Anyone watched this yet?

I did vaguely follow this trial, and I am not sure what I expected from this series.

But, at times it made me quite uncomfortable. Two actors, both claim the other is lying.

There doesn't seem to be anything new, it is just a repeat of the trial. Perhaps a little of his life as a child.

I have one more episode to go (there are only 3) and I am not itching to watch it really.

Anyone else think its a bit blah.

To me it sounded like only part of a conversation which was potentially a response to him accusing her of being abusive - which she might have been (in that case, fine) or she might not have been (in that case, he’s gaslighting). I didn’t like his behaviours at all and I think it’s the latter.

She is on tape saying that she hit him. that she called hime names, that she wouldn't let him leave when they had "arguments" and would belittle him.
Is there anything more that needs to be said by her to prove that she was abusive?

I don’t fall for poor, innocent, fragile, abused Johnny. Did you see the vile message he sent to his friend two years before they got married? I think that gives us the measure of what she was dealing with.

I don't believe that either are particularly innocent.
But then I don't believe that either is better than the other.

Trixiefirecracker · 01/07/2024 22:35

Abuse in both sides. Both as bad as each other. Awful behaviour and neither came out of it in a good light.

heartbroken22 · 06/07/2024 02:27

I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan but even now it's scary to think that's how he treats women once he's under the influence of alcohol and drugs. It's scary really.

I agree, he's a pig, this was a man in his 50s with a young woman in her 20s and we saw the way he spoke about her and some of his drunken behaviour. And then he played the poor innocent fragile act and people lapped it up.

What about the recordings where he admitted to headbutting her and where he said that together they're a crime scene waiting to happen and where he says he can't take more physical abuse on each other?

Absolutely insane that those recordings are actually out there and available to the public but yet most people lapped up all of his bullshit and she was demonised completely.

He was able to sit up there and confidently state that he didn't do x and y because he knew the evidence that supported Amber wasn't allowed to be used in evidence.

The virginia trial was an absolute joke and made a mockery out of the whole idea of defamation.

One of them was allowed to come out of it in a good light though, because evidence was withheld and he and his team told a pack of lies.

I think most sane people believe they are both unhinged. Of course the people who buy in to the cult of Jonny Depp maybe don’t but that’s the same for all celebrity worship, for example Michael Jackson where his followers can not believe he could possibly be a pedophile. No one I know personally thinks JD has covered himself in glory, quite the opposite.

heartbroken22 · 06/07/2024 23:13

I found the lawyer Camille quite cunning. Spraying depps perfume in the ladies bathroom so amber could smell it (mind games). Wearing white so that the jury focused on her instead of Amber...other things too..

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 07/07/2024 05:27

I hated this whole thing - classic DARVO, and he used his greater profile and more expensive team to get lots of evidence dismissed or his team did a great job of not letting it "land" with the jury. Plus Amber is a divisive character, i dont think i would like her if we met and i certainly dont think she is an angel. But no one has to be a "perfect victim" to deserve empathy.
if anyone just reads the evidence transcripts it's so transparent that there was clear and sustained abuse in that relationship, and he was the person with all the power and driving it.

i was such a Johnny Depp fan before this, and it really turned my stomach :(

I think the claims that she was assaulted with a broken bottle can cause doubt as there would have been a medical trail and her on audio admitting to slapping him. Also he doesn’t come out smelling of roses with the awful texts saying he wanted to burn her or drown her to his mate and the kicking stuff.
I think it was a highly dysfunctional relationship with abuse on both sides.

I didn't enjoy this at all, if that was Netflix's purpose, it was quite uncomfortable actually even though I followed it at the time, neither of them come out of it looking good, it was an awful relationship & I'm embarrassed to say when the shit hit the fan originally years ago I thought "well I hope Vanessa Paradis is allowing herself a little schadenfreude"

I think the ruling was right, she was caught out in so many lies or at least half lies, if there is such a thing? The photos & the secret filmings of him didn't sit right with me, it felt as if she was gathering them all for her big pay day but yeah massively dysfunctional relationship that should have ended with a fling, at least there's no children involved

inlandriverview · 08/07/2024 18:50

I actually don't believe her and i think she made accusations to hurry him and then had no choice to carry on with the story once he sued her

But I really dislike Depp even more now

He should not have televised it. He did not come across as a lovely bloke whose wife was crazy...he probably instigated a lot of the violence

Scorchio84 · 08/07/2024 19:47

It was actually her counsel/legal team who pushed for that, which I was shocked to hear, it was incredibly uneccesary & inevitably turned it into what it became, a total circus

heartbroken22 · 10/07/2024 10:45

@Scorchio84 Elaine her lawyer said they pushed to not have it televised.

If anyone else who has been abused I'm not sure if you heard in the audio where she's crying hysterically (sounds like she's overwhelmed and tired from all the fighting and close to a mental breakdown) he tells her she's got borderline personality disorder (calmly so you don't notice) and says to her go take your medication (when she's asking for support from him). Abusers make u feel like you're crazy whilst they're calm. They make you feel abandoned.

The doctor that was there in Australia was a misogynist. He hated Amber. He said she needs to go to her support system. We'll be here for Johnny but she needs to F off. He was medicating her to put it politley. Upped her medicine to drug her. Johnny didn't want her to see her own doctors but his doctors. They were loyal to him and didn't care for her.

Scorchio84 · 10/07/2024 11:57

That makes more sense, I must have misheard it. I stand by everything else, though I agree with your point about abusers making you feel crazy etc it's a horrible feeling

I am in my 40s now, but was in an abusive relationship in my 20s. The guy recently got back in touch (I can only assume a mid life crisis coincided with the lapse of the restraining order….)

I forgot how people can convincingly lie and make your question your own memories/experiences

I have actual x rays showing this guy broke my ribs, but because it was 15 years ago he genuinely had me doubting myself

Imagine if he was a crazy talented actor? Right??

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 14/07/2024 06:37

It's a classic domestic abuse case, victims are rarely perfect. Which is why the public turned on Amber. She is not a perfect victim, doesn't mean she wasn't abused.

There was a huge power imbalance between them and he loved it.

heartbroken22 · 31/07/2024 21:59

If anyone is invested in this and feels like amber was wronged. Watch medusones videos on YouTube. She lays it all out with proof how Depp abused amber and why she lost the case

heartbroken22 · 31/07/2024 22:00

He sexually abused her with a bottle because he suffered from impotence. It all makes sense in the timeline.

libertybonds · 31/07/2024 22:13

I highly recommend the podcast Who Trolled Amber if you haven't listened

Depp is more in the wrong here - far more.

The doctor was on Johnny's books not Ambers' so of course Johnny was his priority. The doctor gave her medication because she was up to high doe after cutting his finger off.

Your take on it is very skewed.

CharlotteLightandDark · 31/07/2024 22:27

I think both Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt must have the hardest working PR teams in Hollywood. And that’s saying something.

oh for sure! Apart from the court stuff with the kids, no media outlet is really talking about how bad Brad actually is.

and once again in the pitt situation the woman in this scenario is the evil one. Big bad sexy siren angelina is poisoning all 6 kids against poor alcoholic hearthrob brad.

Trixiefirecracker · 01/08/2024 07:24

I think Depp is an asshole but Amber is a piece of work. They deserved each other. Both awful people who did awful things to each other. Neither is covered in glory.

Emilywiththegreeneyes · 01/08/2024 07:26

I started watching it last night but turned it off after about 30 minutes for two reasons.

  1. it seemed like it was just going to be clips of the court room, which didn’t seem massively worth investing so much time in.
  2. I believe JD is abusive and it felt uncomfortable watching people fawn all over him
