Maybe, but because of the scoring system where the contestant with the lowest score might have several points if there are a few tied judges’ scores further up the leaderboard. So the worst contestants actually have an undeserved advantage, needing less of the public vote than if they scored it properly (imo), i.e. the one at the bottom gets just one point, and share the rest of the points out going up the leaderboard. If you know what I mean.

Nikita is ridiculously hot. That Mad about the Boy dance lives on in my dreams. Adam Lambert has such an amazing voice too so it's perfect.

If we say have a hypothetical situation where its Layton, Ellie, Nigel, Bobby and Angela S left in week 10 and their position on the leaderboard is Layton at the top, Ellie and Nigel second with Bobby and Angela next but public vote in order of popularity is Ellie, Nigel, Bobby, Angela and Layton, then we could have the following scenario:

Layton 5+1 =6
Ellie 4 + 5 = 9
Nigel 4 + 4 = 8
Bobby 3 + 3 = 6
Angela 2 + 2 = 4

Although Bobby is further down the leaderboard, the public vote takes priority so Layron would be in the dance off with Angela.

Anyway, this is all conjecture a d I might be miles off with who is more popular than whom!

I'm finding this series much harder to get into than normal but I'm hoping that's because I've had to watch on catch-up more than I ever had in the past. The last couple of weeks (hospital and party) I found a bit dull, especially last week, so I'm hoping I'll be less of a grump about it by watching live this weekend. Maybe I need to be able to vote to enjoy it and the thread definitely helps

I’ve just watched the last 2 weeks worth. I’ve noted that there was a lot of ‘no dance experience’ more so than I remember usually though it could be as I’ve watched binged all 4 episodes.

I can’t remember but is Ellie a ringer? I know Layton is. She’s doing very well. Although I accept that if have been to drama school they’d have done some dance.

I'm sure Ellie has had some dance training, but she was working on Corrie for most of her "school" years, so probably more basic than than most at drama school.

I'd be staggered if Ellie didn't do a whole bunch of dance lessons during her childhood and teens, and I bet she was bloody good, but nothing in her cv suggests that she's been paid to dance professionally like Nigel or Angela S, much less been paid to teach other people to dance like Layton. So she's presumably coming in with a head start, but that's always been the way.

Nothing much to say but Vito looks magnificent in that crisp white shirt on ITT. I was worried when Aljaz left the show but Vito has that same incredibly handsome and yet cheery vibe. I only miss Aljaz being that rare thing on Strictly - a ballroom boy.

Ooh, and Oti back. Another all-time favourite pro.

Layton will never have a shocker, he is a professional dancer. I think that the others may start to get a bit fed up with him always at top (or near) the leaderboard though.

^ quoting @Strictlyfanoftenyears here, just in response wondering - would Aston Merrygold count as a shocker though? I seem to remember he was quite a ringer and a lot seemed to think he would make the final but had a shock exit up against Mollie King.

Aston went out on a VW, because Janette, for all her many admirable qualities, can't teach ballroom for toffee. That's presumably not a trap that Layton is going to fall into.

Just caught up with tonight's ITT and it was nice to see Layton and Nikita being interviewed, I think they make a good partnership. It sounded like it was Nikita's idea for the backflip so maybe some posters shouldn't be so harsh on him for showing off if that was what was asked of him

But on a more serious note Nikita said what a privilege it is to have a celebrity who can make his wild imagination choreography dreams come true, as he said he walks into the training room and says shall we do this and Layton wants / is able to give it a go.

I know Layton gets a bit slated, but I do think it must be great to have a celeb that is a ringer so you can show off. I'm glad Nikita's getting that chance this season like Oti did with Danny.

It's Nikita's side of the partnership that I'm enjoying.

He seems to be a great teacher. He got Tilly a good way through in his first year with a lot of development. I enjoyed his partnership with Ellie last year which was a different set of considerations, and Layton is very different to work with again.

Some pros seem to get more variety, and some seem to get a fairly stable "type".

Ellie and Vito looked like they were having so much fun on ITT. Vito looks completely different without the beard. Maybe shaving it made it easier to paint him green? He's just put a really cute video on IG thanking everyone. Sounds like their American Smooth will be very vintage/traditional - I hope Vito's in a tail suit and Ellie gets a beautiful ballroom dress.

Kai made a little comment about online trolls, sounds like he and Angela R might have been getting some flak, which is a shame.

I wish more of ballroom dances featured beautiful frocks. It's one of the reasons I got into Strictly as a teenager. They used to have fabulous frocks with feathery bottoms.

I loved AJ's quickstep dress from a few years ago. More like that please.

Who's everyone excited to see tonight? I saw some of the rehearsal footage on ITT. Predictably, Ellie, Layton and Nigel all look strong, and I think Annabel's dance will also be very moving. Angela S looks (from admittedly 5 seconds of footage) like she was maybe struggling a little with the samba.

I'm out tonight, so I will catch up tomorrow morning.
