Does anyone remember Gio just spinning off across the dance floor on his own to Bambeleo when he was partnered with Laura Whitmore? It always makes me laugh, but actually it shows how much he's grown as a pro that now he tries to showcase his partners rather than himself..

SequinsandStiIettos · 06/11/2023 22:04

It was priceless! Grin
Quick! Look over here!
Shock-awe distract technique - opposite of Ola and Kristina's maypole tactic.
Bless Joe. He got stick over it, same as Georgia's rumba.
Pirouetting into next week. Hilarious.

I know James Jordan is an...acquired taste but have put him on the videos thread as his 20 minute critiques of the judging do usually make sense. I know!

That made me howl when he did it. IIRC, she was struggling with an injured ankle so he just choreographed a bit at the end where he practically shoved her out of shot and did loads of 'aren't I amazing?' spins across the screen. Vintage Giovanni.

I've just watched this evening's ITT and I'm surprised that Bobby and Dianne (have the third highest cumulative marks of the series at 212, followed by Angela R and Kai (211), followed by Nigel and Katya (209).

Lakita have a total of 241 and Team Aubergine have 235. With a gap of over 20 between the next couple, they are without a doubt head and shoulders above the rest of the contestants.

I hadn't realised just how much judges were overscoring Angela R, and only this weekend she was getting more realistic marks.

I watched James Jordan's review of this week's dances, and even he suggested that dances have been cherry picked so that Angela R can cope with them.

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 01:47

Clearly James Jordan is reading the Mumsnet Strictly threads, just as Anton is watching James Jordan’s podcast.

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 01:57

I hadn't realised just how much judges were overscoring Angela R, and only this weekend she was getting more realistic marks.

The first week Angela R and Annabel had cha chas, and they got the same scores from the judges, even though Annabel’s had much faster and more complicated choreography. It certainly felt for the first few weeks that they were giving her extra points just for being 79, and although I have no wish to see her break a hip doing a jive, it’s looking suspiciously like the producers are giving her a very easy path to Blackpool.

Maybe, as the woman co-presenter said, there will be a public/voting backlash next week, and she will be in the dance-off again. Or the judges will put her top of the leaderboard in Operation Get Angela Rippon To Blackpool.

What stick did Gio get for Georgia's rumba? I don't remember that.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 07/11/2023 07:35

Watched JJ on video thread... he makes a very good point, especially about the disparity in the judges' scores and how they're suddenly all on the same page for every DO. It's obvious to everyone they're trying to keep rangela in for Blackpool... fair enough, as long as she puts in a better performance next week and a weaker dancer goes, but if she knocks out somebody better (again) that's not good.

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/11/2023 09:53

I really hope Angela S or even Nigel don't get knocked out in favour of getting Angela R to Blackpool.. I can see why they want to get her to Blackpool but agree shouldn't be taking the place of someone more deserving..

I've just rewatched that, that really made me laugh GrinGrinGrin it was so obvious those two hated each other!

MarkWithaC · 07/11/2023 11:21

Late to the party as I only watched it last night.
Loved Ellie and Vito. Proper old Hollywood, marabou feathers, Vito in his tails <<rubs thighs>>, jazzy bits, a proper song. Fabulous.
Nigel was better than he has been, but for an actor I wanted more smouldering and general tango attitude. Katya looked jaw-dropping and her choreo was terrific. Loved how when it was complimented she didn't do the false modesty thing, just nodded and went 'Yep.' Grin
Angela S gave it a good go but is too 'Irish', as she said, for a samba. I thought it was a rubbish song for a samba too though.
Angela R was a bit tame. Terrible dress, like Grayson Perry. I'm glad she's stayed though and I hope she does something wonderful next week.
Krishnan looked like a dad dancing and I didn't really know what they were meant to be doing. Oddly, I feel like his personality/journey/love of Strictly has come through better when he's done the conventional dances. Hope he gets a good one next week. Love him and Lauren and want them to get to Blackpool at least.
I REALLY warmed to Bobby this week. Thought the judges were harsh, and IMO a bit narrow in their idea of what an AT should be. The music didn't lend itself to a flowing, improvised feel but to a more stop-starty approach and delivery. Years ago Craig said the AT should feel like you're watching through a keyhole, and I thought they absolutely achieved that.
Annabel was great, I thought. Johannes is a beautiful soul. He looks after her so well.
Layton: I agree, all his dances look the same because he has such a strong personal style. I don't deny he has charisma when he dances, but I want more variety. Didn't like the song for a jive, either. Their AT will be good though, I think. And I do love Nikita doing an AT <<rubs thighs again>>
Adam a bit dull, although I agreed with Craig his acting and story were excellent. Rumba is tough though. He was very gracious and very sweet in his leaving speech.

