Just seen that Karen has sadly split from her husband.

Maybe that explains why she's been a bit more subdued this year

Maireas · 17/10/2023 18:46

Yes, that was mentioned upthread. It must be tough for her.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2023 19:14

Angela R is 79! She's doing brilliantly, but do we really think it's worth the risk of her getting an injury or health issues just to do a "fast one"?

I for one am loving her work, and hope she dances the hell out of the AT.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/10/2023 16:19

Hardly Charleston Music there for Annabelle

Yes normally I can sort of see their thinking even if I'm unconvinced but I can't get my head round that as a Charleston at all.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/10/2023 19:23

I assume they're going to try to keep Angela R in by any means necessary so she can do an American Smooth to A: You're Adorable in Blackpool.

After which she'll have Salsa, Samba, Jive and a Street Commercial Couple's Choice to WAP.

CaveMum · 17/10/2023 20:12

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal but she’ll have to do them eventually if she stays in! They normally get to drop 2 dances (IIRC) if they’ve made it to the final, but I’d argue it’s making it even harder by leaving them till later as the expectations will be higher against her in terms of the improvement in the other contestants.

I’d much rather get the trickier dances out of the way early on when it’s a) easier to get away with it and b) you’re more likely to get through purely based on the number of contestants left!

BeaLola · 17/10/2023 21:08

I do agree re Angela R - whilst there were worst people in than her she should have done samba or jive or something otherwise all the hard and not always viewer favourites will be all together - they could have saved her AT to Blackpool

Not feeling that Charleston song for Annabell at all - there are sooo many more suitable ones - she and Johannes are going to need to be good

stockpilingallthecheese · 17/10/2023 21:56

Oooh excited for the salsa! Think Eddie will be quite good at the samba, fingers crossed! I like everyone now though and don't want anyone to leave!

MavisMcMinty · 17/10/2023 22:08

Happy to lose Angela R, but she has so many admirers on this thread I expect my hopes will be dashed. I have no wish to see her doing my favourite dance, the AT. Give her a jive, FFS, even her cha cha was at a third of the speed of anyone else’s. An excellent développé does not a cha cha make.

MouseMinge · 17/10/2023 22:19

You're not alone, Mavis. She does nothing for me and I'll happily wave her bye bye.

I didn't for one moment last weekend want her to do a hot and heavy rumba and I didn't think that they would but there was no hip movement and as far as I'm concerned without hips there is no rumba. I know she's 79 and she can do the splits and has fabulous legs but blah.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2023 22:32

I was rather assuming she wouldn't make the finals, @CaveMum, and was also assuming that's why she's got the AT now - so she gets a chance to do her favourite dance before she goes.

I suspect if not voted out she'll bow out gracefully at some point.

Pashazade · 18/10/2023 07:55

I agree with Greebo, I think this is give Angela R the dance she loves and then see how it plays out. She's never going to do the jive, I'm not sure how any of the Latin dances would work for her, both speed and hips seem to be an issue. They could shoe horn in couples choice and do some kind of Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire number so that would probably keep her in another week.

Choux · 18/10/2023 07:58

Interview with Layton:

It has been suggested that Williams, who came to prominence in the BBC comedy Bad Education, but began his career at the age of 12 in the stage version of Billy Elliot, has an unfair advantage – he’s a star of musicals, and went to theatre school. “I’ve taken it on the chin; I get what everyone’s saying,” he says of the criticism. “But if you could be a fly on the wall in this rehearsal room, it’s not easy for me.” Kuzmin’s choreography is challenging because he knows Williams will attempt it, and Williams suspects the judges score him with his musical theatre background in mind. “I’m not sad about that – I want to rise to the challenge.”

AR's cc would be exactly that, wouldn't it? A Fred and Ginger/Morecombe and Wise fusion to Let's Face the Music. I doubt she'll last beyond Blackpool tbh, which is a really good run for a 79 year old - and more than enough for me tbh.

KimberleyClark · 18/10/2023 08:08

Enjoyed Angela R and cannot WAIT for her AT.

will be interested to see if her AT is as good as Debbie McGee’s was.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 18/10/2023 08:24

@Choux
I'd never heard of Layton before Strictly, so was interesting to read.

EvilRingahBitch · 18/10/2023 08:35

How you treat the dances that are likely to be your celeb's third and fourth worst depends on your expectations.

Pro-Nikita, Katya and Vito, who have realistic final aspirations will be wanting to get them out of the way now, while Zara and Eddie are still around to act as cannon fodder and keep a decent celeb doing a ropy routine off the bottom of the leaderboard. They'll save up their probable triumphs for Musicals Week and semi finals.

Karen and Graz OTOH are prioritising week to week survival, and it's probably only pressure from the producers that's making them do any ballroom (Eddie) or Latin (Zara) at all. The fact that that might land Eddie with the choice between foxtrot and VW in the semis is of purely theoretical interest at this stage.

Angela R is half way between the two, but I would assume that Kai and the producers don't have final aspirations for her and are prioritising keeping her in until Blackpool, dodging all the fast Latin in the meantime (I've changed my mind, she'll do Let's Face the Music and Dance for her American Smooth).

Debbie McGee was almost twenty years younger than Angela and had been a full time professional dancer for many years in her youth, so I think that's an unfair comparison.

Yes that’s true.

CaveMum · 18/10/2023 10:23

Never meant to insinuate that AR would be/should be in the Final! My mistake, bad phrasing on my part! What I was trying to get at is that she can’t avoid all the “tricky” dances, even the finalists have to do most of them - Rumba and Samba are the most commonly dropped I think from having looked at it in previous years.

KimberleyClark · 18/10/2023 10:34

I was thinking the other day that a really scorching rumba could be done to some of the less disco-ey Barry White songs, but I don’t think the Strictly singer could do justice to them. Shame.

xsquared · 18/10/2023 10:52

I'd be astonished if Angela R made it to the final given the standard is so high this year.

Apart from the first week when she did CCC, none of her dances have entertained me. Yes, I know she's 79 and she can do the splits which many half her age can't do, but I get the impression that judges are scoring her higher than she deserves because of it. Was her rumba really an 8 from Craig and Amanda's only a 6?

Still, I do hope she does a good Argentine Tango as it's her dream dance. It's a very leggy but slower dance and that should.suit her.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/10/2023 13:23

My cousin has told me that Layton was on a CBBC show, "School for Stars" when he was at Italian Conti I think. She's sent me a YouTube clip so I'll have a look and try to spot him.

Daiyu · 18/10/2023 17:52

Just catching up on last night's ITT - finally Fleur is in a decent outfit!
She is looking fab in her glam suit 😊
