Anyone else looking forward to the new season starting on Wednesday? It will seem a bit strange without Perez but looks to be a good cast and storyline so far as we know.

I'm struggling to believe in the characters, their motivations and actions. Cal, Ellen, Rosemary, Ruth, even.

So not the boyfriend! The jumper his gf was wearing was the colour they mentioned of the fibres under Ellen's fingernails or on her person.
Loved the moment between Tom and Stella.
I wasn't expecting that end and it is such a shame. He was a waster, but the actor played him so well.
How will Ruth manage to stay and keep working at the station?
Was Ruths dads gf just being vindictive about Stella having a relationship with her dad? Just thought, old would Ruths brother have been when Ellen was born?

Such wooden acting from Tosh and Cora ! Painful to watch.

Who was the brown haired guy at the beginning with a sheep's head sitting outside next to a fire?

Well I started the episode thinking it was the last one so glad there’s another two 😀 we always enjoy the scenery regardless of the plot and acting etc

I think the old Norse god thing is a red herring and think it is something to do with the psychiatrist, maybe Ellen knew too much.

I also need this answered. I didn’t recognise him at all

@lazymum99@ButtonSister that’s Tom Knox. Ellen’s friend who’s part of the rival family. Stella goes to see him later and gets Ellen’s knitted scarf from him.

I thought it was Knox

Could Ellen have been responsible for the psychiatrist's child's death ?
Was her killing in revenge ?

Hmmm.
Did cal (? Ruth's shag guy) drink drive crash, or did farm brother bloke tamper with the brakes....

So was that possibly the wrong DNA result that was given to Ruth saying she wasn’t a match? The older pathologist woman whose name I can’t remember looked a bit suspicious. Has she maybe intercepted the result?

I wondered if she, Ellen, was having an affair with the kid’s father, the psychiatrist, and they were “busy” together when the kid got loose and died. Thus she could feel culpable, and the parent she was sleeping with would be blackmailable about it.

Or that she was meant to be watching the child, but hadn’t, kid died, parent then kills her in revenge and this gives a blackmail option to Heather - but I had the impression the blackmail had been a longer term event. Although I could see throttling as a revenge killing method for a drowning.

Could Ruth’s Dad not be the Minister and her Mum had an Affair so that’s why he didn’t like Ruth? So Ellen was the Ministers daughter but Ruth isn’t so that’s why the DNA didn’t match?

Good point but I hope not because it means the story line is veering way too much into soap territory.
I was pleased to see Tosh give Ruth her marching orders although as there are 2 more episodes I assume she's allowed back into the fold.
Can she just go back to London for the next series, I'm really not interested in her family life/history on Shetland.
Maybe they could go Have I Got News For You and have a guest detective every series.

I thought it was a flashback showing a young Peter and the beginning of his sheep skull thing.

Enjoyed this episode - it felt typical Shetland with twists and turns aplenty. Yes, the acting can be wooden at times but it always was.

Poor Cal, he didn't deserve that. Did Bobby have enough time to fix the starter and tamper with something? Brakes?

Still no idea who killed Ellen.

I thought the boy at the beginning of episode was Heather Bain's (Lorraine from Deacon Blue's) son, and he was also in the group with Cal and Bobby when they tried to get Cal to let Bobby into the drugs gang.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Tom Knox - he always seems to have a hat on!
