I have started watching lost, I have made it to season 4 but I have no idea what’s going on & it’s just so weird/confusing? Is it worth carrying on? Or am I just going to get to the end and be as equally confused?

I don’t know I gave up Grin

I can’t even remember what season I gave up on but it just got so confusing and I just couldn’t be bothered to work it all out when I already knew the ending. So I gave up.

I sometimes go back and try again every now and then but I’ve still never made it to the end

RunningAndSinging · 08/01/2024 13:02

I loved the first season but don’t think I got
far after that. Must be around 17 years ago I watched that.

Scrantonicity2 · 08/01/2024 13:09

I was obsessed with it
Read all the online theories, forgave the crap boring episodes, read loads into inconsequential stuff, was sure they'd explain it all in the end.

They didn't, it was a boring nonsensical copout but it was a fun ride. I seem to recall they introduced a bunch of new characters in the final series which was just too much.

its2024 · 08/01/2024 13:09

No give up now, you'll only be disappointed with the ending so don't put yourself through anymore.

BotherThat · 08/01/2024 13:11

Stop now. I’m still furious about the time I sunk in to it for the shittiest ending ever.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 08/01/2024 13:12

Don't do it to yourself

BroccoliHighkicks · 08/01/2024 13:14

I loved the first series too, gave up and then watched the final episode for closure! 😁

FortyFacedFuckers · 08/01/2024 13:16

Thank you all, it seems I can happily give up without missing anything then! I really struggled for the last couple of seasons but kept thinking it would be worth it but seems not!!

on the back of this can anyone recommend anything better for me to watch?

AnImaginaryCat · 08/01/2024 13:18

I think it's worth it only if you are able to discuss theories with others.

By worth it I mean worth the disappointment at the end.

That's what me and DH say when people talk about Lost. 7 years wasted!

I think there are a lot of people who thought the end was shit but nobody comes up with an answer of what would have been better.

the first series was brilliant but after that it went a bit bonkers.

I don’t know if there could have been any ending that would have pleased everybody

SphincterSaysWhat · 08/01/2024 13:30

Stop now, Run, don't walk. Save yourself and thank us later.

I mean this, even thinking about it gives me rage.

skyeisthelimit · 08/01/2024 13:33

It was good, but it could have been so much better. There was too much left unexplained, and sideways stories and all sorts that just caused confusion.

I loved it, but the ending was just not worth the time.

The same writers did Once Upon A Time. That is a great show, but also very repetitive in its storylines, ie same thing, different day/place. A lot of Lost actors appear in it.

Have you watched Manifest?

shieldmaiden7 · 08/01/2024 13:35

I enjoyed it but the ending completely ruined it for me as I didn't have a bloody clue what was going on

NoWordForFluffy · 08/01/2024 13:35

I'm sure I heard that it was meant to be 3 series long, but the network wanted more series out of it, so it was extended to comply with this (i.e. lots more nonsense added in).

Then it ended up being a victim of the writers' strike, which affect 1 or 2 series.

I doubt the ending would've been different, but at least it would've meant less time incurred in getting to it, had it stuck to 3 series.

I do still like it though, despite the fucking shit ending! 🤣

JaneJeffer · 08/01/2024 13:44

Keep going! Lots of people don't understand the ending though!

Was it 7 years? I always think it was 4 years I 'lost' to Lost, but maybe you're right and it was worse than I thought. Time meant nothing then....

I've since read, and I think it seems like it may be true, that when British TV dramas get commissioned they are pitched with a general outline of a beginning, middle and end with character arcs. In the USA it's slightly different in that a pilot can get commissioned on an idea outlined much more vaguely, and if the pilot does well then the series is commissioned and they develop the story and characters as they go. Which makes me very wary of a lot of these types of shows now....TWD I'm looking at you...

AgentCooperdreamsofTibet · 08/01/2024 15:46

Going against the grain on this... I love Lost. I loved it from the first episode and watched it religiously in its original run. I've also rewatched three times since then. For me, it's one of the most groundbreaking and incredible TV shows of the past 25 years.

I'll admit though that it's not without fault and many of those faults occur in the final season, although not (IMO) in the actual final episode, which is simply beautiful.

My own opinion, and observations from various friends and colleagues at the time is that a lot of people gave up after the first season and then tuned into the final episode hoping for a series of reveals and revelations. Most of the answers are revealed as the series progresses, and many of them are fairly subtle in their reveal.

All things considered, I have to say that if you are already on season 4 (probably the best of the run, I think) and feel you've not yet had answers and not sure if you should keep going, then you should probably stop. I'd always recommend Lost as a series worth trying though.

(tried to give opinions here without spoilers)

brinw · 08/01/2024 15:52

I loved elements of Lost. It was pure escapism and had some good discussion about it at the time. The flash sideways episodes, towards the end, might be confusing so look out for those.

I thought at the time that the ending was a cop out. I don't think it's spoiler to say that it's all about people, love and fate. However, I'm not sure how else they could have ended it (I'd have rewritten a lot of the latter parts).

So I think it's worth watching.

loverrr · 08/01/2024 16:06

Yes please give up now, I lost days of my mat leave committing to this show and it's basically downhill from the first series with the last bit so ludicrous it was annoying

IwantToRetire · 08/01/2024 17:28

I had the strange experience of starting to watch Lost at the time it was first shown on UK tv (one of the main channels) and then it was only on obscure channels.

So at the time, although already getting a bit bored with the convenient reveals that totally changed the plot line still wanted to know how it ended.

Then by chance I got access to it through a 3 months free on (cant remember which streaming service) and started rewatching.

And found that because I had had the break and wasn't so invested in it, but enjoyed watching it for the ride without expectation of it making sense.

Some bits were rubbish, some bits were intriguing.

I made up my own mind about the ending but then read reviews from the time and it seems it that is was about something totally different. But as none of that had occured to me while watching I thought well that might be how they experience it, but I had a totallly different experience.

So I would suggest not to be too serious about it, and watch a few episodes when there isn't that much else you want to watch.

I find a lot of these futuristic, sci fi type series rarely make sense and are more enjoyable for the scenarios.

As they used to say, just go with the flow!!

Jessforless · 08/01/2024 17:31

The most frustrating ending ever. Still annoyed.

FortyFacedFuckers · 08/01/2024 18:10

Thanks all, lots of different opinions!!

Sawyer makes it worth watching. Oh but I preferred his old teeth! He got them done somewhere along the way.
