Something for the whole family to watch, 13 and 16yr old kids.
Tend to watch 2 or 3 episodes a few times a week when we have tea in front of the telly.

We've just finished
How I met your Mother

Ensemble cast shows seem to go down well and animation. Also shows that it doesn't really matter if one or another of us miss an episode, easily catch-upable :)

Stuff we've already seen...
Parks & Rec (x2)
Community (x3)
Superstore (x2)
Aaaaaall The Simpsons over and over
Futureama (x2)
Rick and Morty*
Bobs Burgers
Ghosts
Big Bang and Young Sheldon (x2)
Brooklyn 99

I'm sure there are others, but drawing a blank now.

Any suggestions? Kids seem to prefer U.S stuff. We've never really had (normal) telly telly; just apps and downloads, so I'm know we will have missed some good U.K terrestrial T.V. I'm sure they'd like Car Share for example.

They are smart kids and we often use maybe tough topics/outdated views that come up in 15+ stuff as conversation starters. There was plenty to discuss about HIMYM :)

Stuff to avoid...
No one needs to revisit Friends!
*Ricky and Morty was about as wacky/shouty as I could hack for tea time viewing - so nothing too mental!

Hit me up!
TIA

My teen enjoyed watching Jane the Virgin with me. Also Only Murders in the Building. Only 2 seasons currently, but there is another one due next month.

Babdoc · 19/07/2023 09:39

The US version of The Office was lovely, v funny, likeable characters, and had endless seasons, so can keep you going for months!
I would also recommend the (so far) three seasons of The Chosen, on Netflix, about the life of Jesus. They are filming the fourth currently. It is brilliantly acted, as authentic as they can possibly make it, and hugely moving, but also has some lovely touches of humour.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/07/2023 09:46

Have you tried US Ghosts?

We are currently watching Red Dwarf on iplayer. Before that we binged Death in Paradise.
911 and 911 Lone Star might appeal if they like American stuff.

GreenSalon · 19/07/2023 09:54

A lock down hit with mine of similar ages was Friday Night Lights. They did laugh occasionally at the fashion as it now looks dated but also acknowledged it was surprisingly ahead of its time in tackling issues that still feel very current. We had to buy some seasons via Prime but was worth it as we were OBSESSED. Not comedy but drama with plenty of light moments and worth seeing for the brilliant cast.

SantanaBinLorry · 19/07/2023 09:55

Oh we LOVED Death in Paradise, it was the first thing we all watched together as a family! Kinda dropped of the radar and missed a few series, can maybe go back and watch the Ralph Little years :)

We tried Red Dwarf...but sadly it didn't catch with them :( Smeg 'eds!

Not heard of the Chosen or 911. Will check those out
Will suggest Only Murders and Office US
The eldest would probably like both Shamless's (sp!?) but maybe not yet for the youngest!

Also currently enjoying The Righteous Gemstones but might be too mature for 13 yo

PuttingDownRoots · 19/07/2023 09:59

There is also the Death in Paradise spin off Beyond Paradise but there is only one series so far

FFSCarrieBradshaw · 19/07/2023 10:05

If they like US comedy try Schitt's Creek or Kim's Convenience.

Both very funny, some excellent social stuff to get their teeth into, both on Netflix.

Rawrrawr1 · 19/07/2023 10:06

Kim's convenience, Ghosts US both very funny

FFSCarrieBradshaw · 19/07/2023 10:08

Oh, and Father Ted surely?

whataboutnow · 19/07/2023 10:08

My DCs loved the BBC series Hustle and Johnathan Creek . They were our go to tea time watch .

MarmiteRoll · 19/07/2023 10:11

Modern Family?

MoonsHaunted · 19/07/2023 10:14

Spaced

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/07/2023 10:16

Modern Family is excellent - the first 2 seasons is amongst the best comedy out there! Also Schitts Creek is amazing.

Another vote for The Office (US).

My teen ds and I watch it over and over - it's the new Friends for me 😆

Mingomang · 19/07/2023 10:26

Another vote for Modern Family!
New Girl

LadyDanburysHat · 19/07/2023 10:51

Agree with New Girl too, forgot about that. I also remembered all of my DC have loved Friday Night Dinner.

KT1995 · 19/07/2023 10:56

We are watching Poldark atm. Watch The Office (x 10 times!) Modern Family (best comedy ever) Derek and Extras (good but bit rude for 13 year old) Downton Abbey (x3)

CormoranStrikeIsBloodyLovely · 19/07/2023 11:06

My two are a bit younger than yours but they have loved Malcolm in the Middle. I did have to skip a few sex bits with Lois and Hal but you don’t see anything so your two should be fine.
I see Home improvement is on Disney+ so might watch that next but they want to rewatch the first season of Malcom in the Middle again next.

ILoveBostonTerriers · 19/07/2023 11:09

New Girl
Modern Family (watching this myself for the first time at the minute, surprised how much I'm enjoying it!)
The Middle
Buffy
Gilmore Girls
Virgin River

SantanaBinLorry · 19/07/2023 11:35

Ace, some great suggestions here thanks.

Of course we've done Modern Family, doh! I knew I'd forgotten some!
And Malcom has probably been around more times than the Simpsons.
Arrested Development went down well too. All Glorious T.V

I'm not sure they'd go for GG or New Girl.
Buffy was a non starter :( (It not aged well)

Father Ted, on the list.
With,
Schitts Creek
Office US
and others I'd not heard of thanks!

Kim's convenience was a huge hit here, deffo check it out.

Manifest is long and could be OK? S1 on Netflix, 2 and 3 on now and s4 back on Netflix.

YellowDots · 19/07/2023 16:43

Raising Hope on Disney

QuillBill · 19/07/2023 16:46

I'm on my sixth run through of Schitts Creek.

However...the first episode is bad. So you have to commit to what the first two back to back so you realise it's not terrible.

crumpet · 19/07/2023 16:51

Detectorists
Derry Girls
The Outlaws
