TV that's comforting but not utter rubbish

I have Covid. I'm finishing off some work and then am going to take to the sofa with a duvet. I need cheering, comforting but diverting things to watch.
I've just binged Last Tango in Halifax (well, I have two more to watch, but am going to need more!). I'm looking for things along those lines; TV that pulls you along and makes you feel a bit cosseted without insulting your intelligence.
TIA!

Another vote for US Office.

You need to power through the first few episodes which are just (not as good) remakes of UK office, then it really gets into its own stride. Totally addictive, brilliant tv.

WhyDoesItAlways · 31/08/2023 00:20

I'll throw out the bear on Disney plus. The first episode is not very chilled at all but when you get passed that the character development is great and watching the chefs learn to cook was weirdly very therapeutic.

Also schitts creek is my absolute go to when I'm feeling rubbish. It took me a while to get into it but it's absolutely heart warming and funny.

Couple of French ones on Netflix which are adorable

Plan cœur (The Hook Up Plan) 3 seasons which will have you laughing and crying - gorgeous!
And a film called Stuck Together - very apt as you have covid (you'll see why when you watch it)

This is one of my favourites Kdramas (another one being CLOY). My daughter and I randomly say quotes from EAW when reminded of it (if we see an image of a whale, for example) 😁. When watching Kdramas, I need to give it my full attention (subtitles), so haven’t been able to watch any for a while 😞.

OP, may I suggest The Split (BBC series). It is an excellent drama series, with amazing cast members.

DH and I send this meme to each other frequently when one of us is getting all her up about something.

Two doors down on iplayer.
Comedy about a group of neighbours in Scotland. Each character seems relatable to one in my own life and I've watched it soooo many times but still laugh out loud at it. I don't understand how it hasn't been suggested on here as many times as mum or the detectorists.

It is my go to when I want to relax but havent got the head space to focus on something new.

Hope you feel better soon.

Another vote for Big Boys.

I like the Lincoln lawyer it's an easy fun watch

You might have enough already 🤣 but DH and I both LOVED Mrs Maisel on Prime. Really well written comedy, gave exactly the feeling of being "in safe hands" with the writing. Great character arcs, never a dud episode. Loved it.

I love it 😁! I might start doing that too.

My daughter and I like to do the ‘Woo to the Young to the Woo’ greeting to each other 😄

This is true. The pilot episode is a carbon copy and not that funny.

My friend watched series one and said she didn't get into it, but I think S2 - S5 is the peak.
But you do need to watch from the start so you can build up a picture of the characters personalities.

I put random episodes on all the time and it still makes me properly laugh out loud.

Oh yes, been meaning to try that for ages!

Seen The Split, unfortunately as it would be good Covid viewing!

How about Power of Parker?

Especially the clubbing scene Grin

Mamabear48 · 31/08/2023 19:45

Just started 911 and was hooked from the first episode. Which is rare for me!

Mew2 · 31/08/2023 19:51

Can I suggest When Calls the Heart on Netflix... I loved it....

I really want to watch this but it looks like only seasons 5 and 6 are on Netflix and series 4 is on FreeVee on Amazon. Would it matter not to watch the first three series, there aren't even any second hand cheap DVDs on eBay

Yes, I love that too. Not much concentration required and some totally ridiculous storylines but entertaining none the less.

I'm on the last season of 911 lonestar which is also worth a watch.

I'm watching this tonight and really enjoying it. I hadn't heard of it till I saw your post. Thank you.

So pleased you're enjoying Five Bedrooms! I think Heather in particular is a character we don't usually get to see portrayed.

dayswithaY · 01/09/2023 07:43

I’ll also vote for Mrs Maisel - the characters draw you in and the costumes and settings are amazing - especially NY department store at Christmas.

Schitts Creek - give it time, you may not like it straight away but at the end you’ll feel like you’re saying goodbye to friends.

Fleishmann is in trouble - Disney Plus again, it took time but wow, so much going on, so many emotions, really good.

Unforgotten on ITVbe - don’t bother with the last series.

MumofNoahandMilo · 01/09/2023 10:27

Came here to say THANK YOU for this post!

It’s 1st September - I also have a cold already and the weather is looking bleak. I needed this list today ☺️ bring on the blankets…
