Royal Carols at Christmas

Dear me!

DS1 (9 in 5 days time) has just said 'These singers are awful!'. And he's right.

AdamLamber and Beverly Knight were terrible. Singing 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' - strange choice. Not a carol. Two not great voices, especially his. No idea who he is really poor and odd.
Now Jacob Collier singing 'Last Christmas' is just bizarre- deep, very posh voice that suddenly becomes high and waily, strange phrasing. DH was chuckling all the way through it.

The choir is lovely but the other music is awful.

Where does Kate get that super-posh accent from- it's posher than William's.

Why is it almost all celebs? And most of them are utterly talentless and think they are nationally significant.

So there's an abbey full of people who have made a difference - NHS, charities etc- and the interviews are D list celebs sharing their 'words of wisdom'.

I’m watching on a slight delay and was very relieved to be able to fast forward through ‘Last Christmas’ - very odd choice!!

Freya Ridings- again, no idea who she is but what a terrible voice and bizarre performance. She sounds slurred and is screwing her face up - looks in pain.

The choirs have been amazing. Every other singer has been terrible. I don't know who the guy singing Last Christmas was but he murdered it.

100% agree. Stick to the carols!! Pop Christmas songs aren’t meant to be this slow and each one has been murdered by the singer trying to make it ‘soulful’ - they aren’t soulful! They are pop songs with lyrics to match that just sound wrong and out of place shoehorned in between religious carols in a cathedral!

I've never watched it before and certainly won't again. I'd rather have a traditional carol concert than this.

It needs more of the stories and thank yous of real people, absolutely no celebs performing in any way- musically or verbally- and more carols.

I'm beginning to find Kate very dull and irritating.

They get me down. They play stuff like it in the supermarkets. I don't think they have the ability to sing more than two seconds on one note so they have to warble around.

Our local youth choir were on radio 4 earlier today singing a recently unearthed
Christmas carol.

Wow! That is a lovely performance of a beautiful song.

@RampantIvy I left DH- who comes from Bradford and whose Grandma comes from Barnsley- watching that performance after he'd chuckled his way in despair and horror through Royal Carols. I came back to him looking quite emotional. Says it was 'fantastic'. Made him proud of home.

Given the number of pop stars in the congregation would have expected the carols to sound better.

It was the opposite for me. The sermon was quite touching.

Glad I recorded it so I could fast forward. Dire solos and duets. Choir good though. Less of the Kemp's now please. Was nice to see Sheila Hancock though.

Honestly DH and I couldn't stop laughing at the posh one singing Last Xmas. Every single karaoke can manage better than he did. She could have got almost anybody, why choose that posh one who can't sing?
