Royal Carols at Christmas

Dear me!

DS1 (9 in 5 days time) has just said 'These singers are awful!'. And he's right.

AdamLamber and Beverly Knight were terrible. Singing 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' - strange choice. Not a carol. Two not great voices, especially his. No idea who he is really poor and odd.
Now Jacob Collier singing 'Last Christmas' is just bizarre- deep, very posh voice that suddenly becomes high and waily, strange phrasing. DH was chuckling all the way through it.

The choir is lovely but the other music is awful.

Where does Kate get that super-posh accent from- it's posher than William's.

I know they completely murdered some Christmas classics.
Kate is so much ‘posher’ than William, how can that be?

Dillane · 24/12/2023 21:57

Forgot to add the beautiful choir were the saving Grace.

Redglitter · 24/12/2023 21:58

George & Charlotte do well sitting so well behaved through this kind of thing. They must be so bored.

stepintochristmas1 · 24/12/2023 22:01

Well I'm not a celeb type person so I only knew Shirlie . What was the point why no real people unless there was any? I don't know . Maybe should've had Shaky there everyone knows him .

But remember they spend alot of their lives doing boring things. They go to lots of church services and similar events, they probably do more at their school too.

Sitting quietly throughout long, tedious events is part of being a royal.

Who was that woman in a red dress towards the end, it was awful.

FreshWinterMorning · 24/12/2023 22:15

LuluBlakey1 · 24/12/2023 20:56

I've never watched it before and certainly won't again. I'd rather have a traditional carol concert than this.

It needs more of the stories and thank yous of real people, absolutely no celebs performing in any way- musically or verbally- and more carols.

I'm beginning to find Kate very dull and irritating.

Ah ha, the real reason for the thread. ^ To have a go at Kate. First her 'much too posh voice' and now she is 'very dull and irritating.'

Nothing to see here, just an excuse to bash Kate.

Apparently she is called Freya Ridings- we've never heard of her. She was terrible. It's a hard call between her and the strange posh man singing the bizarre performance of 'Last Christmas' and Adam Lambert (no idea who he is either) and his waily, struggling to hit the notes version of 'Merry Little Christmas'

Not at all- I would, usually, be a bit of a Kate fan.

You seem very angry that there were a few 'posh' people on there @LuluBlakey1 How very odd. Do they make you feel insecure??? You already sound a bit jealous of Kate on this thread.

'A bit of a Kate fan.' I would hate to see what you said about her if you didn't like her. Wink

Oh stop being tiresome. You're looking for a pile on. Go away and have a drink and a squabble with someone at home.

I'm off to put the kettle on and listen to that lovely Bradford Youth Choir video again.

@LuluBlakey1 BYC are ranked 5th in the world. They are astonishingly good. There is a lot of musical talent in Barnsley.

ladygindiva · 24/12/2023 22:44

I loved it 😬

RobertaFirmino · 24/12/2023 22:52

WRT Adam Lambert, he is the man who Brian May and Roger Taylor chose to be Queen's current vocalist.

So even more credit for them sitting through another long boring event. Regardless of being Royal theyre still just 2 children at yet another grown up event.

One of our cats is now wailing at the man playing and singing 'White Christmas' .

I was cringing at the rendition but if I was a cat I would have been wailing too.

Tempo, key and volume were all abysmal. It should be sung as a warm, friendly, croony song (Bing Crosby) not a screechy falsetto.
As you can tell I thought most of the singing except the choirs was awful.

Me too, I think she’s great.

pickledandpuzzled · 25/12/2023 06:56

Freya looked like a thunderbird with the weird hand action and a dress that made her hands look unattached.
Adam Lambert was poor.

I loved Last Christmas- he’s a jazz musician, plays multiple instruments, plays with arrangements. I’d never heard of him but thought it was wonderful- he was using his voice as an instrument rather than just singing the song straight. He has a four octave range! He plays with sound. Just amazing, I’ll be looking out for more of his stuff. It’s like performance art only actually good 😆

GlitchStitch · 25/12/2023 07:06

Fun fact- Freya Ridings is the daughter of Daddy Pig (well his voice anyway!)

ItsHitTheFanNow · 25/12/2023 07:23

Adam Lambert was runner up on pop idol.

Which would suggest he's usually very good but not on this occasion.
