Am 2 episodes in.

Usually love anything about relationships including non traditional relationships, non-monogamy and also infidelity but am finding this a bit of a drag with the dual perspectives and the fact that no-one in it seems to be very likeable or even remotely relatable.

Plus the two brit leads with questionable american accents.

Imdb score is 7.9 which is making me question my first impression.

🤔

I would say not. It's been a long time since I watched it but it got pretty silly and the characters got even more unlikeable.

I agree with this unfortunately

Mumteedum · 21/12/2023 22:48

I watched it recently and I loved it. I would definitely stick with it. I liked that the characters were complex. Helen was my favourite.

GreatGateauxsby · 21/12/2023 22:48

No.

She's marginally less offensive than him but it was really a load of irritatingly acted claptrap

AreolaGrande · 21/12/2023 22:49

Oh dear. Thanks both. Think I'll bail after this ep. I was wary when I saw there were 5 seasons tbh.

My inner Pacey Witter fan is gutted 😩

If anyone has any recs for relationship based series please do recommend!

From my dim recollection - first series is fine; and then it goes dramatically downhill.

I think you'd be better off watching Dawson's Creek!

JudyGemstone · 21/12/2023 22:52

I really liked it. The characters are very relatable imo, it’s the most accurate tv representation of an affair I’ve ever seen. Very well observed. Am just rewatching it now.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 21/12/2023 22:52

I loved it until series 4

LinkedinLovely · 21/12/2023 22:57

Agree with everyone else, not worth it (apart from for JJ 😉)
If you haven't seen Love Life with Anna Kendrick, I really enjoyed that.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 21/12/2023 23:07

I thought it was utter tripe!

DustyMaiden · 21/12/2023 23:09

I liked the theme song. It made you think something more was coming. It never did.

AreolaGrande · 21/12/2023 23:26

Have binned it off.

I think part of my problem is that I've never found Dominic West to be either attractive or a good actor and then his dalliance with Lily James and his subsequent mortifying public reunion with his wife which featured this photo of him hiding from the paps has killed dead my ability to take him seriously.

@LinkedinLovely have watched that one. Also enjoyed Easy on Netflix, Sex/Life (😳), You Me Her, Mistresses, Doctor Foster etc

Recommend "The Split" on iPlayer if you like a relationship drama

NoKateMoss · 22/12/2023 04:12

This Is Us on Amazon Prime is the ultimate relationship drama.

Netaporter · 22/12/2023 04:30

I enjoyed The Affair because I enjoyed the replaying of the same scenes/scenarios from the different perspectives.

I agree that This is Us is one of the greatest shows of all time. I was genuinely bereft when it ended.

NoKateMoss · 22/12/2023 07:19

@Netaporter agreed, though I just went back and watched it all again. I highly recommend it.

OfMiceandWomen · 22/12/2023 07:26

I enjoyed it and loved the changing dynamics of the characters throughout.
The last episode was one of my favourite endings of a long running series.

Freysimo · 22/12/2023 07:35

It was OK until last series. I got fed up of seeing Dominic West's arse tbh.

I loved it! Binged the whole series on my first maternity leave!

Sockknitterg · 22/12/2023 08:07

I found it seedy and it made me feel a bit grubby.

Mangotango39 · 22/12/2023 08:08

I tried a few eps of this and couldn't get into it either!

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 22/12/2023 08:09

About eight years ago, I think I watched series 1 and 2, and possibly series 3. But j definitely didn’t watch the whole thing to a conclusion. I really liked it to start off with but it definitely lost its pull for me.

This Is Us is fantastic, I binge watched the whole thing save for the last series, which I watched as they were released.
