So do we think he’s going to cover for her??

Freysimo · 13/08/2023 12:47

I think he'll cover. Did anyone think Derek had killed girlfriend/father? I'm easily fooled.

butterpuffed · 13/08/2023 15:15

How can he cover for her ? That Crichett is like a dog with a bone and has sent him the photo of the suspect who is obviously his wife . She will be hot footing it to Ireland if nothing comes of it .

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/08/2023 20:34

Will there be a s2

How can he cover this up

Yes no way the London copper will let this go

If anyone else sees the pic they will know it's his wife

What happened to her daughter - did she leave her crying in the room 20yrs ago

I said I thought she would get away with it

Watched the first episode but it didn't really grab me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/08/2023 23:28

Give it another go @JMSA

Watched the first episode but it didn't really grab me.

I gave up after the second one.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/08/2023 11:17

Noooo @LadyEloise1 and your country 😂

It's actually quite good and clever

I loved it, but I think it's been cancelled, so no series 2.

TheSaltyPath · 20/08/2023 13:23

I'm on ep 3, and still not sure if I like it or not. Maggie/Shelley played the Competent Female Sidekick (see also, Tosh in Shetland) in that terrible Bloodlands NI police thriller, didn't she?

Son Derek is the only one who seems to be enjoying himself, what with his crazy sex and drugs and skateboarding lifestyle. It's his dad he should be mad at, not his stepmum - she wasn't the one who decided Derek was the best name for a baby boy in 2006-ish, after all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/08/2023 13:24

Ha ha ha at Derek name @TheSaltyPath

OK, we've now watched all six episodes and my main takeaway is this: writers, ffs stop trying to get a second series by finishing with that maddening '... or is it?' style finale. Just finish the damn thing.

And also please make at least one of the characters sympathetic. That poor wee lad with cystic fibrosis AND the burden of being the only likeable character in the whole set-up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2023 11:40

Yes the poor son didn't get much sympathy

Where the older stepson had his heart broken

Are we allowed to talk about plot points now the series is finished? Because I have a tattoo related observation...

Walkingtheplank · 23/08/2023 12:45

Yes, spill!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 23/08/2023 12:47

I’d say we can talk about it now.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2023 12:51

Yes deffo

Once an episode has been shown on tv fair game to talk about it

OP posts:
TheSaltyPath · 23/08/2023 14:14

OK, well... Shelley/Maggie had a magpie tattoo on her shoulder blade, didn't she? Even if it was faded/had been partially removed, she and Jason had been married for over ten years and seem to have the kind of sex life that doesn't take place exclusively in the dark - so how come he hadn't noticed before? Wouldn't it have come up in conversation? Wouldn't you have expected to have had a scene with him looking at her while she was asleep with a thoughtful expression, or her suddenly taking to wearing pjs in bed so he couldn't get a good look?

Or did all that happen and I missed it? Apols to writers if so.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2023 19:10

I think he knew she had a tattoo obv

But they didn't know the accomplish nickname was magpie

So never clicked till last episode

OP posts:
TheSaltyPath · 23/08/2023 19:44

But in episode 2 he pins a massive blown-up photo onto the evidence board of a tattoo that's identical to the one on his wife's back, and there's all that 'magpies mate for life' business. Much is made about Maryama having a 'matching' tattoo to link her to the dead man, even though it's clearly not the same. Wouldn't a detective think, at some point, that's weirdly familiar, where've I seen that before? Oh wait...

Even if he immediately discounted his wife's involvement, you'd think they'd write in a passing glance of 'oh yeah', or a thoughtful finger tip tracing while she sleeps.

I couldn't decide whether she had deliberately chosen to marry a policeman to gain some kind of future protection, or whether she'd fallen in love and always dreaded this secret coming out.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2023 20:46

Oh. I don't R.E.M. that @TheSaltyPath

Maybe he just didn't think she was a killer

If you think about it do you think your dh /wife /partner is a killer

You wouldn't

indyocean · 24/08/2023 19:28

Some of the acting on this is dire

The English policewoman is dreadful. Is she Irish doing a shite accent?

Catsanfan · 24/08/2023 21:18

Yes

indyocean · 24/08/2023 21:22

Strange show

So many plot holes and more questions raised than answered

All the English accents in this are very strange

daffodilandtulip · 24/08/2023 21:41

Been a crap few weeks so have watched it all this week. I really liked it. I think it had an interesting plot line and I felt stressed on her behalf! Whilst they left it open, I think it would have dragged it out to make a second series. And unusually soft for me, but I'm glad they made up at the end.
