I feel a bit sorry for Leyton. It's not his fault he's a ringer, it's not like he would be turning Strictly down. I just think the celebrities shouldn't also be professional dancers which is essentially what he is as the star of a West End musical.

TallerThanAverage · 16/09/2023 20:33

Love all the pairings especially excited for Layton as I’m hoping Nikita can un-jazzhands him so he can really shine.
Jessie Ware was fabulous. Tess and Claudia were dressed beautifully as always.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/09/2023 20:30

They played down Nigel too.
He said that was a delivery driver when he got the EastEnders job. Well maybe, but he was also billed as a West End performer when he joined EastEnders, so the driving is a red herring...

See also Angela S talking about her Irish dancing experience: she was part of a dance troupe and performed professionally with them!

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:33

You know in a Chorus Line when Michael Douglas says to Cassie she'll stand out because she's too good. Layton's like that. It's the confidence, the hands, the finishes. I don't want him out as I enjoy watching him but those flourishes will count against for those who like a level playing field.

ChessieFL · 16/09/2023 20:34

I want Annabelle to do well. I think she and Johannes are a good pairing. Very glad they didn’t put Johannes with Layton, that would have been unbearable (and I really like Johannes!)

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:34

Yes, and Carlos used that in her bit.

Tbf he did say that his agent rang him, so I thought it was clear that he was a struggling professional actor doing fill-in work to pay the bills.

IndiKid2015 · 16/09/2023 20:35

Nigel for the win.

Snozzlemaid · 16/09/2023 20:35

I love Leyton but he's in a different league to the others.
Saw him in Everybody's Talking about Jamie and he was outstanding.

OddBoots · 16/09/2023 20:39

I got the impression Leyton knew he shouldn't really be doing it but when he was asked he knew how upset his mum would be if he said no. The BBC shouldn't have put him in that position really.

PosyPrettyToes · 16/09/2023 20:39

From a 2015 article in the Guardian….

“Abbington herself grew up an only child in Hertfordshire, where she and Freeman still live. Her grandparents were pretty big on politeness, she says, and she’s always been close to her parents and still hates the idea of letting them down. Then there were the dance classes that she took from the age of five, three or four a week, that instilled a sense of discipline. At 16 she ripped her groin muscles doing the splits, and her future as a professional dancer was over, but her teachers had seen enough to encourage her to act instead.”

Edited

I didn't even know who Leyton was until I started reading the build up and how he was going to insist on wearing dresses and wanted Johannes as a partner.

Yawn.

And poor old Johannes would have ended up having to do a whole <wanky word alert> journey Strictly again instead of just being able to dance, and to teach someone else to. I'm pleased for Annabel and feel sorry for Nikita (K)

Is Amanda a ringer? Shock

I've had enough Leyton already. He's insufferable.

I don't class a bit of ballet as ringing, loads of female competitors have done ballet in the past.

In terms of height, it would have made far more sense to put Nadiya with Bobby. I guess they didn't want to give her another EastEnder. Dianne and the bubbly young guy has so been overdone, though.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 16/09/2023 20:46

Bobbie looks too tall for Diane. I think she'd have suited Adam better - he's quite funny and I think he'd get on better with Diane than Luba, who seems quite serious.

I saw Les in Hairspray, and he 'danced' like a grandad then, so tonight was no surprise.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:47

Early boots waiting for a miracle:

  1. Les
  2. Jody
Surprise boots: 3. Angela R 4. Nikita Midtable: 5. Krishnan (people's champion) 6. Adam 7. Zara 8. Eddie Blackpool: 9. Ellie Quarter Finals: 10. Bobbi (cute factor only but could be a shock boot) Semi Finals: 11. Amanda (Gio factor unless her feet go)
Finalists: Angela S, Annabel, Nigel, Layton
slobro · 16/09/2023 20:47

Predict Annabel, Amanda, Nigel and Bobby will be most popular with the voters (well those of my age who remember mini Den and Jade on BB very clearly!) And looked they could all dance a bit too which is helpful. I REALLY hope Annabel is okay.

I don't class a bit of ballet as ringing, loads of female competitors have done ballet in the past.

Ultimately it’s a Saturday night light entertainment show where the winner gets a glitterball. It’s really not important how much experience any of the participants do or don’t have.
The people complaining about good dancers having an advantage will be moaning that they didn’t get through and yet the worst dancer did in a few weeks.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:52

Both Nikitas have K as a surname (Kuzmin, Kanda) so shortenings gonna have to be ProNikita.

I generally enjoy the ringers as I like to see good dancers (Danny Mac being my favourite ever contestant), but I think this signing is a step too far.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:54

We'll have to wait and see...being a ringer didn't save Aston. damn that wig
And Pixie went earlier.

I'll put more first dances are over at Spoilers.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:56

Regarding Amanda, the mahoosive blood blister is testament to how much work she's been putting in, dance lessons as a child or not.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/09/2023 20:57

Don’t mind a ringer at all - find Layton intensely irritating as a person though.

Am I spelling his name wrong? Lots of ‘Leytons’ on here…

EsmaCannonball · 16/09/2023 20:58

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/09/2023 20:10

Gorkita.
Forget everything I said about wanting Nikita in top four. She's annoying.

Can't believe they didn't go for Team Norka. Especially as Gorka gets his out a fair bit.

AntonDuPig · 16/09/2023 20:58

Hello all,
Late to this but I am so confused already!
So we have three female celebs who look similar to each other, and then there’s two Angelas and two Nikitas.
There’s no hope for me, I’m done for 😂

Love Bobby, Angela R and Annabel.
