of SF2 are in. We’re in for some surprises if they’re accurate

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2024 19:36

Press poll was different to the fan poll which came out after the live evening show which was closer to the result.

On my way back from the fan village. We've had a laugh but words can not explain just how bad the 'abba tribute' show was. It was so bad it got to hilarious.

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2024 19:37

The Netherlands wasn't supposed to do well with the jury.

OublietteBravo · 08/05/2024 19:38

I’m most surprised by Malta.

Am I right in thinking that the Netherlands dress rehearsal deliberately withheld some of the flashy elements saved for the live shows?

Sandytoxic · 08/05/2024 19:49

yes im surprised that malta might qualify, its in my forgettable list this year.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 08/05/2024 20:04

I had to look up Malta. They are not on my favourites list.
