The BBC has acquired the thrilling Irish crime drama KIN, an eight-part series produced by BRON Studios (Joker) and Headline Pictures (The Man in the High Castle), from FIFTH SEASON for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The drama's cast is led by Clare Dunne (Herself), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), Sam Keeley (The Cured), Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Outlander) and newcomer Yasmin Seky.

A boy is killed and his family embarks on a gangland war with an international cartel: a war that is impossible to win.

The Kinsellas are a local crime family, while the Cunningham cartel is a vast global organisation. It is David and Goliath.

Out-numbered, out-financed and out-gunned, the Kinsellas find themselves holed up in their Dublin stronghold while their businesses fail, and family members and associates are picked off.

But they have something the cartel does not: the unbreakable bonds of blood and family. They are kin.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “Anchored by a tremendous cast, Kin is a powerful and intense story of love, grief, family and crime, and its devastating ramifications.”

😭😭😭😭Just finished the end of Season 2. I’m in Ireland and didn’t watch Season 1 first time round as I thought it’d be like Love Hate (which I couldn’t take to), so I recorded Season 2 when it was being shown here and caught up on Season 1 on RTE player. I was sparing Season 2 but have now just watched the last episode. I’m a bit envious of you all watching it from the start!

Lovewine1975 · 05/12/2023 09:23

I've finished it and its brilliant, the final episode is just wow!! I had just watched Top Boy and was looking for something to fill the gap and this certainly did, bring on season 2!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/12/2023 09:35

I can't wait for 7&8 tonight

I was omg at what happened in 6

@Procrastination4
Is Kin not like Love/Hate ?

Procrastination4 · 05/12/2023 19:27

@Scaredycatofrodents I tried to watch an episode or two of Love Hate but the viciousness of parts of it really turned me off. While there’s violence in Kin, I didn’t find it as bad and I also preferred the storyline, the acting (and the actors!). Perhaps I didn’t give Love Hate enough of a chance though.

Jellykat · 05/12/2023 23:02

I'm on 7 real time, its one helluva mess!

foxlover47 · 06/12/2023 03:01

I loved it , I really hope they show season2 soon.
I binge watched Love/Hate, the first few episodes I wasn't sure but I stuck with it and really liked it as weird as it was

TitsInAbsentia · 07/12/2023 09:25

Jellykat · 07/12/2023 18:29

Quick question thats been bugging me..
What happened to the car dealership money laundering charge??
I remember the female solicitor telling Amanda it was not looking good, but i missed how it was resolved, anyone know please?

martinisforeveryone · 07/12/2023 20:15

The money laundering hasn't been resolved as end of series 1 has it?

Must admit that I inadvertently watched ahead on iplayer but really didn't think I saw the series end at all and still remain a bit confused.

Jellykat · 07/12/2023 20:58

Ah thanks @martinisforeveryone .. so you reckon i didnt miss any resolution of the money laundering, fab
.. but not sure Amanda shouldve been quite so chuffed at the end. Yes she sorted a helluva lot, but she could still theoretically go down!

Just picked this up on the iplayer. I love a good crime drama and gangland thriller. But its relentlessly gloomy isn't it and they all swear too much.
And what's with Jimmy and his man bun and heavy beard ? Shouldn't successful gangsters have classic haircuts and stylish clothes ? The Kinsellas just look like a load of thugs.

Lovewine1975 · 08/12/2023 09:50

@Bigbadmama I agree that it was very gloomy they could of done with some humour in it to lighten it up a bit, even the landscape and skyline was constantly bleak and grey!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2023 21:19

The 3 bearded men. Took a while to work out which was whom

When is Series 2 on?

Freysimo · 09/12/2023 08:47

I'm up to episode 5 and enjoying it, but don't really understand the family dynamics. Jimmy and Michael are brothers, and Eric is Frank's son, I get. Is Frank Jimmy and Michael's uncle? Also thought Birdie was Frank's wife but is apparently his sister!