StellaAndCrow · 07/11/2023 11:37

Yes, and Laura saying afterwards "Well done on your spins"!!

Just seen the dance choices..
Angela & Kai are doing a Paso to Madonna Hung Up.. interesting choice.. Hmm

DontBeAPrickDarren · 07/11/2023 12:21

Perhaps a tactical choice for Krishnan to get the couple’s choice out the way if he’s more comfortable in dances with rules/stricture.

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/11/2023 12:25

Nikita & Layton - AT to Tattoo by Loreen (Eurovision winner this year)

Nigel & Katya couple choice to Bruno Mars Just the way your are

Angela S & Carlos - Waltz With you I'm born again - Billy Preston & Syreeta

Annabelle & Johannes - Samba - Whenever Wherever Shakira

Ellie & Vito Rumba True Colours Candi Lauper

Bobby & Dianne - American smooth 5 seconds of summer - Ghost of you

Krishnan & Lauren - samba - Bambeleo Gypsy Kings

Angela R & Kai Paso - Hung Up Madonna

kazzaD66 · 07/11/2023 13:06

I remember Matt and Aliona dancing a great tango to Hung Up in the semis. It's what got them through to the final.

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 13:10

I LOVE that song, particularly the bass-y interlude, which I bet they don’t use for the dance.

I've just watched it back... I think I'd forgotten how good Matt Baker was, so thank you for reminding me!

sadsufferer2023 · 07/11/2023 14:06

I KNEW Angela R would get a paso. There's no way she would be getting a jive, samba or salsa and she is due a Latin.

I would lay money on her getting an American Smooth for Blackpool (if she gets through this week, that is).

But personally I think Annabel is toast

PantsToItAll · 07/11/2023 14:16

I’ve already made up my mind I’m voting for Annabel. Just need to decide if I’m giving her all 3 or giving Krishnan one also now. Not sue what their fan bases will be like. I’m always getting kids to sleep when it’s on live so I do the odd thing of voting then watching whole show later in evening. I know that’ll be frowned upon by some😬

I think it’s a swizz having them both doing samba which are difficult dances and score low. Producers know exactly what they want don’t they grrrr. I want Angela R out she should have gone last week and it feels like the dances are a fix this week.

xsquared · 07/11/2023 14:28

The paso is a very masculine dance, so no doubt Kai will be doing the heavy lifting.

I really hope Lakita don't try to throw in any acrobatic moves in their AT, and do a more traditional one instead. It would be such a waste as they have been handed the gift of the potentially showstopping dance of the night.

A Waltz doesn't scream exciting dance at wek 8, so I'm a bit worried for Angela S.

Faye and Gio did foxtrot or was it American Smooth to Just th way you are, and tbh I'm a bit worried for Nigel too.

Will there be a samba off between Annabelle and Krishnan?

Not frowned upon by me, each to his own and all that... but definitely a bid odd :) Does that mean you vote purely for your favourite slebs, regardless of how well they do on the night? Every year there'll be few I really like and vote for more than others, but if one of my favourites is a bit mediocre and someone I'm not generally so keen on does something amazing, I'll change it up.

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 15:03

@xsquared A Waltz doesn't scream exciting dance at week 8, so I'm a bit worried for Angela S.

It’s usually the waltzes that make me cry, and my tears translate into votes.

Something beautiful, simple and high scoring might keep her out of the bottom two, and I’m heartened by the fact voters kept her out of the dance-off last weekend. (Also heartened that Angela R didn’t have the public vote.)
