This strikes me as a case where the police probably have a pretty good idea of what happened, but just don’t have the evidence to back it up.

I really felt for his mum and sister, cannot imagine being told by the police sorry, we made such a pig's ear of it the first time, we can't do anything further.
What did strike me, his mum mentioned Mark was 6'4" at the start when she remembered seeing him in ICU, the Headlock fella looked quite chunky but the chief grass did not look capable of chucking any great weight around, how on the earth did they get manhandle him over the railing?

The statement at the end from PD

“I am sorry for Mrs Blanco’s loss and I welcome any assistance people can give her to come to terms with what happened’”.

Some would say carefully worded. Some would say mealiemouthed.

No mention of Mark’s name. No acknowledgement that he died. Just a ‘loss’.

That sadly reads to me like an ‘I’m sorry you took offence at what I said’ type of statement.

I doubt she will fully come to terms with her son dying.

I doubt she will come to terms with the way matters were investigated.

I doubt she will come to terms with anything until she knows the truth.

Someone knows it.

I agree, Doherty's statement was offensively throwaway. I hope bringing this case back into the public eye brings some of Doherty's ex-hangers-on out of the woodwork and they can give the family the truth and justice their son deserves.

Horrific ! what a nasty piece of work! That poor mum and that other poor lad who fell or (was pushed ?) who was a singer who got into drugs. And nasty Docherty and his "pals" around at the same time at both.Why are the police not interested in helping this family? That Docherty has always made my flesh crawl!

The very fact they ran away and past the body of Mark Blanco is reason enough to despise Doherty and his cronies. The statement from him at the end of the programme was a total insult. The police ‘investigation’ sounded half-arsed - they weren’t interested in investigating. Incompetence or cover-up? Either way, I hope his mother gets justice. Are there any signs this case will be re-examined? I hope so. And what about the original homicide officers involved - where are they now and have they been approached again or interviewed, off the record, by the journalists? So many questions.

Thanks for that, just watched it. Fascinating. Seems like it wasn't investigated as a murder and was just left. The US expert is the top of his field, surely the police have to act now. Seems pretty obvious as to what happened. Can't believe the cctv shows the body coming down and then the 3 men running off!

It says a lot to me how they were willing to practically step over a dying man so that they could flee the shitstorm.

It’s such an awful story. Everyone agreed that the way he landed was consistent with being thrown off of the balcony, not jumping, yet nothing ever came of it. Such awful injustice.

I'm watching it now. Is Mark autistic? I got that vibe off him, and when the woman said he was stood too close to Pete waving the posters in his face type thing I thought, that is so typical of someone who is autistic and excited, forgetting/not being aware of personal space.

I’ve just watched this. What a scum bag Doherty is. He literally stepped over a dying man and ran away with his mates. That he played at the Albert Hall just months ago, makes me feel quite sick. Thoughts to Mark’s amazing family and friends.

It's a sign of being off your head on drugs too which I imagine he probably was given the state of the flat and it's inhabitants,why on earth else would you go there and mix with them?

To the PP who mentioned his height,I would think there was a strong possibility he was whacked over the head and severely confused before being pushed which would make it easier.

The awful cctv clip of him landing looked like he was not conscious when he left the balcony. There are no attempts to break his fall or save himself, either consciously or as a reflex action. The balcony isn’t very high up from the ground and yet he flies out and down to the ground very heavily and in a way that is impossible for him to have been upright when left the balcony. I don’t know how his mum can watch that clip. It’s so graphic to me and I didn’t know him, never mind give birth to him

I cannot fathom why the police would just let him go because he changed his mind about confessing. Confessing to crimes you didn't commit is not a known side effect to cocaine use, afaik.

it strongly suggested that uh, the chief suspect was useful to the Met so let off. That case about Hamish Ogden even mentions a Met detective forwarding an email from a supposed victim of alleged sex trafficking to him

I've just watched this. Truly shocking.

The non investigation was appalling and poor Sheila having to investigate her own son's death.

The professional men in the UK and USA who were able to do what they did was fantastic, although looking at it with an untrained eye you could clearly see the body was lifeless going over the balcony, he was like a rag doll. It was good to get professional confirmation that there was more than one there and how their computers and trained eyes could make out other arms etc

In situations like this, at least one person holds the truth, how can people live with themselves.

As everyone says, he looks like he was unconscious before he went over the balcony. How awful. I think the lady at the start knows what happened but won't say - the closest she gets is when she says she can't account for Mark and someone else's movements for a short period.
