Jowita is shorter than Dianne.
Katya won with Joe McFadden.
I assume ERB wants to dissuade saccharine, twee choreo which includes lying down, nose-bopping, snow angels etc

Hah Grin I would like to see Diane and Neil's terrible street dancing banned.

Sunbird24 · 23/09/2023 22:59

EvilRingahBitch · 23/09/2023 22:56

As Sequins correctly surmised, I found the cutesy nature of Dianne's foxtrot choreography completely repellent. A bit of sugar in ballroom is occasionally acceptable but this was like one of those 3,000 calorie freak shakes. In the immortal words of Sophie Ellis Bextor, she's 34. And Bobby is 20 IIRC, not 12.

Gotcha - I had misunderstood your post and thought there was something about Katya’s choreo with Colin Nigel that was the issue… 🤦‍♀️

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2023 23:01

I liked his charleston with Alex and elements of street in the Ghostbusters number but the Xmas routine with Mel I could have done without and the pro numbers with street in them. I only tolerated Karen's attempts with Chris and Jamie because the latter two seemed to camp up the naffness. Fair play, so did Mel but it left me cold (suitable enough as it was to Vanilla Ice).

I usually shorten names Reise but I'm neither calling her evil or rhymes with witch! Grin

Ah got it, I was running my brain for dancers and slebs

Katie Derham got Anton to the final but it was a close thing. Should have been Gleb and Anita imo but they picked the wrong DO number (salsa that was like freestyle).
Emma wasn't his only good partner and some of her dances were decidedly dodgy. He'd had good enough runs with Lesley and Laila and mid-run with Ruth.

HoopLaLah · 23/09/2023 23:10

Jo McFadden, that's the one.

For anyone else interested, here are the past winners

https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/strictly-come-dancing-winners/

Thanks for the link.

Best winners (for me, we only started watching Abby Clancy year)…

  1. Caroline Flack and Pasha.

  2. Rose and Giovanni.

      1. Bill Bailey and Kelvin Fletcher.

Favourite non winners:

  1. Faye and Giovanni. ( woz robbed)

  2. Oti and Danny Mac (woz robbed)

  3. Ed Balls and Katya (unforgettable)

  4. AJ and Kai

  5. Georgia and Giovanni

Agree. Anton was using “Emma is my first good partner” as a bid for sympathy. But it wasn’t true.

He’s superb as a judge though.

I really liked Anita but I think she was relieved to go out. I also liked Sunetra and thought she was disadvantaged being with Brendan.

Clymene · 23/09/2023 23:19

I hated Anton as a pro but he's a great judge. He gives really helpful advice to the celebs and is vaguely Len like without trying to be Len.

Totally agree. Couldn’t wait for them to get rid of him as a pro, but as a judge, I love him.

He spots things that are simple but important to draw attention to, and finds really helpful, ways to describe / explain then, in a vivid, descriptive way.. (Like tonight’s you seem to have heavy elbows.)

And where there’s no point giving technical advice he captures the feel of the dancer’s performance in a humourous way.

His description of Les not being able to quite hear Nancy was both spot on and hilarious.

I know he resented her filming hours and there were rumours of tension but he got her as far week 10, two weeks past Blackpool that year and the week before the quarter finals: only one week less than Pixie Lott (who he'd made no secret of wanting as a partner).
Sunetra had the loveliest costumes that year and the Viennese Waltz Brendan choreoed for her was exquisite.

Mmmm. I dunno. I just got the impression he felt she was holding him back.

nomdegrrr1 · 24/09/2023 00:03

This may be completely weird, but when I look at how Nigel holds himself, I'm getting James Bond vibes.

I would have voted for him and Amanda, but I'm not sure who else.

SequinsandStiIettos · 24/09/2023 00:16

He felt she was holding him back
I think you're right and he was becoming frustrated that he wasn't getting the ringers like Pixie Lott and Helen George. Tall slebs who looked good on paper like Kirsty Gallacher, Victoria Pendleton and Charlotte Hawkins had better bodies than dance ability. Nonetheless, don't think Sunetra would have got further in the competition with another pro that year. She might have had a nicer time but not a better position.

peopke Keep mentioning about Jatya being forgiven. Forgiven for what?

The mentioning of Colin keeps giving me an image of the Colin the Caterpillar cake!

AlaskanSnow · 24/09/2023 06:45

I'm really enjoying Anton as a judge.

And just like Anton fills the Len spot, one day I hope Kai will fill the Anton spot. For no reason other than I think he is lovely.

Inkanta · 24/09/2023 07:19

Kai is lovely with Angela.

After her kiss with her dance partner Seann Walsh in 2018 she has been given hopeless partners.

Forgiven for snogging Seann Walsh who was her partner in 2018 - they were papped and it was all over the tabloids and SM. His relationship with his girlfriend ended and it was the death knell for Katya's marriage to Neil.

Riverlee · 24/09/2023 08:10

Mother and icecream - thank you for the reminder. I’d forgotten about that.

I gad a theory earlier that some of the dancers were given more difficult dances this week, as it doesn’t count, so they won’t get them later in the competition, when the votes do count.

I thought most people just thought she had terrible taste in men- going from Neil to Seann Walsh! They got loads of publicity for it. Even my DH took an interest in Strictly after that! The showbiz all publicity is good publicity probably applies.

He was great today. Sometimes he can go a bit 'Motsi' but he was very constructive. He was like that when he was standing in. The panto booing of Craig needs to stop. You just can't hear what he's saying. It must get really irritating for him, especially when a lot ofvthe times he's giving them useful information too.

onestepfromgrace · 24/09/2023 08:26

Adam Peaty did a fab first dance with Katya and then faded away, she does some amazing choreography I’m looking forward to see if Nigel Derek Colin can keep up with her.

I never warmed to Joe McFadden.

xsquared · 24/09/2023 08:27

I thought most people just thought she had terrible taste in men- going from Neil to Seann Walsh!

I think that's a bit unfair on Neil. She has known Neil since he became her dance partner at the age of 18. They were probably married for legal reasons, but only they know for sure. Still, even after the Seann saga, Neil stuck up for Katya on SM telling trolls not to post horrible comments about her. When Neil partnered with Alex, Katya was very supportive of both of them and vice versa. I know mn seems to hate Neil on this thread, but I don't think he can be that bad.

Lentilweaver · 24/09/2023 08:31

I don;'t mind Neil. I would rather have him given another chance than see Graziano come back to teach his partners how to toss their hair and not perform any basic steps at all.
