Netflix Depp vs Heard

Anyone watched this yet?

I did vaguely follow this trial, and I am not sure what I expected from this series.

But, at times it made me quite uncomfortable. Two actors, both claim the other is lying.

There doesn't seem to be anything new, it is just a repeat of the trial. Perhaps a little of his life as a child.

I have one more episode to go (there are only 3) and I am not itching to watch it really.

Anyone else think its a bit blah.

I watched the first and a half episodes. I don't know. It is basically her word against his. I am unsure of the editing. I also don't like all the social media commentary.

But she comes off as more believable than him. She looks anguished all the time. He is smirking and laughing at her, while refusing to even look at her at all. The fact the trial was bought in virginia and his team pushed for it to be televised so he could tell his story, is potentially abusive in itself.

The second episode goes in to her saying that he sexually abused her with a broken bottle. That is really fucking dark. No longer just Hollywood gossip - which is the vibe of the show. One of them is obviously lying.

It's just really sad and horrible. There is one court case (uk) that says she was subject to domestic violence and this case in the states that says the opposite.

It is interesting, but left me feeling uncomfortable for watching it.

The case in the UK was only Depp versus The Sun newspaper it was just that Johnny couldn't prove they had defamed him. As the parties in the cases were different the evidence against Heard couldn't be used in the UK trial. The charges are so different so can't really be compared. In the US trial Heard attorneys kept bringing up the UK trial but Depps team had to keep pointing out it wasnt relevant etc.

Has it gone? I watched half of it then went back to finish and couldn’t find it.

This is back on Netflix and I'm actually heartbroken for Amber. She was let down.

I finished this today and I agree. I think Amber is telling the truth and Depp's entourage are helping cover it all up for him. Although I do think that she also didn't behave well in their marriage, the things she said he did seem more believable to me.

Plus Depp's assistant from the plane was clearly lying saying he didn't recall anything (like kicking etc). Lying little scumbags, all in Depp's pocket due to the financial gain.

Also have to agree that I didn't like all the SM references and sidebars. But I also don't think the cameras should have been allowed into the courtroom, nor should any of it have been televised. Turned the whole thing into a media circus imho.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/06/2024 20:57

Well, what did you make of all the recordings? She is no angel. I don't believe he is either but I think she was the instigator of both their downfalls.

Slattern77 · 28/06/2024 20:58

Also believe Amber but every causal misogynist bastard (my ex included) used the case as a big example of women being “crazy manipulative liars” - and the consensus was “poor Johnny”. Made me sick

What? She's obviously insane. She's a bad actor and you can tell she is lying

Piparellah · 28/06/2024 20:59

She reminds me so much of my crazy narcissist ex girlfriend, her mannerisms and facial expressions. She hit me and lied about suicide attempts and allsorts

TheShellBeach · 28/06/2024 21:01

The Netflix show has been so badly made that I couldn't watch more then 15 minutes of it.

I agree! It was obvious she was acting and manipulating and the fact none of her close friends at the time of the alleged abuse were her friends now, spoke volumes to me. But the recordings alone. She was awful!

ToxicChristmas · 29/06/2024 15:02

They were both obviously bullshitting and acting their way through the trial. I'd imagine the "truth" is somewhere slap bang in the middle. He was abusive, she was abusive, they both behaved absolutely terribly and took drugs and drank and were obnoxious dickheads who loved to wind each other up. They should have split and just left it at that. The documentary is really poor; the social media bits are so irritating and unnecessary.

I totally agree. Everything about his behaviour is wrong. The video of him kicking kitchen cabinets, his smirking and laughing in the court, the way it was never his behaviour that was the problem, it was her taking photos of it. And then his playing to the idiots crowds outside the court. Horrible, disgusting man.

I didn’t get her being horrible in any of the recordings? Which ones are you referring
to?

The one where she was recorded saying she was hitting him, not punching him. She has hitting him with an open hand and because he tried to remove himself from her being violent she was calling him a 'fucking baby'

Also the extended video where she recorded him hitting the cabinets and at the end she was smiling and laughing. But she edited that bit out before sending it to TMZ.

My narc ex used to do the same thing. Wind me up all day, threaten me, gaslight me, spit at me, throw things at me and when I blew my top because of her shit she would record me.

there was also the bit about no one believing him because he was male.

That recording only told us she was calling him a big baby, which he seems to be. He definitely kicked her on that plane, we know now that it was acknowledged in text messages and I think you could tell that his lackey with the grey hair was lying or just deliberately withholding - “I don’t recall”. 🤔

I took that to be him gaslighting her saying she was abusing him and that was her response. We only heard a minute or two so probably needs more context.

...error and that she was HITTING HIM and he didn't hit her back??

Hispi · 01/07/2024 17:20

I think the claims that she was assaulted with a broken bottle can cause doubt as there would have been a medical trail and her on audio admitting to slapping him. Also he doesn’t come out smelling of roses with the awful texts saying he wanted to burn her or drown her to his mate and the kicking stuff.
I think it was a highly dysfunctional relationship with abuse on both sides.

This is exactly why I couldn’t get past the first episode. Whatever her faults, the hateful and violent misogyny aimed at her, is ultimately aimed at any of us when we go up against powerful men. It was too depressing.

I'm not sure how it can be him gaslighting her when its her that said it.

Covetthee · 01/07/2024 17:35

It was an absolute sham of a trial. There is NO way the jury wasn’t influenced by all the social media and medja commentary, unless they were kept in 24/7 lockdown during the trial.

Whilst i have no doubt Amber behaved appallingly in her marriage, i also truly believe she was abused and assaulted by Depp.

the depo fanbots are actually insane.

i hope both of them have some kind of happiness and peace

To me it sounded like only part of a conversation which was potentially a response to him accusing her of being abusive - which she might have been (in that case, fine) or she might not have been (in that case, he’s gaslighting). I didn’t like his behaviours at all and I think it’s the latter.
