@cheshirecatssmile Ah thank you - why oh why don't they give them a cooler place to work in very extreme heat?

They all had fans on their work stations

MapleSyrupWaffles · 18/10/2023 21:16

Dans back, thank goodness ! He did really well.

I knew they wouldn't send anyone home, wouldn't have been fair. But next week will be tense!

I thought they all did really well today actually, surprised the judges were so underwhelmed as they were really hard tasks in that time - they keep saying that things would be better with more time, so why always make it such a race?!

Nice that more of them survive for an extra week. They should have more of them ill more often!!

AtmosAtmos · 18/10/2023 21:16

Yup false tension. They knew before the final round that Tasha hadn’t been doing well. Could have just had a celebration and more fun if the bakers knew before the showstopper.

Yes, but...it's a TV programme!

Why would they lower the stakes when they have the chance to do the corny "and the person going home is...no-one" thing.

They could get rid of all the tension by just having 12 lovely people baking in a tent together, but it wouldn't be Bake Off.

cheshirecatssmile · 18/10/2023 21:29

Dan report pastry week was just as hot.
He was gutted as he made dessert not cake.
But well done little bro

Maireas · 18/10/2023 21:34

Noel is wearing a big jumper on the hottest day of the year?! Also, Dana looks a bit layered up.

Maireas · 18/10/2023 21:40

Poor Tasha had a migraine the night before, she must have felt awful. I'm glad she's back next week, though.

Everything he made looked amazing!

MapleSyrupWaffles · 18/10/2023 22:00

I wish they would give them a better environment for the chocolate tasks too. The weather must have been so unpleasant. My face absolutely drips in the heat, and would have been very unhygienic, as well as un-photogenic. I need cloths to mop up constantly. Can't imagine trying to bake in that sort of situation. And a fan on the workstation would have done nothing to help!! Would have just got in the way. Maybe that's why Dan's cake ended up slanted :)

Blueberrycreampie · 18/10/2023 22:05

Yes and most seemed vastly overdressed for such heat - Pru, Paul and some of the contestants are not dressed for extreme temperatures.

Maireas · 18/10/2023 22:08

I really like Josh, it's a shame his chocolate box wasn't great, he's a good baker. Cristy seems to go under the radar a bit, she's had some good bakes.

ArtichokeAardvark · 18/10/2023 22:30

Anyone else bored of Paul's over exaggerated innuendos? Jokes about the bakers' nuts stopped being funny after the first 10 minutes 🙄

RampantIvy · 18/10/2023 22:42

They are turning into caricatures of themselves with the innuendos and Prue's clothes.

To be fair, a lot of it is in the editing. As a presenter you might make the same joke a few times because it gives the editors more choice to work with, not your fault if they then decide to keep in several versions of the same joke.

Yes I'm bored with his juvenile, constant attempts at humour.
Mind you, I can't stand him.

I wasn't sure when I heard Alison was replacing Matt but I like her, think she fits in ok.

MapleSyrupWaffles · 19/10/2023 09:22

Prue's outfits are unusual, but I guess that's her style. I'm impressed how she can manage to eat all the cakes while wearing such bright lipstick, and not smudging it at all!!

I still miss Mel and Sue as the presenters really. They actually seemed interested in the contestants, and not just in making stupid jokes - the humour grew out of the banter with them.

I don't mind Prue as a judge, but I wish her viewpoint wasn't always trumped by Paul and his 'handshake'. Somehow he has become the de facto main expert, and she is always secondary. If she likes something, it's always "well, I thought it was nice, anyway" after something has been criticised by Paul, as if her view didn't matter or wasn't as valid, and his was the right one. She's said "well I'd have given you a handshake" or something like that, and I always think - well why can't you? Why has Paul's handshake become the only thing that matters to anyone? Mary seemed to be a bit more respected, although Paul was still dominant then.

Is Tasha wearing coloured contact lenses?

I wondered that too.

I do love the sound of this showstopper. But feel it's too much of an ask in the tent in crazy heat.

I wonder why they don't have air conditioning units? I'm sure with technology today they could filter out any background noise? 🌹

LadyEloise1 · 19/10/2023 11:02

Oh my !
Chocolate Week was chocolate heaven.
Such deliciousness Smile
I record the show and fast forward quite a bit of it so I missed that Tasha had to leave.
I just watch the introduction, the challenges. the pictorial description of each bakers cakes, the finished product, the judging and the final announcements.

WhatapityWapiti · 19/10/2023 12:08

I was pleased that Nicky and Matty both had good weeks at last.

Christie should have gone though.

Yes, it's clumsy and getting tedious. Also, I think there's an element (which I haven't noticed in previous series) of deliberately creating content for dissection on 'Extra Slice'.

I'm finding it quite tiresome. Jo Brand and Tom Allen don't need staged 'pointers' in order to be witty.

Glad that Dan did better this week and that no-one went home. I think Christy and Dana might not be long for the tent. But they are a really nice group this year. I do like Rowan, even his little sweary rant early on was quite endearing.

GCAcademic · 19/10/2023 12:55

It annoyed me when Noel and Alison were pissing around and picking up stuff off the bench (and dropping it) when one of the bakers (Christy?) was trying to do really intricate piping work. They shouldn't be allowed to do that!

Graciebobcat · 19/10/2023 13:16

Noel and Alison are the best pairing since Mel & Sue.

I find Paul funny because he's not funny and I like Prue.

LadyEloise1 · 19/10/2023 13:49

Nobody is standing out hugely as they have done in previous years.
It's hard to call.
@cheshirecatssmile lucky you. There's no Dan like figure in our extended family who is a brilliant baker/cook.

CheerfulYank · 20/10/2023 08:24

I’ve just started watching today and I’m STARVING 🤣
