Anyone else looking forward to the new season starting on Wednesday? It will seem a bit strange without Perez but looks to be a good cast and storyline so far as we know.

Season finale tonight!

RandomersAssociation · 06/12/2023 18:17

Hadn’t realised tonight was the last! Quite a bit to unravel in one episode.

Merrilydancing · 06/12/2023 18:26

Ok, here’s my theory. Ellen went back to the house to see her brother. Her dad caught her in her disheveled state, was furious at exposing that side to her brother and killed her in a fit of rage.

I think uncle billy is a red herring and had gone to London to get her home.

It's not just you, @KitchenAngst ! At the start of this season, I certainly thought James was Cal's b/f for a couple of eps!

Yes I'd assumed boyfriend then when he started shagging Ruth, just flatmate. I missed brother totally.

I still have not much idea of any timeline of what Ellen did that night which seems to be busy (Bobby got cash off the bus thief man didn't he, nothing to do with the Ellen death)

Ellen's final night seems up there with the night Alison de la rentis died!! (Pretty little liars!(

RandomersAssociation · 06/12/2023 21:08

Ellen’s grandmother looking suspicious …

WGACA · 06/12/2023 21:18

Gutted it’s the last one!

RandomersAssociation · 06/12/2023 21:24

Who suggested incest?

Because the police haring after the abuse idea is classic misdirection!

RandomersAssociation · 06/12/2023 22:01

Fantastic finale.

Flibbertigibbettytoes · 06/12/2023 22:02

That felt a bit anticlimactic. I love the red herrings along the way but still want the final episode to somehow connect to the earlier ones.

BiliousOhGod · 06/12/2023 22:03

Well..... Not going to say anything about it until ppl have had the chance to finish, but Spiggie Beach is going on the itinerary for next year. Taking friends up (their first time), so they can see some sights while I visit the family.....

Kingdomoffife · 06/12/2023 22:03

Didn't see that coming with Kieran but I guess that was the point.

Someone in the production team must have loved Teenage Fanclub - that end shot of Ruth on the beach was about the third Teenage Fanclub song in the series.

Violetparis · 06/12/2023 22:06

Didn't like that at all, so many other pointless storylines that didn't link together.

Merrilydancing · 06/12/2023 22:06

I really enjoyed it, loved the two female leads and I called it but didn’t quite get the back story right.

longtompot · 06/12/2023 22:06

I wondered how they would tie up so many loose ends in one episode but I think they did it. I thought that was a good end to this series and I look forward to more.

Iphianassa · 06/12/2023 22:08

I don’t understand, but I could have been at a complicated bit of my knitting when it was resolved.

Please explain. What was the significance of the sign which was Ellen’s tattoo and carved into the sheep? Surely too big to be a red herring.

florentina1 · 06/12/2023 22:18

it seemed to me that all the red herrings, tattoo, sheep killing were just to pad out the series. I thought the last episode was well acted.

longtompot · 06/12/2023 22:22

Maybe it was just showing more going on in Ellens life than her family knew? If she hadn't had her close relationship with Tom and his mum maybe Bobby wouldn't have done what he did at the end?

RandomersAssociation · 06/12/2023 22:22

I guessed every single Bain would be separately involved from Ep 1 - because otherwise why show them all together? And the Bain / Quinn comment, too.

I guess we were meant to wonder about Stella’s request to her brother.

Only thing - one would have thought that Grace Bain knew all along, judging by the way she always spoke to her SIL. I guess that might have been part of the group dynamic - if Bobby (and perhaps Ellen) always seemed to dismiss Kieran, then perhaps it just caught on with the rest of the family, even though they didn’t consciously know why.

Pl242 · 06/12/2023 22:24

I just found the concept that Ellen and Bobby would have had sex inconceivable and also completely unbelievable that Kieran could have strangled the girl he thought was his daughter.

Poor Rory though.

longtompot · 06/12/2023 22:25

The feeling I got was Stella and Kieran were having issues before Ellen even went missing and then was found. I wonder what that was about, or maybe that was to do with the dynamic her family had and how they treated him? I too wonder if Grace knew.

I have to say I thought something was going to be revealed to do with Graces husband and Ellen and not Bobby and Stella.

Lunde · 06/12/2023 22:26

It reminded me of the final episode of a Nordic Noir series where the resolution involves family secrets and everyone ends up miserable

overwhelmed2023 · 06/12/2023 22:50

Final episode much better. Maybe a but unlikely but still q good

duc748 · 06/12/2023 22:52

I enjoyed it, but I didn't really buy the plotting or the characterisation. A lot of pretty pointless red herrings, and Stella and Bobby: really? But it was clear going into the finale that the killer had to be not-Bobby.

martha4clark · 06/12/2023 23:08

Yes, completely agree. Very poor storyline, pretty unbelievable on both fronts. But I still love it! Wish the final song had kicked in a bit earlier so we could properly hear it. All I heard was the BBC announcer waffling on over the credits.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2023 23:10

I thought the conclusion was ridiculous really. It just didn't make sense at all.

too many red herrings before the "rabbit out of a hat" moment.
