Good news: Season 3 of Slow Horses is now airing
Bad news: It's only available on Apple TV at the moment 🙁
I'll let the episodes build up and do a free Apple TV trial week to binge watch.

OP posts:

I have watched the first two episodes and it is shaping up to be an excellent series.

Duh · 30/11/2023 05:15

I watched the first two episodes and loved it, some of the one liner insults had me laughing out loud. Excellent script.

youngestisapsycho · 01/12/2023 20:36

I just finished episode 2 and was all settled for 3… but it’s a weekly release 😞

APurpleSquirrel · 01/12/2023 23:28

Yep, watched the first two episodes & then found it was a weekly release. It's good so far. Gary Oldman is amazing - been watching Harry Potter with DC & Sirius & Jackson are so polar opposites, very good actor.

RADIOOFF · 13/12/2023 16:38

Well, this is annoying …

(The fact that there’s almost no one here is merely - weird.)

Ep 4 ends on such an almighty cliffhanger I had no choice but to immediately download the book to my phone kindle. Scrolled. Scrolled … But it’s so different! Not quite sure what to do with myself now. I’ll be invested in two strangely different stories - with no idea if they eventually end up in the same place …

But the TV show just gets better and better and better …

CMOTDibbler · 13/12/2023 16:40

I love the books, and really enjoyed series 1 - doing the free week trial next week to binge watch series 2 and 3

LividSleep · 13/12/2023 16:40

I’m raging about the weekly release because I’ll have to pay for more Apple and I want to binge, not have to wait. No patience.

About to watch today’s. Have read the book and it’s already v different.

1975wasthebest · 13/12/2023 16:47

The weekly release thing also pisses me off. I'm waiting until the end of the month until they're all there and I can try and get a free trial.

AlisonDonut · 13/12/2023 16:49

We are waiting til the end too. Can't wait.

Netaporter · 13/12/2023 19:20

@RADIOOFF I was just thinking the same today. This series is the best and most compelling by far. Loving Dame Ingrid and her look. Sophie O is just the best actor Isn’t she? And I love Gary O. Fantastic.

RADIOOFF · 13/12/2023 20:09

I agree the actors are good - but I’m finding the (TV) plot so intriguing.

Also, trying not to spoil - I like the more even tone now. Previously found one or two characters slightly less convincing, so I don’t miss them. 🤐

mondaytosunday · 13/12/2023 20:46

Oooo thanks for the heads up! Love the books and the show!

Duh · 13/12/2023 21:17

I am loving it though what has slightly disturbed me is realising that the actor who plays River looks like a good looking relative of Simon Pegg.

SnowBrussels · 13/12/2023 21:30

Waiting to binge it over Christmas. Very curious to see how it differs from the book.

beguilingeyes · 14/12/2023 11:33

It's so incredibly good. I still can't get over the fact that Jack Lowden is Scottish. His accent is flawless. Rosalind Eleazar (Louisa) walked past me in a tube station last week and by the time I realised who it was she was gone.

mondaytosunday · 14/12/2023 11:48

You can't possibly be pissed off about the weekly release! That's the whole point of free trails - do you think it should be free? Why?

RADIOOFF · 14/12/2023 12:01

Yes! On one of the little extra behind the scenes things on Apple TV he’s speaking in his own accent - and suddenly seems like a different person, much lighter than his SH character.

If I can watch something legitimately for free, as I plan to with this season, why would I pay? I would be an idiot to pay instead.

Netaporter · 14/12/2023 16:49

@1975wasthebest well at least there are idiots like me who do pay every month so that the content providers can afford to continue to make the programmes that you enjoy but only want to watch ‘when they are free’….🤨

KatBurglar · 14/12/2023 16:54

Jack Lowden is so charismatic! I feel protectively fond of River.

Which given how revolting Jackson Lamb is - and Gary Oldman does a magnificent job - comes as a blessed relief.

RADIOOFF · 15/12/2023 09:52

Man alive! (You’re probably all too young to have heard that expression.) But we have a treat coming with the next season. Dependent, I suppose, on the exact nature and degree of adaptation.

Finished Real Tigers, the novel, thoroughly addicted and needing more. Youtube threw up some videos of Gary Oldman and Saskia Reeves talking about prospective adaptations / seasons, and she said she particularly liked Spook Street. (Obvs she would say that - it’s the next book, so coming TV show.)

Kindled it. My God - Mick Herron had really got into his stride with this one. I love it when a book requires more attention than one initially anticipates. It is quite brilliantly written.

Not quite halfway through, but I’m neglecting all my day’s chores …

beguilingeyes · 15/12/2023 13:20

I'm trying not to read ahead and get spoiled. I just want it to go on forever.

2023usernameNew · 16/12/2023 10:52

I’m not enjoying the weekly release either.

the episodes go by so quickly and I feel it’s moving too slowly.

I hate the two ‘Park’ agents, especially the more thugy one, I find him a ridiculously cliched character.

Oh season 4 will be magnificent won't it? I read the book without breathing I'm sure Grin I cannot wait (and will be subscribing once my free trial has finished).

I'm not so keen on Dame Ingrid, though SO is a fabulous actor. Love Standish though - actor is perfect. As is GO and JL - didn't know JL was Scottish!

RADIOOFF · 16/12/2023 13:26

Finished Spook Street novel last night. Epically magnificent all the way through.

Inevitably I’m finding the next one - London Rules - a bit harder to get into, though the opening chapter is … well … let’s say it needs to be read twice. Horribly impressive. They won’t be able to replicate that on screen.

I think I could watch an entire season of just Catherine Standish. Being unspeakably brilliant.

And Jackson Lamb oozing care and love for his underlings is just mesmerising. I could easily do without Mick Herron’s insistence on his flatulence - but he’s such a wonderful, wonderful character.
